It sounds easy riohog and that WAS my first preference until Colly, who owns both dogs, has no axe to grind and who knows what a good dog is threw that damned spanner in the works lol. Thanks for the input.

That's the one

Yes but there's plenty of well bred dogs that fail to reach what's expected of them. It's a choice between a very good dog which has proved itself or a youngster which promises to be even better.....promises can be broken.

To be honest I'm caught on the horns of a dilemma. Willow is in season and T has agreed to breed her. Now my first choice was going to be Collie's dog which is about 4 years old and has loads of 3' and 4's to his credit. He's bred out of the sister of Splodge mated to Del boy (Charlie x Dancer) but has been sold and will be going across the water in a couple of weeks, so the bitch coming in season just now seemed like Divine intervention. But when I spoke at length to Colly he reckons that a young nephew of that dog aged 13 months is shaping better than he was at the same age. It goes against

Pal of mine retired this dog at the end of last season. First cross, an excellent fox dog and he took a few hares when he was younger too.

She has the look of Smokey.....don't you think?

glad to see you're on my wavelength!!!! by the way, did you know bruce (brian) woodcock from cheshire, he won calendar cup with a dog called max, many moons ago? No Colonel, I heard of him but never met him.

That was my pal Colly. We met up in the George on the saturday night as usual after the do as he was over that weekend with some other lads. He told me he was staying the week to squeeze the juice out of what was left of legal hunting. I introduced him to Eddy who was running a day out on the following friday, which would have been the day before the ban came in and he invited Colly to come along. The two Colly had then were both top sized dogs from Willows litter. A black feathered dog called Bruce and a smooth buckskin called Bucko. It was his pure saluki that sired my Patch pup above.

Sorry Saluki bouy, I've just reread your other post. Eddies silver bitch was the Shaddow that was out of Dancer x Smokey. What way bred is that red bitch....the dam of your pup please?
-
Saluki bouy is that red bitch....the dam of your pup, called Shaddow? Do you know if she was from the first Dancer x Smokey litter or the second? She's a dead ringer for a bitch I got off the first litter.

Could have Roberto, the last time she was out in a public type do was the week before the ban with Jimmy and Tony on S.K. That was the end of her first season. Or the Moochers trophy if you were at that which was the day she embarrassed me by wriggling out of her collar between my legs and running past Del boy to kill his hare. Didn't change the result though as she had already been eliminated for losing her first and he killed his next to win the day. Willow then redeemed herself by taking on a long slip at a hare on the other side of some game crop. I had to lift her in the air to see it and

Genes determine not only the shape of life forms but their behavior too. So any type of behavior that enhances the genes carriers chances of survival AND reproduction will be selected for. Therefore traits such as altruism (expressed as love?) toward close family members (who carry most of the same genes) has been written into our chemistry millions of years before we developed the introspective brain that allows us to have this discussion. Consider the absolute selflessness of the honey bee or termite. Which code of ethics determines their behavior? It's neither scripture nor secular leg

Very true Catcher. All the religions of the world share the common tactic of telling us what to believe based on stories handed down from others, with not a shred of tangible evidence to back them up. Blind faith is surely the antithesis of logic and reason. Without freedom of thought we are not free.

Well researched and educated guy..........? Yes you could describe this ethologist, evolutionary biologist and former Oxford University professor as such. But the "straw man" argument that everything he says must be wrong because he doesn't address the "meaning of life" presupposes that there must be a meaning to life. Did you ever lift up a rock to observe the invertebrates scurrying beneath and wonder what the "meaning" was to their lives? As for there being no evidence for evolution........Dawkins recent masterpiece, The Greatest Show On Earth is packed with some very convincing evide

Excellent KDR, They're a credit to you.

Ok Lampinglurcher, perhaps if you could elucidate which questions you found his answers so inadequate to, we could chase up and elaborate upon...it would help us all to reach a deeper understanding of.....?

Don't intend to start shit but that is a k.c. bred wheaten. The coat is a dead give away. I would go as far as to say there is American blood in it! M. Holmes campaigned against this type of coat for years. Not that it would make a bit of difference from a working perspective. But the show types weren't selected for work anyway so it's irrelevant.

It's called Evolution matey. One day, many years ago, our ancestors were swimming in the sea. At first our physical adaptability propelled us forward to crawling on land, then living on land, then developing warm blood and hair. Finally when it was time for us to come out of the trees our mental adaptability took over and our brains grew to the task. In the grand scheme of things, in evolutionary terms, only a blink of an eye ago we were little furry rat-like critters. SOME of the feckers on this site still are j.d its amazes me that people belive, but thats there choise. when y

Yes Max and Kim would be littermates. Eddie C. had another bitch from the litter which was the same colour as your dog.

You mean the pup I have out of her which is a year old today? This is a head shot of her aged 8 months......thats Willow put back to a pure saluki. If you mean Willow at a year old, the original shot was her at 14 months and this next one is her about 18 months when she won best dog of the day at the whities with 11 out of 11 in 3 1/2 hours.

Milk is the natural food for baby mammals. When they're to young to eat anything else milk provides everything they need to grow bone, muscle, hair, skin and connective tissue. Once weaned they do eventually stop producing the enzyme required to digest lactose but lactose is only one of the ingredients in milk. A while back I remember reading about a study designed to find the most effective rehydration drink in relation to sports performance optomisation. They tested a number of well known energy drinks, fruit juices and plain water etc. and found that nothing worked any better than milk. S
