Don, I suspect you will have to get in touch with someone who re-loads their own Cartridges. I have used .410 Pistols in Hunt service and used standard Ammo for long barrelled Shotguns. Overkill in an Earth, but fine for doing a Bullock. As a .410 in Pistol form is not the 'norm', I suspect you will struggle to find any lighter Cartridges as standard issue. Gun Shop should know who is loading their own Ammo and may be able to get you together.

9 Rounds of Boxing in 3 major Fights, I bet a lot that travelled were pissed off! Earle and Katsidos were pretty impressive though, it's going to take a good Dancer and Boxer to beat that Aussie.

Hope some one can help me out. I have lost the instructions which came with my Bore Sighter. It is the 'Leupold Zero Point illuminated Boresighter' and cost much more than I would normally spend, but it seemed pretty good. I got the instructions wet and they perished a bit, now they are lost. Can anyone help either by telling me how to Zero with it, or put up instructions so I can copy and save. Cheers.

In an ideal World somebody would invent some sort of looonnnggg distance Tranquiliser Gun. Then the Shooters could have a go and then pass them on to MEEE........ Good result for your area and if some of these guys knew much about Foxes etc, they would know that a healthy small manageable population is far better for all, including the Foxes, than a high population. The only problem I have with Shooting, is that they seem to get Lamp shy far quicker when shot at and missed, than they do when run with a Dog and missed. Don't tell me fellas "we don't miss"!....

I can see where you are going with this moorman1. Who it was is between them and me. Wonder all you like mate....if you read the original Post I said that if it was bad I wouldn't say and if it was good I would only say if the owners agreed. As I said in the Pm I sent you about your mates Dog" if he is happy with what he has then I am glad". Also your Post isn't entirely correct AGAIN I said I had seen enough Plummers now thanks. I also did not say the offer still stands. Yes OK fair enough your mate offered to show me his 10.5 year old working, just a little too late for my convenience that

Please tell the full truth though 'moorman1'. Why did I decline?

I have always had trouble with Lamps, no matter how they are made. I have made my own before the commercially bought ones were popular and made for the job. The ones with about three miles of insulating Tape keeping it all together. These Lamps or more importantly the Ancillaries take some bashing and pulling about. In the back of the Land Rover under a Jacket, they get pulled out and strains the Wiring or Fuse connectors etc. I guess it is consumerism where if it goes it needs replacing so more money their way! What these guys don't realise is that it only takes a few bad nights out to chuck

OK Taffy we will agree to disagree, but certainly with no bad feeling bud. I have seen enough Wheatons 'work' to know a good one is worth its weight. Although I do not believe in having any Draw Dogs at a dig, as I can do what is needed most times. I get a bit 'passionate' when the subject turns to 'GAMENESS' as it is a very misunderstood word. We did get off the subject a little, as it really doesn't matter too much as these Dogs are being used over Greyhounds anyway and most of their gameness could be lost in the offspring. What guys need to think about is that because something says Bull G

I personally do not want to comment about the Trials, as I have never entered a Dog in them. I believe in talking from experiences I have had, that way you can actually discuss things with a little more passion. Gameness......what is Gameness, to some just going in a hole is Game. To others working thick cover with split Ears and black thorn digging in, is game. There will be countless discussions about Wheatons and not everybody will agree. That is Dogs for you. I personally think it doesn't take much gameness for a Dog weighing in excess of 40lb going in and drawing anything smaller than
-
Sometimes it depends on what you consider the word 'GAMENESS' to mean. I am sure your mate has had a Wheaton be the gamest Dog he has ever seen. One Swallow doesn't make a Summer though. There are levels of Gameness too, which can differ from person to person. I agree totally about the going in the dark thing and working in it's own environment. I am first and foremost a Terrier Fan. There isn't much better than seeing a little 14lb Dog go in for Hours and do the business, in the dark! I have seen a Dog pull when the Animal the other end has his Tongue hold, but he still pulled until it saw da

What most seem to forget is that Wheatons were NOT GAME! They just weren't aloud to make a noise and the ones which qualified didn't make a noise, simple as that. There are many accounts where they were put against Bulls and came up second best. Even in the Trials some Bulls would fail, because they do not always 'work' mute. I am bordering on having to have this post moderated, BUT the Trials cannot be compared to anything a Pitbull used to have to do. Wheaton in grab hold and draw, what are we talking time wise?...not much. Usually these Wheatons were not small either. Now we look at the Pi

I don't want to piss on anyones fire here, BUT one of the Dogs to trial and qualify in Eire was a Dog named 'Red Hand of Ulster' and he was an English Bull Terrier. He was used extensively over the so called 'pure' Wheatons back then. This would have been the 70's. If anyone has any Wheaton blood and you go back far enough you will see this Dog in the Ped somewhere. There were some purists back then, but a best to best phylosophy was how most looked at it when breeding. The only advantage a Wheaton cross has over a Bull cross is the Coat and they can be real 'linty' sometimes. I am assuming th

