Excellent phrase, I was just thinkg about flooded earths and my experience of them, an area where my brother and I work terriers in beside a large lough in NI. We come across this flooded earths a bit there and also on the mosses where we dig too. So far this year we have noticed more flooded earths, or at least with a drop of water in them. What does anyone else think? My brother has more experience of these earths and when I spoke to him on the phone before said, he trys to keep pups and first season dogs out of these types of earths as they can put them off. What he did say he was go

I wouldn't get disheartened, that second set sounds a really bad one for a pups second look. In fact a lot of terriers wouldn't fancy that situation so bear that in mind, is that black dog the pup? How old is the pup and has he been out before?

I used to love the old shooting news, phil lloyd, colin haynes daergi, that geordie fella with ferrets les white was it. And the plummer stuff was interesting to a niave 12 year old then. My favourite for readingwas daergi followed by phil lloyd who was a bit mad at times I agree it is crap now Celt

My best lurchers have had Irish terrier blood, very good for my pastime of fox bashing, never had a 3/4 bred though usually 1st crosses or linebred 1st crosses . Current dog is bull grey / irish terrier grey, he is excellent and we currently have 2 bitch pups by him out of a bul grey which our kid is bringing on. Only breed if you have homes for them celt

Agree with you on Johnny Cash, One and I hung my head two great songs. Into all sorts, like the kaiser chiefs, the rifles, the feeling and maximo park at the minute. Kaiser chiefs and frans ferdinand at reading festival have been great. Exploited and Slf are hard to beat too

Collie Terrier crosses are a favourite of mine, we had a pair of accidental breeding at my dads house (only one left). An old type farm collie mated a nice little working russel the farmer had and we somehow ended up with 2 pups about 10 years ago. They were hunted as much as our terriers, and good ratters, rabbiters but were best flushing foxes in whin bushes. The best one went missing a few months ago and we have not found him. His brother still here and a bit doddery but certainly made a good general hunting dog. Good luck with the pup Celt

Can only agree, i have an aeight stone doberman as well as terriers, they have to know they are lowest in pack. no tolerance of anything, i think kids also have to be trained to act right around dogs too though. A simple one i use is I never hit a dog, ill shake it as a correction so there is no confusion when the kids try to pet it.

he did kick box but turned pro after an amateur career. My favourite ben fight was when he fought collins at the g mex. I had just come over from Ireland to work and went to the fight. Chris pyatt vs Steve Foster had the crowd bouncing. Then 20000 benn fans were roaring him into the ring to some jungle music, then stadium went dark, celtic crosses in a light show, horslips music playing and then a light shines into the tunnel, Mission Impossible these tune started and collins made his way to the ring. Benn hit collins with his hardest left hook early and collins took it and after that

Jesus I can't beleive what I am hearing, putting ferret food in the fridge and getting the wife complaining...there is a suprise. If you are thinking of packing her in for that you are mad. Get another freezer, get 10 if it keeps her happy. Benn through a few rough patches myself but when you work out the cost of a divorce, both parties lose out. I have always said I dont want to be a saturday dad, so she can have it all her way if she wants Think about it

Sean A great river, as a kid we stayed in a caravan during the summer holidays near there and I poached that river, the dall river and the dun river as well as most of the mountains too Farmers there....you had to make sure you didn't get caught, salt pellets were a regular thing. Nice to see the photo I know exactly where you were. Cheers Celt

keeps good luck with another pup , the rabbits round our way will not have a chance. Saw the other local plummer this morning, luckily the lakie did not see him as a threat lol so he walked away with no bloodshed. Good luck controlling that bunch if they ever kick off with each other. Celt

Just asked my dad, he sold them for between 20 and 30 in ireland in early to mid eighties. Back then a working fox dog (terrier) could be sold for 300 - 400 easy he said. He said Never sold a working dog though despite having 6 kids to feed on a jcb drivers wage. Fair play to him I think.

Like knockavboy, I have seen some of the irish breeds working, wheaten cross russels and fells. Kerry blues have a special memory for me firstly my dads first terrier was a small kerry blue from show breeding which he worked at everything badger ( calm down late fifties early sixties) and fox, guarded the farm, fought any thing on 2 legs or four, fox, bit big for some earths he said but stayed and game as could be. He told me the dog taught him to hunt. Second memory was getting bitten by one as a kid. But i suppose if my dad didn't have "rover" I wouldn't have got into terriers. I've had i

can anyone help me, I was looking through a kennel club registration book and noticed the prefix "Kenmillone" used on nearly every breed from labs, doberman, rotties to mastiffs and so on. Is this a cover for something like puppy farming or is it an associated register. No real reason for knowing apart from being curious. Happy new year Celt

midnight there are some decent wheaten lines still around and people have told me glen of imaals that can do a job too ( i have not seen any) I would forget about trying to recreate working abilitys in breeds where it has gone and concentrate on keeping the working blood going in those left. Celt

When I was about 13, a terrier man friend of my dad told me one night (they were supping after a days digging) that your best terriers never die hunting it's always something else that gets them, bad luck there, hope the pups do their mam's memmory justice. yis celt
