  1. Brilliant rifles-I had one for 6 years-it accounted for literally thousands of quarry. Needed a service once, when an internal seal failed. They get a bad press, people say they suffer from pellet jamming in the in-line magazine system. They have a pellet specific slip guage fitted. Mine was originally set up for accupels (which it loved-the rabbits did not!!). I changed the slip guage for JSB exacts (there was a shortage of accupels) and the rifle would achive sub 6mm groups, 20 shots, prone at 40 yds all day long. The bolt is the slickest on any air rifle-feels like a centre fire-stunnin
  2. A rare beast. It was designed to run best around 18-20 ft lbs muzzle energy. In sub 12 mode, it is ok, but will do no more than a HW90 or Theoben Fenman, which are more readliy available and just as/more accurate. If you get offered one for 250.00-bite their hand off. If expensive, think long and hard before you buy. Graham
  3. Hmm. There is a hell of alot of shooter input on the correct fill pressure in an s400. The optimum is 165. Why? The rifle is unregulated and so therfore has a very noticable "Power Curve" It reaches its sweet spot, ie: the part of ther fill where you will get 50-60 consistent shots from 160 down to 120. If you fill to 190, you will find that your zero point will rise as it approaches the sweey spot. Put simply: You fill the rifle to 190 You Zero the rifle at 35 yds As the pressures gets to 160 (ish), the power will increase by 20-30fps and you may wel see the pellet striking upt
  4. Could the pellet be cliiping the silencer on exit? How does the rifle group?
  5. Yes. For several reasons: Using a scope enhacer, your eye/scope position will be bang on, reducing the risk of parallax error (not looking directly down the centre of the scope) You will gain 15-20 minutes shooting in poor light / dusk conditions In wet conditions, it will reduce the amount of moisture fouling the eye piece
  6. You are talking about Primary and Secondary Zero points. It will depend on a number of factors: Secondary zero (ie: 25 yds / 35 yds and so on) Pellet weight Scope height above the barrel Pellet speed ...and of course, the calibre of the rifle. For what its worth, a .177 rifle, using JSB 8.4 grain pellets, with a scope set on 8-10 times magnification, zeroed in at 35 yds, should have a primary zero of 13 yds. Trial and error chaps. My .22 Air ranger zeroed at 30 yds has a primary zero of 10 yds. My advice to any hunter: always re-check your zero with at least half
  7. Another vote for the Hogan Decimeater here
  8. Fabilous shooting Mate The long crow was superb. What is the shoot-an industrial estate? Graham
  9. Hiya mate-not yet, but I have heard it is equally as efficient at silencing rimfire rifles
  10. Hi lads (and lasses ) just thought I would share my thoughts with my fellow hunters, on the new Decimeater silencer, designed by Jim Hogan of Logun fame. I spent the weekend working at the last Midland game fair (trade stand) and had the opportunity to test the new Ripley Elite PCP (which is bloody lovely), Jim demonstrated his new Decimeater silencer-WOW! All I can say, is that it knocks the Weihrauch silencer into a cocked hat! Even fitted to an FAC rated Elite, fired inside the trade stand without a pellet loaded, all i could hear was the hammer noise on the rifle. Later that day, I was wo
  11. Great post mate Sometimes, a massive haul is overshadowed by a good days hunting. Well done bud!
  12. After reading Zini's thread about his successful trip out, it reminded me of the rare occasions I have been able to take a "full house" on my main shoot. There may well be variations, but for me, the Mcnab consists of the following:- Rabbit Squirrel Wood pigeon Magpie All must be taken on one single hunting trip. The last time I managed this was back in May-I managed 7 rabbits, 3 Squizzers, 1 magpie and 1 Wood pigeon. I was as excited as a randy teenager who has just found his older brothers hidden porno stash The most diverse bag I ever had in one garden, was few years ago
  13. Nice write up mate. Most of my shoots are pure stalks-I have not got the patience for long static sessions. Well done on your fortitude! Lovely clean shots for the ranges too-right on the "Snooze Button" What rifle were you using? All the best, Graham
  14. Hiya Lamp-King-I can ask around-Have you approached local farmers / landowners? Be prepared for rejections-but keep plugging away and you will get lucky. Rascal (John Boy)-cheers mate.
  15. Hiya Mate-as above: I shot an informal Easter Sunday HFT (Hunter Field Target) competition at Bisley back in 2005 and top scored with 58 ex 60. For fun, I coached a couple of new shooters around the course in the afternoon and shot the course with My HW97K (fitted with a Venom stage 1 tuning kit-repalcement spring / spring guide and piston seal). Obviously there was no pressure on me as I had shot the course officially in the morning. I managed 59 ex 60 with the HW97K. Nough said.
  16. Very kind offer there Si. Actually I have a client in Leeds, so it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to stay overnight a bit further north! By the way, how did you get on withthe Verminator problem and the gun shop today? sib Hiya mate-where abouts in the South East are you based? If you need assistance in setting up your rifle, help with rangefinding, shooting techniques or help with hunting, drop me a line
  17. Nice shooting mate Weather has been diabolical here-after seeing your video, I am itching to get out and about again!
  18. Hi mate, I have had the pleasure of ownership of quite a few Venom'ed spring rifles over the years. When you cock the rifle, is the stroke still smooth, gentle and even or does the rifle feel "graunchy"? What is the recoil like? it should be a gentle, predictable, light bump into the shoulder. Is the rifle "dieseling" ie: a faint whiff of smoke/burnt oil upon firing. If it exibits none of the above negative symptoms and only the positive ones, leave well alone Where about are you, there are plenty of good lads at Airgun clubs around the UK who are fantastic spring rifle tuners.
  19. Thats completely normal. I had an Axor and the mags fell out like yours-quite handy for fast reloading mate.
  20. Hi all, i have been an avid reader of this site for a while now, I thought it was about time to introduce myself. My name is Graham and I live and work in Surrey (lucky me!). Fortunately I work in the great outdoors which brings me opportunities to hunt-my shoots include large private gardens, woodland and a few more sensitive sites-schools, business premises etc. I have been a keen hunter since my early teens, although I have been shooting airguns since I was a youngster. I became heavily involved with the target sport side of things about 5 years ago, which has improved my marksmanship, bu
