    And i thought it was only me that this had happend to my first dog pulled hard on the slip when we was 15 feet from the rabbit i was sure he seen it so sliped him the little c**t ran straight past then the rabbit ran towards me i tryed to kick the c**t and ended up on my arse never kicked a dog for not seeing a rabbit neither have i mate i meant the rabbit but trust me i was close that night last time i clipped a rabbit with my boot i limped for a week,if they get away now days they fecking deserve it

    i bought my first lurcher 20 odd years ago of a good freind she was excellent working bitch on bunny and long ears lamping so id got my first dog and was keen as mustard to get out and get my first bunnyor two on my own id seen this bitch on several outing take 20 plus on the lamp what a total disaater the very first slip ended the bitches life at only two years id slipped her on a rabbit which ran straight for cover and the bitch was right up its arse rabbit bolted from cover and on to road and a on coming taxi killed her not straight away police and vet came and vet put her down as her

    well not having a mentor you learn quick,sure you will do just fine,but in the case of it all going tits up you will be safe in the knowledge you aint the only one good luck with the pup

    It does have its uses imo especially for squatters though they can get used to running the dummy and they can tend to run half-hearted knowing its not going to run. never heard of anyone sickening a dog on a dummy ,but i have had the odd dog over the years that took for ever and an age to spot sitters,some just seem to get the hang of it instantly others you begin to wonder if the penny will ever drop,perhaps these would have been good candidates for lamped dummies

    doubled up on rabbits never again,in the early days i slipped my 11 month old bitch in behind my mates 7 year old dog, on his say so,they ran a bunny toward,then along a hedgerow,his big dog turned it back toward my bitch the collision of the dogs sounded like the crack of a whip,my bitch came back none the worse for wear we buried his dog that night.

    remember going out with your first ever lurcher on that first night to get it going on the lamp and hoping beyond all hope it catches and retrieves its first bunny right into the palm of your hand so you can do that crazy thing where you look at your dog like its the best thing that ever took a breathe . winds blowing like a good un rabbits on the stubble long way out,you pick your target walk it up hissing at the dog to let it know something is about to happen,dog keen ears pricked scanning the beam looking for the intended target,the particular bunny sits tight as you approach it may lift

    or am i just a dummy with a lamp keep noticing lately on here lads mentioning they train their dogs up by taking a dummy out with them throw it and lamp it up to get the dog looking down the beam and retrieving,is this becoming common practice now as i never really heard of it years back,retrieve training in the garden field whatever but not lamped up. do you think its a good idea where you can possibly iron out problems with your dog before entering for real,surely the way is to prepare the dog to the best of your ability,get it to the required standard of obedience and get out there

    well put it this way i aint managed to tire him out yet well i wouldn't worry about it then. some dogs just dont get big and cunkie. i have a bullx the same just dose not get big no matter what i feed her. all the best with it hope it works well for you it looks like a fine beast. il be honest think he looks better in the pics than he does in the flesh cheers if my memory serves me right he's a 3/4 grey 1/4 deerhound I think the breeding alone will tell you he ain't gonna be a heifer like most bull x pups lol I'm the same like chunky pups but you can only go with what you
