  1. Due to the Solway post it got me thinking about the Clyde estuary. Does anyone go fowling there, or did they in the past? Are there any wardens or reserves to speak to? What about wildfowling clubs?
  2. Ah well may put trip off for a while then. Anybody got any suggestions within a couple of hours of Kilmarnock? There is a river going into the forth just east of grangemouth. If you can work out access, it can have great duck flighting. Also, what about the Clyde area, surely there is still wildfowling to be had there somewhere? T
  3. good for you dude shot my first pink on munlochy bay, 40 years ago with a 44'' barrelled 4 bore! lay on my side out on the bay for ages! worth it though Well done my friend, get the cranberries out the freezer! Yum
  4. The proof mark is a "Fluer de Lys", or in laymans terms, like a World Scouting badge. The gun should be proofed to at least 1370bar, and at this point I am not so sure of the details as it could be proofed to 1370bar but not have the steel shot proof symbol, again read the BASC handout which is taken from the CIP regs, which due to their (the CIP that is) is not released in english, only french!
  5. And is the mussell bed area safe, and decoys useable?
  6. Was that over decoys. Each to there own but if you took 17 pinks in one flight, I think that is a little too unsustainable mate, unless you are talking about a team of guns. Make sure you dont do the same to greys unless you KNOW they are ferals. The migratory greys are not doing too well at the moment. 1 Grey per flight per gun for the migrants.
  7. Thanks for this, it should be getting darl on low tide so we will aim for the river, any clues on where. Bird ID my speciality! We may stick on that point for the moon flight as the water will be high! Thanks again, great advice
  8. Not sure I get you, but if you mean, do I constantly have wildfowling fever?........... yip
  9. Nice vid, well done on the goose, was it a pinkie?
  10. Ladies and Gentleman I have a trip planned to the Eden Estuary on the 14th Nov (11 days to go and counting). I have never visited it before so I am planning to arrive around lunchtime on the 14th to check things out. High tide at 3pm...ish Have been told that there may be a flighting opportunity of Greylags from the papermill, but not sure where to layout to catch these. Ideally we want to target duck so ideas for that would be helpful. There is a full moon, so presuming the conditions are right, we are going to hunt that too. Any thoughts? Then the following morning? All wea
  11. Hi There I prefer acrylic duck calls, they are so easy to use and clean. Buck Gardiner and HS have a great range and I use several of them, my favourites are the BG tall timber (I or II single reed) which when tuned is a great grunt, cluck and feeding call, and the BG Double Nasty (double reed) which has the widest vocabularly. All this said, when out on the forshore, it is the 6in1 whistles that really come in handy for wigeon and teal, with the tall timber grunts a great wigeon enticer as they swing to the deeks. I know little about goose calls, my mates seem to cover those base
  12. Matty Deker has a good point, what he is trying to tell you is that you should try to join a club, probably with a parent or gaurdian that your parents/gaurdians know well enough. Perhaps a rifle club or a sporting club near where you live. You are still within the age limits of the BASC young shots programme, I suggest you start there by contacting the BASC regional office that suits you. Start on www.basc.org.uk Also try the British Deer Society..... and...... never say you want to get into stalking because you want to kill deer, only that you are interested in hunting and stalki
  13. Ladies There are about 10 days until any info that is in this poll is required. I will use these results, if there are enough of them, to try and encourage BASC/CLA to hold their own online bag and ring recovery records submission programme for birds shot or observed outside "club" areas. And, in the long run, to try and get industry involved to sponsor a bag records programme! Again, if you shoot wild birds (not pheasant/partridge etc etc), all I want to do is know what would make you "more" comfortable in submitting an annual bag record and to whom you would rather submit it to
  14. Decker, these are difficult questions to answer, and if you find the debate stressful I am more than willing to sacrafice time that I could be spend painting the kichen and stand in for you on the day, however, if you do decide to take the cross on your own back then I would take either of your Beretta o/u's, whichever has the highest proof (i.e. is either magnum proofed). For a bag that size I imagine each gun may use about 20-30 carts ,max, assuming 6 guns. So buy 2 boxes of Hevishot duck or or hevishot classic doubles, that gives you 20 carts, and take along a box of standard steel 4's

Hi Selvey and Gooseman I am planning a bit of road trip on the 14/15th. I'll make a separate post for it soon. Myself and a friend are starting on the Eden estuary on the Friday afternoon and the plan was to hunt the evening, moon and then the morning flight before moving to the Tay for the afternoon and evening on the Saturday. My thoughts were, Cairnie pier area from 12pm-3pm to try and bag some duck, perhaps Goldeneyes, then pack up and get somwhere where we could flight a goose. Never visited the Tay before so may need some help on access and places to stand etc etc. Also any da

  19. Well its what you do with them that counts I suppose, but I would like to see Gamebore do better Well done the pintails! Yet to meet them on a flight. your welcome to come down here and have a flight in morecambe bay with us plenty of pins about and the nxt couple of wks will start to show alot more I'll take you up on that. I'll PM you in the nest couple of days!

  21. Gamebore steel is too slow (1300fps), why make such a good range of shells in the US teamed with KENTgb and produce such a poor quality steel load here. More likely to break bones than kill
  22. perfect, as long as they are not decoying in too close. If they are close and you are getting a good shot pattern on them, use a lighter load like a 30gm of 4's or 5's. But they are a diver so you need a decent cartridge to hit them hard. And if it is as Wag suspects, fast flighting at sunset, the Buffalo's will charge them down:D . I used to use Buffalo 4's on the foreshore before the no-tox laws, great ammo
  23. Scotland: Inland duck and goose where lead permitted - Anything in 32grm+ 5's, Favourite probably Lyalvale Super Game or Victory's Victory-felt 5's Inland Goose: Victory Minimag 40gm 3's All foreshore: 3" Express 36grm Steel 3's 1410fps or Eley Bismuth 34grm 4's for duck Goose: Have been using 3" Hevishot 3's until this season when I switched to Remington 3.5" Sportsman(1550fps)/Nitro (1425fps) in 39grm 2's as good grey goose and large duck load at reasonable cost. Come on Hull and Lyalvale, bring out some fast home grown steel goose cartridges that are not £1 each! Gamebore, incre
