Bonny snaps there, I do like to see the hawks fly. Watched the hawkers last week as one bashed into a dry stone wall and nailed the rabbit just trying to get through it. The hawk would not let go even though its feet were in the wall clamped on to the rabbit! Thats a commited animal. (no hawks were damaged by the way!)

He can't take dogs on there Whin unfortunateley. (Don't know why, they wouldn't do anything any harm anyhow.)

She is in season, the male is trying to mate her. Split the males up into a cage each, and the females should be ok together in one cage.

my crappy little digital camera is on charging and we are going up on thursday, not sure if we are ferreting yet or just walking about to get to know the land. we can have a look round all three properly but i think it might be worth taking the ferrets and the nets,if we stumble across some easy sets we can give them a go.at least its showing were willing and we can also get sorted out about the dog situation if your travelling 70 miles better go armed to the teeth Makes sense to be honest.

If you have the land to take parties to ferret, and get good results then I think it could be done. Parties of hawkers pay a decent buck to go out hawking, Lads down our way will think nothing of paying a farmer to go rabbiting for the day. If people can get some advice from an experienced head, bring there own animals to try, and then get shown the right way of doing things, as long as it is not a fortune it could work. (Whin have you any places left? People tell me I'm doing it wrong. They say I dig too much!)

I wish they were big bags! 20 ish is just ok, would like to be in the 30's everytime to be honest, thats a decent average. The bigger bags are when you start hitting the 60 plus with one team. Not been there this year, 56 is the best.

No mate, only about 12 digs today. Hard to get a % on that old dog, when you breed lurcher to lurcher so many times you cannot tell whats been put into him. I know of at least 3 generations on our side, all collie greys, then put over other lurcher bitches. Most have been collie grey, but I suppose somewhere, other blood could be in there. Looking at him at a guess i'd say probs quarter collie, but who can tell.

After being stuck in all week, looking at this site, bored out of my head, I called the old chap and asked him if he wanted to go out today. He jumped at the chance, he had been stuck in watching Judge Judy and Jeremy kyle all week as his traps were froze in the ground. He asked me where I wanted to go, so gave him the options, High ground/Low ground. (The high ground is more action with the dog running a bit / The low ground is steady with mainly ferreting.) I was brought up with the saying 'The only good cat is a dead cat' (old man kept birds in aviarys in the garden.) Not seen anything to contradict this comment yet. They can hold there own no matter what people say, and if a cats mind was properly on the job, a ferret would probs end up on the wrong side of a hiding. (luckily most are scared of pain.)

Thats the only thing that annoys me about setting nets sometimes! The animals do the job! (If you didn't set em though sure enough 4 would bolt at once!) Right time for some kip, off to do the job tommorow, not just look at a pc screen all day and wish i was out there rabbiting instead of applying for jobs! Will post the day up tommorow.

One of the blokes that used to come with us us years ago had an old bitch looked just like that, she didn't have the speed, but she made up for it marking and picking off the seat. A class act. Just seen the piccies, cheers Tomo.

Nice piccie Tomo, have you anymore of the dog you have there? I'm sure i've seen it in one of your old posts, but never had a good look at it yet. Looks like one of the dogs you would take anywhere, upstaging the speedy younger dogs!

Think it's probably more to do whether the rabbits are bolting or not Whin to be honest. The jill i have coming on now, is lasting all day on her own, only after a few days out. She's not tiny, but i'm sure its cause she only engages with the rabbits that don't try to bolt, rather than every rabbit like the hobs do. The hobs, when fit will see a day out (2 of them in a day) but i feel they use up the energy stopping any rabbit they get close to.
