  1. i'm with you on the summer nights thing, esp with the poor weather we have had this winter. Just my views on a scope, i'm sure it won't be a shared one but... i brought a BSA scope for £110, 6-24 x 50. During all the nights of lamping i have never gone higher than 12mag, and thats taking 150yrd shots. during the day i may go to 16mag, but still, at 150yrds 12mag is fine for me. a common saying for scopes is buy the best you can - however i fell that my BSA for £110 is a good, basic scope and i've not noticed any of the ''you get what you pay for'' symptoms (yet) All the b
  2. Great stuff mate, likewise with regards to the HMR as a whole, a great round. I can now, (after 5weeks) of playing with it, head-shot a rabbit at 120 yards with ease. All the best with the new gun, PS love the stock mate
  3. CZ 452 Varmint Heavy Barrel .17HMR - BSA - 6-18 x 50 - SAK Mod - Hornady Vmax - Deben Tracer Pro Max
  4. Went for a walk about 10mins ago with the lamp, no rifle, just lamp. i didn't see a single rabbit in an hour, this is on land where i can usually shoot 12-15 in 4hours. There is a fair amount of snow on the ground here, so i take it that the snow puts the rabbits off...? Want to go for a lamp later tonight but am i wasting my time? Cheers
  5. I've got a DEBEN TRACER MAX PRO and i want to know a few things please people can i buy a standard 12v 7ah battery as a second while out shooting? also, could i up the amp hour to make it last longer, ie 12v 14ah?? would this double the usuable time or just add loads of weight? thanks
  6. .17hmr for rabbit....? costly rounds but oh so good out to 160-200yards
  7. Sporting age, apologies I didn't make my self clear, none of what I said was aimed at you, merely a comment of how difficult it is to remain within peoples conception of what it is legal to do with a gun let alone what can go wrong if you use the weapon as a threat. Some people will turn the opposite way if they see a man with a gun, and some will file a report if you shoot within 400yds of their boundary etc. My example of the copper waiting for me to return to my car is a classic example of how lawful firearm users are viewed. Again no offence intended at all A good exampl
  8. Halfinch and ANYONE who would like to know the legal status of the above staged situation, i'll be asking this question to my FLO and will be posting the response on the forum. What a thread i've started here ay!!
  9. Certanly ask your FLO, if he his uniform Plod he'll be able to give you the sp on what to if you have a firearm in your possetion etc. If its Section 24 (arrest and detain) you want to know about, he may not be the best person to ask, as its probably not something he would know about on a day to day basis; likewise the Occupiers Liability side he possably is not the best to ask; but there is certanly no harm him picking his brains. think i'll do that next week - nothing to loose and as you said he may not know the in's and out's but he will know where to send me... cheers for that
  10. a section of this post (( http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...=78685&st=0 )) is below - Deker raised some very true points regarding the SAKO Quad ; All the best
  11. TSA - ok pal, thanks again, i'll google it up and was just thinking - why can't i ask my local flo for info and direction on to how to deal with these situations....? after all, they are there to help and the fact that i'm asking shouldn't reflect badly on me (well i hope not!)
  12. TSA - thanks for your............ No problem. The Act, as with all similar is bloody lengthy although there are bits to be found online. If you PM me specific questions I will try and answer them, or at least give you an idea of which sections of the Act are rellevent so you can look them up. ATB Just a link to any of the pace act would be great, i'm sure i'll spend hours reading through it and trying to make sence of it all! And after a £10,000 operation involving the chopper the scum probably got a suspended sentence A pair of good Dobermans would have s
  13. TSA - thanks for your very true input into this matter, would you be able to supply a link to the above section of the P.A.C.E.Act please? I've tried looking on the pace website but only seem to get chapters. Thanks again
  14. I think so too, if the event was to ever happen and for what ever reason, however it was dressed up, and what they were armed with - leave it to the LAW. otherwise i'll always run the risk of getting in more trouble than the offenders. i'm sure my feelings are shared accros the site however we live in the uk and like it or not the law is the law. mad as it makes me and what i'd do if i was in the 'power' to change things but.... Thanks for you views, advice and help regarding the law people
  15. I can totally understand that point SS, UK gun law is so tight and restricted that the amount of both justification and luck you would need to construct an inadmissable defence case in the courts regarding firearms offences far outways the risk of involving a firearm in the first place. Mad as it is - i think how ever the drama unfolded, i'd have a hell of a job to the the law on my side (and i don't want to give up my FAC!) this was something that was running through my mind at the time, ''I can't not act, but i cant tell if they have a shotgun or 300ft knife somewhere'', so i put m
  16. Cool, it's hard as everyone puts there ''if it happened to me'' story in, which is fine, but it does drift from the matter in hand. ta for the advice pal
  17. Mixed coments there guys - thanks to everyone, after all it's views and details on the law i wanted. As i said in the 1st post it was one of those times where you dont really have time to think, you just act, glad i didn't just grab the rifle and do what i felt like really doing - inbetween the eyes of both of them! for those who read and coment that 'the fact you even thought about it' etc, we all think of doing things pre and post haste but thinking is fine in my book, actions would be a different thing! none of us are 's ..... Cheers all.
  18. Yea,I hear you on that one! thought something like that would arise from that type of situation... cheers mate
  19. plods where here again this afternoon, prints from the gate but can't remember if they had gloves, so that may lead to something. Never guess what - the number lates were stolen from a place in suffolk last week....... I didnt want to say about the rifle i had in case they saw me as high risk FAC holder if you get me. It's the 3rd time this year people have tried to get in, but how far do you go untill you've replicated Fort Knox!?
  20. hi, Sad start to today. Woke up, pulled up the blind in the bedroom (3.20am) to look at the farm over the road to see a horse box i didnt recognize and two lads walking around the stables - strange i thought. (esp at this time of the morning) I called the owner (he's house is about 300yards from the stables) and i'd woke him up by calling him! Told him what i'd seen and he said get out there and rumble them, i'll meet you there. So thinking on my feet i just got dressed and ran out, they were spooked to see me! one bloke was trying to walk a horse out the stable into the horse
  21. Hi there. As i have said in the this post, http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=79135 , I have just brought a CZ452 HMR for £280 SAK Mod for £35 and 400rounds or Hornady Varmit express for £. thats £395 so easilly do-able with £400. 22. ESS - Essex Shooting Supplies Ltd. Address: Cantields Farm. Easthorpe Kelevenden . Colchester. Essex. CO5 9HH. Phone: 01206 330324 It looks like a farm yard from the outside, NO signs or any kind of shop front, you even have to enter the shop through the house's front door!! But they do have everything you will ever need to start off with - good prices too. All the best
  23. i got my CZ452 Varmint HMR - long/heavy barrel from ESS - Essex Shooting Supplies in Colchester, Essex for £280 Fab little place (got all you'll need) If your interested i'll give you the number and address and put a word in for you. The 16'' barrel will cost more, so if £370 is the price for the cheaper of the two - ££££'s!!! All the best mate Carl
  24. Help me out chap, I am very curious after your comments......what were these BIG ADVANTAGES, of the Quad?? ..on the basis you paid £280 for the CZ and rate it...spot on out to 200yds, easy to clean, easy to use, easy and cheap to upgrade trigger Cheers if your new to shooting (or like the flexibilty) and don't really know the pro's and con's of each caliber, the quad offers the flexability of changing parts rather than the whole rifle to shoot different caliper rounds, .22RF, .22WMR, .17HMR and .17 Mach2 Didn't say the best or in any way better than any other rifle, the above
