I was thinking more in terms of terrier work for the hunts but interesting to here what people think in paying for general permission. I personally think it would be a sad day when we end up paying for our sport but I have been digging for over 25 years and it has been hard work getting the trust of Farmers and Game keepers over the years bearing in mind most of our land is arable now with not much live stock. Most of our permission has been obtained through years of beating and ferreting where we needed to get to no the keepers before they would let us put a terrier in the ground. We all kno

Was talking with a close digging friend of mine recently and we got onto Hunts and hunting in general and he was of the opinion that a lot of the hunts even the bigger ones struggle financially and rely on donations to keep them going. The conversation then led onto terrier men and how their role has changed somewhat since the ban with no stopping being done whether the fulltime terrier man may become a thing of the past. It made me think would the situation ever arise, with permission for digging always hard to come by and with shooting Foxes seeming to be a more acceptable way of controlling

A friend of mine has one of Brians dogs and although he doesn’t work it regular it always accounts for itself when is brought out, in the best bred litters you always get failures I guess. With amount he breeds he’s bound to get more than most.

What is the smallest dog you have used????
wooly replied to Storm da bull's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Don’t worry about the size my old bitch was 10†to the shoulder but would stay forever she just didn’t have the size to finish the job but she never sustained any bad mauling’s she seemed to use her head more new her limitations I guess. -
Had a mornings ratting yesterday, it was on farm with a large corn store the rats had dug in to a grass bank along the back of the corn bins. We used the new Rat-Attack Smoker 2 which we purchased at the Midland. I had read a couple of poor reports on the forum so was fearing the worse but was presently surprised. Admittedly it was a calm day but once the coil has warmed up and you just gently fan the oil can trigger so not to push to much oil through at a time we found it proper belched out the smoke. We had 30 plus rats with four terriers by the end of the session. Having used a chain saw

Two months back I posted about an incident that happened while I was out one evening working some cover with my three terriers in the hope of maybe getting a run for my Lurcher. A guy appeared walking his two dogs one of which a Springer spaniel squared up to my Patterdale dog, before I could get to them they both set about each other my dog eventually locking onto the shoulder of the Springer. Which seemed like an age but was literally seconds and with no help from the owner I managed to get him to release. With loads of apologies from me we parted company. As it happened the guy lives in

A mate of mine sent me this by email today, what a great idea. What do you think? I received this email today and felt I needed to forward it on. I know I am a little emotional at the moment, but my step-son is currently at Catterick going through his army training and is scheduled to go with his new unit to Afghanistan in June once he passes out. I am so proud of him! If you are not interested, please ju[/color]st delete this... "Last week I was in West London attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning t

Out last night running the terriers through some thick cover hoping for a run with the lurcher when my Pat dog came across a neighbour of mine walking his spaniel off the lead. I got to about a yard from him before they set about each other my pat locked on too the spaniels shoulder, had a nightmare getting him to release but eventually got him off and with lots of apologies from me we parted company. This morning note through the door had to take the Spaniel to the vet emergency operation, tonight through the door £600 vet bill what a nightmare. I've been onto Countryside Alliance and I "sh

it fairly simple, fish antibiotics are not recomened for dogs, they act in a diffrent way, have diffrent dose rates and do not od the same job. If you care to check Fish Flex is Cephalexin, FishMox is Amoxicillin allmost allways prescribed for flesh wounds for dogs from your vets. I no our local beagle pack use and order their antibiotics from the states in exactly this way!
-
I've used the same from a different site from the states there the same as what you will get from your vet but lot cheaper a must when working the terriers most weekends. Can't believe there's people give you stick when you put up a usefull bit of info for everyone!

It’s not moaning quiet the opposite there’s some good stuff on this site and a lot of sensible good humoured banter but I’ve seen Field sports and Terrier work in particular destroyed by just such garbage and the wrong picture painted of terrier men and their work. We need all the support we can get and not allienate ourselves from the general public. Thanks for the constructive criticism!!!

Couldn’t agree more I logged on yesterday and thought I had got onto the BNP site, field sports get enough bad press without giving the anti’s more ammunition, this sort of talk is just right to convince Joe public that we’re a load of right wing racist loons we really are playing straight into there hands. The truth is what ever our political views maybe they are best kept off of “Hunting Forums†such as this and reserved for other political forums which I am sure there are many.

I have a Hancock first cross Beardie/Greyhound two years old. She stands 24†is fast and agile ideal for lamping. She will take hare at push and is just starting to take an interest in Fox. I can identify with some of the other comments she was fairly head strong as a pup apparently Beardies tend to be, but would go to pieces if you disciplined her too harshly. My lamping partner has a Bull Cross that will keep trying when all looks lost and will crash into the harshest cover which definitely does pay off a lot of a lot of the time, Collie crosses just won’t work like that. However she is v

Hi Don't worry Lensman I own a Pat and a young Plummer bitch there's good and bad in both there what you make them, but to some there's only one type iron hard and black thats fine if you want them laid up half the season. Keep posting but next time they need to be ripping the throat out of a fox just to keep the morons happy! I think they look fine dogs. Regards Wooly

I’ve been trying to post some pics but seem to be struggling it keeps coming up as file too big, has anyone got any ideas? Had a days ferreting yesterday fourteen rabbits in the bag all shot, nets and lurchers out the question unfortunately as the farm is a fortress of brambles. We had over rabbits from the same farm last season but this year we will be struggling to get half this number as most of the sets appeared unused. Did find what looked like a well used fox earth I’ll be checking it out with the terrier in the next couple of weeks I’ll let you know how we fair. I

Hi Just joined the forum thought i would introduce myself. I've been into field sports since before I left school. I shoot reguarly I currently own one Beardie Collie Lurcher, one patterdale dog, one plummer bitch terrier and four ferrets. I enjoy lamping reguarly with lurcher and rifle and ferreting. Terrier work is my real passion, I lost my patterdale bitch last year and decided to go for a plummer bitch to replace her she's not a year old yet so the jurys still out on her yet. My patterdale dog is five years old now and has nothing to prove I would not be without him for the world but
