  1. Bumping this up and willing to haggle on price. This Treadmill is the Dog Boll*x
  2. I was wondering whether anyone uses 'Squirrel Chaps' and if they are worth using? Anybody got any thoughts on their necessity and usefulness?
  3. I don't have any pictures mate, but the one posted can be used to explain it. The Bullet Jesses are permanently attached to the Leash by a Swivel. The end of of each Jesse has a hollow aluminium piece of tubing, the Cord is then fed through the tube which is then crimped to hold the Cord in place. The 'Bullets' (aluminium tubing) are fed through the eyelets of the Anklets, once through they find their natural position and hold the Cord onto the Anklet, as the Picture shows with them attached to the Glove. They are perfect if you fly your Birds without any Jesses, as it just takes a second or t
  4. Meant to say it is meant to comfortably take a Human up to 20 Stone, according to manufacturers details. It is big enough to walk a Terrier on a Lead with the person walking behind! Saves prying Eyes during the Season and easier to work out some sort of work schedule pre-season.

    Put them away

Got my first Feathers off my two HH's the other day. I have decided not to fly them any more at all. Was going to fly them through, but would rather get them through the first moult with no hassle. I weighed them the other day too, when I collected the Feathers. My female was 3lb 13/4oz and my male was 1lb 111/2oz. The Male has put on 61/2oz and the female 123/4oz and neither feel fat. I am beginning to wonder if I had my female too light at 2lb5oz, although she was responding well and hunting well too. I never actually fattened her until she totally ignored me, always too nervous to do it. M

    Moult

If Birds are 'put away' for the Moult do they suffer with fading Muscles etc? What sort of things do you guys do to prevent it and keep a reasonable level of fitness? I will be trying to fly my female through, but my male is 'put away' now.

    a must see

What Bird is that in the Clip and any guesses how heavy it is?...........excuse my ignorence
  8. I have registered with the Forums Site, but unable to log on. It says I have registered and welcomes me, then when I click on a topic it says I am unable to. Any ideas what to do or who to contact?
  9. Where I am known to loiter they have 40 Days of shooting and not uncommon to go for 350-400 Bird Days, maybe shooting 3 times a Week. He is not always keen to let on how many are put down, but that is on around 3,000 Acres of the Estate. Each Bird is worth £35 plus VAT and when dead maybe 50p..........strange how the Housewife hasn't 'switched on' to proper organic Meat, by getting Pheasant and Partridge from their local Shoots!!

    cadge i made

My main criticism is that the Birds can still shit everywhere (almost) and I like the 'protection' of a Box.
  11. I want to get hold of some DVD's or Videos reference training Spaniels for shooting, etc. I have seen some around the £30 mark! A little more than I would like to pay, so am asking here if anyone has any they would be prepared to let me borrow, buy, originals or copies? I am keen to see how they are trained to a good Field Trial standard.
  12. Every Pup I have comes into the House for a Month or two BEFORE going into a Kennel. When it comes to introducing them to Kennels I do it by putting them in for an hour or two a day during daylight hours, increasing as time goes and eventually bringing them into the House very last thing at night before my bedtime. As they get better and more accustomed I leave them overnight. In time they become fully Kennel trained, usually within two Weeks or so(invest in a water Pistol..... ). You get a well socialised Puppy and able to live in or out....my experience anyway.
  13. My suggestion is try him with a few and see how he reacts, you will be able to see it easily enough. It is the more expensive route at usually around £6 each, but better to know for sure which he responds to best. There are times where you may forget or lose your Whistle, so train him to your own personal Whistle using your Mouth too.
  14. I bought my Birds towards the end of the Season really and they are not as advanced as I would like. My male has not been able to catch of his own doing, without some help from me and the female has done well but numbers are a little low compared to what some guys have caught. I am thinking of flying them through the Spring and early Summer. I have plenty of permission and a lot want the Rabbits eradicated, leaving for next season is not an option. What do most of you think about flying the Birds through the Moult, mostly on the Lamp, but none the less during the Moult.

tut, tut, tut........now now 'Moorman1', wondered how long it would be!.....lol.

    Once catching?

Cheers for replies. I am not bothered about having any Rabbits really. The Sport is enough for me, but I don't want to go out and have one kill too many times. Nice to make a day of it!!....lmao. The female does know how to catch well, going straight to the front after initial contact. The male is a bit slower and hasn't actually caught anything yet. They have done everything to get away from him, which has been frustrating for both of us! I will be 'engineering' a couple of positive outcomes this weekend, as I don't want him losing heart. I also admit to spending more time on my female, who i

    Blackbird vs Spar

I was out shooting the other day and down through the Woods came a little figure, with something hanging from it. As it got closer I saw it was a Sparrow Hawk carrying a live Blackbird! She flew down right in front of us the length of a Stream, around 100 yards and then disappeared, the Blackbird was screaming all the way, sent shivers down my Back. Often see wild Gos's chasing Partridge and Pheasant too, while out beating on the same place. The Keeper said he caught two young Goshawks last Year in the Pigeon Trap, fat and full of already trapped Pigeon!!

How many Rabbits would you allow your Bird to 'Crop up' on, once she is catching ok? Mine has had 3 now, she has gorged on all 3. Just wanted to know when I can have one??.....lol.

    Female and Cat!!

Cheers for the advice Bullet, but I have everything I need here with me........if I need it. I gave her a Virkon Foot Bath when we got Home and THOROUGHLY checked her over, Better than a Vet will too!! If I notice anything I will give her a Jab and put her on a course of Amoxicillin, which works ok with Birds. I checked this morning and nothing obvious, the scratches didn't swell. She kept herself fairly safe and had the Head and Neck, I would have to say I was impressed. I understand the concern though fellas, thanks.
  23. I went out with my female Harris this morning. I never fed or flew them yesterday, they gorged the day before on a Rabbit. This morning she was 2lb 2oz and keen as mustard. I had her on the Scales while getting ready myself, anyway she decided to try to fly out the closed Glazed Door. She realised just in time it was shut and only hit it at less than half force and slid down it. I panicked during all this and tried to stop her, while this was going on the Dogs had been asleep. The oldest one woke up and lifted her Head, my female nailed her on the Ear and side of Head. I managed to pull one fo
