  1. I am starting to think you are right. Someone said about the collie eyes and I can really see it now, the intelligent look. But I think he has the ear carriage of a terrier - well, he hasn;t much control of his ears but they do look terrier when they're co-ordinated Lol.
  2. Awwww maaaaaan that's bad, still made me chuckle mind
  3. Nice one! Look of sheer determination
  4. Cheers lorry, the reason I chose a high energy dog is because I know I do more exercise than a lot of pet owners and most dogs that end up back at the home is because they don't get enough exercise. I'd love the idea of someone working him for me or even taking me and him along as I wouldn't have the first idea how to get permission. I'm off out with him soon to a place that is fab for bunnies and is where he had his 2 in the last couple of weeks. But is just public land which is ok to walk on. Maybe I should do a lot more research about lamping. I really don't want to give up on him but I hav
  5. I realised the importance of hand signals when my old girl went deaf. Wish I taught her from young though. You teach them so much without realising your doing it but her last few years would have been less fraught if she knew the signals well.
  6. Hi JT, what do you see in him that makes you say collie? Just curious because I can only recognise obvious breeds in lurchers and would love to know more. You're right about the eyes, they are a beautiful beige/sandy colour and yes he is intelligent. I think because of this he is highly understimulated. Inbetween now and if I decide to rehome him I will put everyones advice into action. Just crated him for chewing and he barked abit but soon settled. He is a VERY quick learner. Just not sure I'm enough for him. I think he needs to be a worker. He catches rabbits with his muzzle on ( have to mu
  7. I've always preferred bitches too, chose him cause my GSD bitch is more likely to feel challenged by a bitch. very true i also know i wouldnt be able to resist that face in a rescue centre What about this....bet ya could resist then lol
  8. My garden is too small but I would consider someone else walking him but it would have to be on a bike, his recall is good with me but I would worry about someone else letting him off too soon. Had a woman who done dog psychology offer help yesterday so will also call her. Cheers

  10. very contructive infomation off you that ... the person has a disability , you dont have a clue what it is or what this person has to deal with on a daily basis because it hasnt been mentioned , the dog maybe just to much for them , and maybe best within another home , and there trying to do there best by the dog . HH Thanks HH - I do have alot to deal with and take strong painkillers daily but still there is never a day where I don't walk my dogs, neither do I cheat and do a quick walk with a ball flinger. I know my dogs don't understand and they still have their needs regardless
  11. Hi Stevo, I've addressed the food thing. The food he is on now is called Harringtons and has 21% protein. The dogs home wanted me to keep him on large breed puppy food til he was 18 months although their behaviourist said otherwise. He continued chewing the sofa this morning while I was in the other room! I think it will be the first thing he goes for now. Thanks for the advice again... http://www.harringtonsdogfood.co.uk/
  12. WOW - can I just say a big thank you to everyone who has replied. It feels good to know so many people care. Reddog.....we've run him on the bike at my sisters and it went well. I need to get a bike for myself now....... might need a 3 wheeler though, not to steady Thanks again everyone!
  13. Thanks, yeah he is a real looker. Amazing how different they can be from how they come across in the rescue home.
  14. Great reply, thanks. I usually walk with my sisters dogs too so there is usually 5 of them running through brambles on the lookout for bunnies! Funny you should should say about the agility. I've been going once a week for about 4 weeks now just to get him used to being there because he can be really timid. My sister was going to start him on Monday. Maybe I ought to be more patient and yes, he is still a baby but I feel so stressed by his behaviour. I will consider rehoming him if it's to the right home. I think he would benefit from being a worker. Thanks again stevo Lola
  15. Thanks H, I quite often sit pulling them out anyway so may aswell continue
  16. He has been chopped as he came from the dogs home, he's around 12 months old. He has a few issues ie small dogs (a bit rough with them) and has chased cows so will need alot of work but he loves training and learning. Where are you? He has a high prey drive and I feel nothing is too big for him.
  17. Cheers mate. He does sleep in his crate but I've never shut him in. Wish I had today!
  18. Not sure, think he definitely has deerhound but is the colour of a wheaton. See what you think
  19. I have had trouble with Casper being what I assume to be dominant. I made my own bed....when I first got him he was a nervous wreck. I was too soft on him as I had no idea he would go the other way. Now I'm not sure if I can cope with him. I walk him 2 hours off lead a day and he still has energy spurts of boisterousness. I have a physical disability and really can't manage more than 2 hours. Today he wrecked my sofa.Grrrr! But, I take full responsibility for this as I didn't walk him before I went out. He toileted in the garden and my walks are usually around 2pm so I left them from 9am t
  20. Cheers bog, I'll start him off. I have a stripping stone which I'll try but do have stripping knives too. Not sure if I'm keeping him now though
  21. Can't offer much help but would love to see a photo! I would definitely recommend clicker training though.

  23. I've stripped a border terrier before and was really pleased with the result for a first attempt. Just wasn't sure whether it was beneficial for a lurcher. before
  24. I can vouch for the e-collar. A friend of mine has a dog whose recall was terrible. She could spend 2 hours trying to get her back. She started using the e-collar and now has no problem with her. A bit of advice though, make her wear the collar WITHOUT using it for a couple of weeks. You don't want her to associate the collar with the affect because she may well go back to being 'ignorant' when you get to the stage of not using it. Good luck
