  1. I know its an old thread but i'm just getting to grips with this photo larc,so hers a few pics. The three bitches are mother and daughters, out of different litters, all entered fairly early and all are true. The big dog is no longer with us,never took a step backwards,as honest as you could hope for. Mother and daughter from the previous post, daughter looking on,i think this might have been her first "look see" at her enemy.
  2. The more you look at what goes on around the world the more i realise what a down trodden existence i have in this country, good job we have a sense of humour What sort of pup are you after mate?
  3. I know a bloke with one, seems to do everything he wants.
  4. Well said minion, its all down to maturity. To berate a man for doing what he liked, how he liked just smacks of hypocrisy to me,maybe i'm wrong I couldn't give a shit what any body thought of me,here or any where else.i'll do my own bit in my own way and if you dont like it ..go f**k yourselves. Does it really matter what the bloke did or didn't do ? Does it really matter if he sold a book or two ? Some real good friends of mine despise the man and to be honest i cant find a valid reason why. I saw him at Bramham Moor terrier show a few years ago and people were
  5. I had one, sold it and wish i'd not. Good for anything you want,no frills and as rugged as you like. Only thing i found fault with is mine sometimes didn't always break open completely but you cant go wrong for a few quid.
  6. Strong looking bugger though,i bet he don't take many prisoners
  7. Best way to describe what i mean is in general conformation, they look to be in proportion alright but are perhaps on the small side. Not light boned, not stumpy little things, not dwarfes or minature or anything like that. I only keep two terriers,a Border bitch, she's about 12" at the shoulder and a black bitch, she's about 13" at the shoulder. Now the honest part, the border who is 8 year old now, will never mix it at all with her quarry although she has been dug to all her working life. She is seldom right up close to her Quarry, most times about 2 foot off,out of harms way and truth be kn
  8. If your happy with the size of your dog and it does what you want then nothing else should really matter. I like the smaller type of terrier, just my preference, but i know a lot of folk don't,thats up to them. There could be a lot of disagreement here but in my experience, generally the smaller terrier can get where it needs to a bit quicker and if needs to can follow it's quarry better underground. If its too small then it could perhaps have problems either holding its quarry there or bottling it up. Like every one else has said though,if it is determined enough to get wher
  9. I sympathise with you mate,i've had a few terriers like that and they never seemed to learn. I gave up chasing them though, unless i was going to give a good bollocking, as somebody once told me they think the chase is a game. Maybe its just in the make up of the dog, some like to be up front and some like to stick to your heel,i dont know. What i do know is how frustrating it is waiting for it to come back. Like Millet says, keep it on a lead,at least 'til it knows the score, Good luck
  10. the hardest dog we have in the kennel curls up and goes to sleep when another dog is working and shows no interest untill he is let of the ead and collered up ... then whetever is below ground is in for a world of hurt :11: :11: :11: ... so just because its screaming at the entrance of a dig it doesnt mean its ready to go .... to many people dont know how to read a dog and get the best out of it ... thats why so many people fail with their dogs ............ I agree with you totally shag, but i'm on about when a terrier is ready to enter on its own as thats what the topic is about.Ive an
  11. Waiting too long would be frustrating for the dog and owner wouldn't it ? Its all guess work at the end of the day,if your dog is doing somersaults on its tether at an earth it would seem fairly obvious to me it wants to have a go itself. On the other hand if you have a dog that shows very little interest when sat at an earth what do you do then ? Keep taking it out until that day when it decides" alright i'll have a little look, but if i dont like it i'm coming straight out and you can take me home" Only the owner can decide the right time, and IMO how it is e
  12. A queer looking dog witha huge COCK by the looks of that one
  13. Johnson field sports might export to you www.fiedsports.co.uk I got some years ago and still as good today.
  14. Total respect to a bloke who looks after his Bogs What do you recommend with the coming drought,a short flush every time or a communal dump ? Just curious thats all
  15. Have you noticed nobody has a dog that has chased rabbits My young bitch was a t**t for it in her youth and yes i had to recover her from ground,(no she wasnt baying) All the bollockings fell on deaf ears until i took the advice of a keeper i know, Basicly the bitch was attacked by a Were Rabbit until the rabbit was mush. She is a good young worker and has been true to fox all her life, never given an inch and is now stock broken to rabbits.......i hope, other wise i will follow the other advice and my own instinct at the time. I suppose it could be put down to frustration on
  16. Well shame on you Stan ! Fancy putting a topic on this forum and not expecting to be judged by some body or other. I mean how daft, asking a civil question.....get with it A few pointers, 1, Pretend to be the wisest man on Earth 2, Tell everyone your dogs arent the best in the world but everyone else's are shit 3,Say you are the most handsome, intelligent ,witty man on the planet 4,Believe all of the above Not to hard is it ! NOW, back to the computer and come up with a fool proof topic,Plummer terriers is a good one. You'll have everybo
  17. Well mate if i was at an undigable spot i would think long and hard before i put my dogs in. What sort of dog to use would depend on the quarry species, In my opinion in those sort of places a sensible dog is the only choice,a bayer, no more. If you cant dig it you have to rely on the dog either killing the quarry and coming out, or bolting it. If the quarry cant be killed, and won't bolt you have a long wait on your hands while a hard dog either gets killed or mauled half to death. The problem with sensible dogs (or jibbers as some people call them) is that you on
  18. If i remember right a bloke called Jimmy Thompson ( sorry if i got the name wrong),appeared on the F&MWTC video with some, Dont know the man or if he still keeps them but somebody up the North East will i'm sure
  19. As me dear departed granny would say "f**k me Riley" never seen so many rats in one place
  20. IMO, your absolutely right, it would be surprising to find a vixen to ground with cubs that size. She could have been anywhere, but you can be pretty sure that she would have been back some time,if she wasnt already dead. The only cubs i've come across this year have been left to the keepers to sort out,my job has been only to find them. But if you are asked to sort them what do you do ? Refuse !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont think so if you value your permission, some keepers i know will have you dig up half the county to get cubs and we all know how awkward a job it can be
  21. Spot on Cumbrian Jack, years back i had a Border dog and for some reason listened to the idle sods who clipper their dogs, BIG MISTAKE His coat went to rat sh*t,offered no protection at all and come the next spring/summer he was at the vets for the first time in his life, covered in sores bites rashes ,you name it. Had to have anti biotics and protein jabs to bring him round but was never the same again. A blokes spaniel i know went the same way,we put it down to briars, thornes and insects in the end but like i say,the dog never fully recovered t
  22. Hello mate, First off go to a gun/hunting type outlet in the area you want to hunt.If they like the look of you they might put you on to somebody in your area. Stay on the right side of the law,be nice to everyone you meet and be aware that hunting will end in the death of some animal or other. You will have to do all the chasing, so dont expect to just be invited here there and everywhere and dont go on anyone else's permission..........bad news travels faster than good ! Keep an open mind and listen,2 ears, 1 mouth Good luck sha
  23. Jack, Get yourself EDRD, get in touch with the man himself, Dave Harcombe and you will find your book. You will also find out what a fine, honest bloke he is too.
  24. Strip the anlmal,it will take longer but the coat should grow back harder and tighter.
