  1. sounds promising mate, do you use felts in your nest pans ? Mine keep pulling them out, wondering what to stick them down with Just some pva glue or a cable tie is easiest to use or sow them, silicon sealer or double sided tape all work as well ..My bullie cocks are singing away like nothing else and my redpolls are all feeding each other but i'll wait just for a bit longer to put in nest pans etc unless i see them trying to build with whats about in the flights then i'll put them in as i allways think if a bird wants to and feels like it's ready to nest then let them do so rather than tryin

  6. Do to be honest the learning curve that I am having I would have with any dog as I am a novice when it comes to gun dog training, I am enjoying training and seeing the progress that the dog has made, what I found out yesterday is that there is no fixed training schedule as I have been following joe irvings book which maybe is different to the way maybe Bob does it, I have concentrated on the basics as you and everybody else has said with a few retrieves over and over for months and will for months or years to come, she is getting very good in my opinion for 10 month pup, now I need to get he
  7. . Hopefully I can turn it round flairball, although when I take her in the field at the side of my house she's the same, I had her in the garden bouncing tennis balls of the wall and she was squealing with excitement took her in field and tried it and went back in to hunt mode again, am I missing something or is it a case of keep trying?
  8. Went to see a gun dog trainer for him to assess my 10 month sprocker , took her in his field and she wouldn't retrieve as there was a lot of scent about , he said unless she retrieves then she will have no reward then you couldn't train, I understand what he's saying but at home in the garden she will retrieve and in the house, in the field she will fetch a dummy back but not tennis balls, further out in the field she won't retrieve she just looks for things to chase, any one else had this and overcome it?
  9. I have been training her through the advice given and the progress has been good but I messed up yesterday hence the question
  10. Usually have her on long lead and no problem, didn't want to resort to e collar but if I can't sort it out with trainer then I might have to , at what age would you think about it if she doesn't stop chasing
  11. I thought I had made Good progress with my sprocker pup training wise, had her in the field today with my daughter and didn't notice until to late she had taken of after some crows , then pigeon then more pigeon before finally coming back,I ran to her picked her up and took her back to the kennel , she's 10 month now and starting training classes in a couple of weeks, do you think this might have ruined her chances a bit now for being steady ? Has this happens to others at 10 months and they've turned it round again? Thanks for any replies or advice
  12. A friend of mine is after a blue whippit bitch pup if anyone knows of any litters about, like I say not for me so don't tell me the colour is irrelevant because I know, thanks for any replies
  13. If a dog runs into sheep wire that's on it will come back with tail between legs
  14. Any in Coventry area , Richard torr doesn't seem to get recommend
  15. When it's sitting getting it going again is what I mean, sitting is basic training I thought? So when pup is sat what command do I give to release it from sitting or do you leave it in sitting position until it moves on itself?
  16. getting a lot better, just think if I can gain her attention more her focus on me will improve, when she stops I want her to look at me for a command but how do you send on with a hand command when she's looking elsewhere and what command is best
  17. After sitting dog in field I am trying to send the dog on without verbal command , what hand action should I do, I struggle to get visual attention although she waits for verbal command, hence the hand action needed to be introduced
  18. . Do you use the spaniels for beating as well or just bushing? Do they come of game when behind it when running with lurches or keep running?
  19. Thanks for reply flairball, I think I will walk her on the lead until more control, waiting for gun dog classes to start in March then I will join them, maybe I am rushing because she is only 8 months and slowly making progress
  20. Any tips on how to get my 8 month old sprocker to look at me more when in the field, I am making it sit with hand signals and feeding by hand and staying with hand signals but once in the field she looks everywhere for birds or movement so I can't get her attention , I can sit and recall her by whistle most of the time but her focus is bad, retrieves in garden , I can even sit her throw dummy send her when I'm ready and sit her when she brings it back in garden but not in field, anything else I could practice on to gain focus? Thanks for any replies in advance
  21. I don't disregard the advice one bit , I also don't no how to determine the dog is 100% sorted without trying it in the field ?
  22. Had a bedlington whippit/greyhound, George Kelly bred bed whip to coursing grey, if I could find the same bred pup I would have to have it, long before the ban I would take her out with ferrets , the terriers , mouching and coursing and she did it all well, don't no if anyone breeds with the right ingredients anymore but if they do there worth keeping
  23. You need to keep your dog on a check cord, when he f**k off you have to be able to stop him. Get old of him apply some pressure so he knows he had done wrong.. Scruff him or something alike... Take him back to the spot he broke from and make he do what you where trying in the first place. You need to get the, to want to work for you... The ones that want to work for them selfs you need to be keep on top of them or they will be away from you. Had one like it and in the end I shipped it off to pro who put it back on track for me. Even better is for you not to take it near any birds find a quiet
