  2. well i put my own splint on for now made from carboard and bandage just to give him support until he see's the greyhound vet. atb

  4. nice one mate, the only reason i havn't visited the greyhound vet yet is money, my last bits of money paid for his x ray and pain killers. im visiting the greyhound vet on tuesday when ive got abit of cash and hopefully get it sorted. where about in north notts are you based mate as that may well be an option for me. nice one for your help pal appreciate it
  5. if i was you mate i would put him into a crate if you have one, put him on the lead when you are letting him out to empty, did the vet put anything on the leg? no mate they didnt put nothing on it. he is put on lead everytime he goes out but i dont have a crate but he's pretty much in his bed all the time. cheers
  6. my dog started losing hair a while ago, it wasnt bad but it was becoming noticeable so i changed his diet to chappie dry food which is rich in omega 3 and 6, also gave him tinned fish twice a week and vegetables in every meal aswell. if its not her diet then it is probably flea or mite mate. hope she recovers soon pal
  7. well the vet said plenty of rest should do the trick, but im off to greyhound vet next tuesday would rather get advice of someone who fully understands a running dog. i must say i expected a splint aswell mate. atb
  8. http://www.caninesports.co.uk/ nice one pal but thats in Leicestershire im after the one in nottinghamshire at colwick though
  9. i looked alot of food up on internet and most of them are full of s**t. for example bakers complete and stuff like that is just like feed smarties and ice cream to kids. i found that chappie dry food is very good as its got a lot of omega 3 and 6 which has helped no end in the conditioning of my dog coat. i also heard heights farm puppy food is very good. atb
  10. has anyone got the greyhound vets number in nottingham?
  11. well said mate, our dogs work our heart out for us so its only fair we give them what they need in times like this. im revisiting the vets tomorrow and like i said before the next step after that will be a greyhound vet for peace of mind mostly mate.
  12. yes mate back on thursday, all the vets have done is give him pain killers and took an x-ray. how did your bitch recover pal?
  13. Maybe he can give him some herbal remedies.
  14. Thats the greyhound vet i was on about in my earlier post. My mates are very happy with what he did to there dogs. He knows his stuff and he'll tell you how it is. its the same guy who ampitated my cousins dogs toes. he will probably be my next step even if its for advice on it not treatment. i am concerned about him and would like a greyhound vet opinion for peace of mind mostly, all i wanna know is its not gunna effect his running or work ability. atb
  15. i think its his bone in between the hock joint and the hock or metatarus. i saw the hairline fracture and the vet said there are alot of ligaments around this area and none of his ligaments appear damaged. he only rests the tip of his toes on the floor and through my eyes it doesnt look very stable. like i said i am returning to the vets on thursday and hopefully get the answers i need. cheers skycat
  16. i have seen the x-ray what the vets did and all other bones in his leg were checked over and looked perfectly fine. but i totally agree about vets not knowing of the strain and pressure that the dogs bones go through, especially when there out in winter 4-5 times a week working. i am going to see what the vets say on thursday and if im not satisfied with there answer then the next step is a greyhound vet. hes been very settled and eating well. he isnt putting any weight on his back foot and when he tries his lower hock looks unstable. cheers for all advice will fill you in with vets say on thu
  17. good advice whippet99 i was think 8 - 12 weeks pure rest, then 4-8 weeks road walking and trotting next to the bike before i even think of running anything. as you say running dogs are prone to injuries and we run this risk every time we take them out. he is my first dog and i am very pleased with the outcome of him so its only fair to give him the rest he deserves. cheers
  18. he is nearly 4 mate and the dogs bin fit and healthy all his life which hopefully goes in his advantage. this is his first injury in the space of 4 years.
  19. i was doing a bit of fishing the other day and took dog with me. after a couple hours and very few fish i decided to give the dog a little walk round the woods. anyway hes marking this patch of hedge row nose down tail up in the air and next thing i see a long eared broke out the hedge into the field the other side with my mutt sharpe on its arse, they disappeared over the brow. a couple minutes later he returned holding his back leg up. i could see his leg wobbling all over the place and my first thought was its broke. after a long walk with the dog on my shoulders we went vets. they kept him

  21. we ended the season with a good morning on some permission today and must say it was a cracking morning and had some sport aswell. me and REW off here was joined by his dad and our uncle who enjoyed watching our dogs and ferrets working the burrows. We had 1 of the first set and the next set along provided us with 9 which was a big suprise as we only get 3 or 4 off this but over moon obviously and the next few sets gave us and dogs some good sport over the next few hours as we only dropped the odd purse net down as rabbits fancy there chances across the feilds on these sets. We ended the da
