  1. totaly agree with what your saying so how would that compare to the requirements of a lamping dog in your opinion I've never used a lurcher just for lamping because I do as much, if not more, day time work, but if I were to train a dog just for lamping I would still teach it field craft by day: ditches, fences etc: and I'd still get it picking up rabbits by day when the dog can see what it's doing, be aware of the dangers and obstacles. In fact, I don't know anyone who never lets their dog see a day time rabbit and only lamps it: the thought of running a green, non field wise dog on th

  3. never under estimate an older lurchers working ability yes the speed may be going but the brain will compensate a 7/8 years old lurcher aint going to be as on the ball as 3/4 year old lurcher top of his game...its a fact of life the older you get...the less capable you become and they age fast enough as it is not disputing what your saying but still

  6. how much training does a lurcher really need,im not big on to much of it for my dogs if im honest i mainly lamp so recall and retrieve have to be bang on other than that im not to fussed i aint after a dog to sit on its arse and give me its paw,ok if you use your lurcher for various other hunting methods then you can train accordingly, sit stay, broken to stock and ferrets whatever plenty things you can train for but for me most of it is not required the little they do need to know can be taught from a very early age fieldcraft on the other hand is about getting them out there amongst it they ar
  7. not a generalisation in any way as iv only seen a few working but in answer to your question, yes they can make very good all-rounders,lad i know ran a couple and both excelled on the lamp as well as daytime,ok the retrieve was a bit hit and miss with them but other than that they could run all night with good sound feet and were generally injury free, they both took fox single handed and made short work of them they seemed to hate fox with a passion ,all other game was caught regularly and i would class the pair of them good old pot-fillers

  9. Thought they were bottom feeders no i have caught many cats just under the surface like this mate of mine had a 17ib cat with a 20mm smokey mackeral boilie popped up 6foot off the bottom on a zig rig, they will regularly leave the bottom and come up to feed they seem to take quite a variety of baits offered on what are deemed mainly carp waters guessing they get used to feeding on whats going in,also seen them caught on couple grains plastic corn popped up a few inches with plenty of trout/halibut pellett over the top

  18. So you drive a lorry then mate....well heres 1 you'll love.... c**ts that drive about slow as f**k but speed up just enough on the straights so you cant pass, or make you loose your speed at hills............. I think all these idiots should be banned from the road....if your not confident then i'm sorry you are a danger to every other road user. I'd love to have a helicopter with a big magnet on it and fly about all day throwing idiot drivers into fields... bang on
