HI Wag Agreed with all your comments, but unfortunately club grounds only cover a very small fraction of the number of wild birds shot and it certainly does not cover inland geese or the vast majority of inland flightponds, for example. And this structure is very bias to Norther Europe, with the fennoscadanavian countries and holland having excellent records, the UK having some marginal data and the central and southern countries having poor or no data. We all share the same wildfowl populations at different points in the season and therefore it would be ideal to know who is shooting what -
Hi Everyone, I dont know if this poll will work as I have never tried one before, but if it does please take a look I am looking into doing some research about sustainable hunting across Europe over the next few years. As a hunter myself, making sure that there are viable populations to harvest for future generations is important to me. Hi outdoors kid Get there before they do. Keep hidden and still within 30yrds of their landing areas. Use decoys if you can, if they have been feeding there you probably wont need calls. You cannot shoot at geese with lead shot. you must use non-toxics. Your gun is a 12g, but is it magnum proofed. If so then you may be able to use a better quality non-toxic shell. My recommendations to you depend on the range you can make your shots at. If you can shoot them up to 30yds then you can probably use a good quality steel shot cartridge, try lyalvale express, hull or remington in 2's

Hi everyone I suspect the answer will be "try john forsey", but I dont live near london and I cant afford or justify buying in enough bulk to make an order from JF worth my while. I have switched to steel for fowling, quite happy as long as my carts fire 1400+ fps. Despite many concerns, as long as you stick to some simple rules I have had no losses. Cripples have been a big problem in finding the right brand. I am now very happy with Hull or Express 3" 3's for ducks, kill kill kill, but these are pants on geese. All that I can get to work for pass/flight shooting geese is Hevishot

Mark, good news, they are heading south. Nice goldeneye hunting piccies, I'l a big goldeneye fan decoying fan. I have only hunted them on the Ythan in late season so if you have any other tips on places to go.........................? Best Tom

Hi all Not a grey area at all, its quite simple, if you think your shot will land on permanent wetland (ditch, burn, marsh, estuary), then you cant use lead shot. Technically you can stand at the edge of the saltmarsh/estuary and fire landward at your quarry and be within the law. However, in managed wildfowling permit zones there is additional rules that come with rights of access for shooting, one of these is often that you do not even carry lead shot. V-Max, careful with admittance of a 6-shot auto on waterfowl, that aint legal unless you have a restrictor tube insert to limit you to two shells in the magazine

heard about it today not far from me if the fckng idiots didnt know what they were shooting they should never have pulled the trigger. if they did know they should have made sure they werent caught :whistle: even the sillouette of a barnacle is a lot different from a pinkfoot. anyway im not far from the loch of strathbeg i think i saw our first skeins about two weeks ago .a couple of the local goose guides i go ferreting for say the numbers on the loch are looking good and posotive for the season. by fck nothing beats out mooching at some ungodly hour and seeing the geese fly over

Morning all A new member here. My heart is in NE Scotland but I live and work in Yorkshire. My hobbies and job are all based in the countryside, either by theory or practice. I'm a a big BASC supporter and my main prey are estuarine ducks. Suffice to say being landlocked in the west of West Yorks brings me out in a fever this time of year. I like combining travelling and wildfowling, visiting new places and meeting new faces. I also love walked up shoots and bunny stalking. I like to see the science and sustainability in hunting and could talk about either for hours! Married for 5
