Tried to do this about 6 months ago but made the mistake of using a plastic rod holder instead of metal. the result was the cradle snapped off within the first few hours of shooting. Converting the tripod as such I didn't do but I removed the existing shaft and "shoe" and with a bit of 22mm copper pipe and some expoy stuck the rod rest on top. It all seemed ok right up till it broke. No pictues sorry. Will i try it again, no. i,ve seen one with a thin metal plate on top with what looked like roachpole under and over rest tops fixed on top...i think they are solid but with a softer inside

my dogs the same..everything retrieved but a rabbit..retrieving training only this summer..he does catch a lot of rabbits though

I have a 2 year old collie greyhound dog that hasnt clicked on to the retrieving,he will bring anything back to me but a rabbit this summer i,m going to try everything ican to correct this ,but if he wont ,what.......He is quite a good dog,good out ferreting awsome on the lamp always catching more than his fair share compared to other dogs ive been out with,he runs hard,turns well and good to watch...for me when i first started out which was a fair while ago,it was all about the thrill of the chase and probably still is now...ive had dogs that retrieve and that was the icing on the cake but i