I am now going to talk about back in the Day, as obviously it is illegal to Hunt Foxes with Hounds. Every Terrierman has a Job to do on Hunt Days and it must be done when the Huntsman or Master wants it done. You must be able to put your Hands on a Dog that will touch nothing else in the Earths, should that be required. You must have a Dog that will sit and bay and not injur the Fox, if required. There are times when in a big place you want the Dog to get to grips with the Fox. There are even times when you need a Dog to go in and only stay a short while, if the Fox don't bolt so be it. A lot

A Friend has a Male for sale. He is white, about 18 Months old, 23 inches or so(guess) and will mature about 55lb fit. He came from 'Half Bull Greyhounds' as a 6 Week old Pup. Kept as a Pet and obedient. PM me for full details and breeding, was bred with 'work' in mind. This is not a Lurcher or Digging Terrier.

If you are asking for honest answers then the best ones are the type you make yourself. Go to a Chandlers and get stainless steel swivels and 'D' Shackles. Use the 'D' Shackles to join the Swivels and Chain together and get yourself two Nylon Collars, or the 'Strong Stuff' ones. The Hound type Couples, which a lot seem to buy, Piss me off! The long Links are too long and if there is a clump of Fern or a Sapling they will go either side of it!! The other disadvantage is that, with the Hound type they can still get to ground. It has happened to me, thankfully not all the way down. It is easy to

I keep and breed what I refer to as 'Fitchy Ferrets'. They are Polecat colour and nice and small. They can fit down Rat Holes easily and are well able to deal with Rabbits. They are bred down NOT STARVED. I have selectively bred and culled for the Ferrets I have. If they couldn't do what I wanted them to do then I wouldn't keep them! Each to their own. I have no problems with the ones I keep and breed. My Males are the size of a small Gill and easily capable of getting through a Net without knocking it down. I do not keep malnourished specimens and mine are all healthy and shiny Coated, BUT V

I hope the Mods and Admin will let this ad run. It isn't Hunting related, BUT is related to the way we all get together, chat and transfer information. Below are the technical details of the Boards and Cards I have. I will do a deal on all or singularly or whatever and ship Worldwide (at your cost). Less expensive than you will find anywhere, for brand new ones. PM me please if you are interested. Technical spec's of the Boards; S

Here's another question for you TUFFTY, or maybe just something to think about. You decide both Parents are good enough for you to breed from. You breed from them a couple times and get a couple nice Litters. Then you take the Parents out this one Day and they both Jib. You go out again and they do it again. Do you then kill the whole of the two Litters and give everyone who bought a Pup their money back? Breeding is one big gamble and the way you think would only suit Parents which have totally retired. Blood is where it is at TUFFTY, WHEN IT COMES TO BREEDING and just having a good worker wi
-
You get far higher percentages of good Dogs from Linebred and tightly bred proven lines than you do from an individual fabulous worker. That is where the big gamble is when breeding. It doesn't matter how good a Dog works TUFFTY. It matters how the WHOLE Family works and it has been proven time and time again that good workers have been bred from the type I am talking about without one or both the Parents having done anything. All four Grand Parents have and the Cousins, Aunties, Uncles, Nephews, Brothers, Sisters etc, etc have too. That is the difference TUFFTY and that is my point. The Dogs
-
You do not need to say TUFFTY I know who you are and what Dogs you had and who you got them from. If breeding good Dogs was as easy as putting two good Dogs together, after all these Years you would think someone has the secrets. Breeding and how to get what you want can be a whole Books worth of discussion and argueing. He could be fabulous but produce Lemons and a real tightly bred old Ladys Pet could produce World Beaters. Read what I wrote TUFFTY about the Linebred, tightly bred and proven Lines stuff. There is a big difference between a fabulous loosely bred Dog and a tightly linebred dog
-
OK if you do truly believe that, why did you breed yours when they have done very, very little work?
-
To be 100% honest, if the Dog is from linebred stuff and fairly tightly bred and from proven lines (as the pickaxe stuff seems to be) he will throw what he will throw. Nothing to do with how he himself works, it is 100% to do with Genetics. That is a whole other subject though. Out six Days a Week 'WW', you have a few more Terriers you don't want to show? I bet, if you only have five, there are times you are crying out for a spare Dog........ That Choc Dog is a strong type, but I prefer those two black Lakelands. I bet the Choc Dog doesn't go Cubbing........

Always nice if they get the first one with little if any damage and it only takes one hole to do it.
