  1. hi pal, new to shooting myself. i managed to get permission on 3 different farms by dressing smart, acting mature and driving into every farm yard and asking any farmer i found if he would give me permission to shoot over his land. best of luck, its a long process!!
  2. hi mate, got a cz452 Varmint, 22'' barrel. the only thing to look at is the weight, if shooting from a car/4x4 the short barrel is lighter, so easier to swing about, but if using a bi-pod i prefered the look of the long barrel, and the varmint looks more solid too (looks only!). no difference in performance, well the long barrel is 0.9% more accurate than the short barrel so i've ben told, (so at 200yrds thats about 1-2mm out) so looks and weight - as far as i'm aware/concerned Hope that helps carl
  3. thats what i had to do, i spent £50 diesel and 6 days driving down every farm yard track and knocked on over 100 doors asking for the land owner. Carried my BASC insurance, dressed smartly, and put my 'mature head' on. in the end i've managed to get permission on 2700acres locally. It really isn't easy, i was lucky to have got what i have by the sounds of it from here. Good luck mate
  4. In that post i was asking if anyone knew of any land in the halstead area, not asking to share anyones land. but can understand what your saying. i could have worded it slightly better. it WASN'T ment to come across that way. The situation with all the gear and no permission was my problem and I shouldn't have let it come across as a brag! i got a blinding deal on the rifle, scope,bi-pod,ammo etc and just wanted to get it all home and start using it. Thankfully i have land now and will soon have a FAC. Thank you to everyone who has advised me and guided me through obtaining a FAC.
  5. from reading both topics you have running, it sounds like upto this point you'vre wanted your fac handed to you on a plate no more need to wonder now, got 430 acres with full permission to shoot with air rifles, .17hmr, .22lr and 223. the farmer completed my FAC application for meand also added a covering letter. the police have already visited his land and ok'ed it for someone else a few months ago so now there shouldn't be anything stopping me holding a FAC. also got another farmer with a 40 acre field to also put in a covering letter giving me permission to shoot, so one
  6. am going for a drive around today, going to ask in person any farmer i see in a farmyard! The deal i got on the rifle and kit was undeatable, bigtime!, so done things arse about face, but its all got a deposit on it and will wait at the shop for me to get a FAC thanks
  7. got all the accessories and the cabinet very cheap, also got a deposit on a cz 452 hmr as in 2weeks they go up by £30-£60. i will get land surely, i'm surrounded by fields and woods!!
  8. yes thats a good idea, i've managed to get some of my information on to the profile page, and whenmy brothers here later i'll get him to put some pictures up for me. DOES ANYONE know if i don't complete the ''locations to shoot'' section on the FAC application will it be refused? My gun safe's up on the wall, got my scope, bi-pod, sling, slip, deposit on the CZ 452 HMR, but then i'm stopped by the FAC! cheers I've replied in the other post but now I see your problem - you have 2 choices: 1) Keep trying until you find some land (this is the best route I reckon, you're b

  11. i'll have a go at the profile page but i'm not very up to date with using the internet and forums etc, with regards to the permission issue, i'm unable to send off my FAC application as i havn't any land to list that i can shoot on....
  12. hi chaps, does anyone know of any land in halstead area of essex to shoot on? asked so many farmers and they all say no! cheers
  13. thanks for the range of info chaps. if it makes no difference other than weight, 20'' it'll be. is £285 a good price does anyone know? cheers
  14. thanks chaps, don't understand the difference in price myself, you pay more to get less? i think i'll go for the 20'' heavy barrel, got a price of £285 rifle only. cheapest price i've managed to get. will mostly be using a bi-pod and prob never shooting from a cab, so weight isn't an issue cheers
  15. Hi chaps, is there a difference in the 16'' and 20'' barrels with the above rifle? Weight is no problem to me but there seems to be a £30-£ price difference!! ps. i'm looking for heavy barrel aswell thanks
  16. hi chaps, got a question for those in the know. just about to send of the application form for the FAC, all refferences sorted, gun safe bolted in, mini safe in bedroom for ammo etc, but on the application form it asks for the land you'll be shooting on. how many acres is classed as 'a large enough area'? thanks
  17. thanks for all the advice guys, its made my mind up anyway. when i get my FAC sorted i'll be having lots of fun!!
  18. As a matter of interest why the heavy barrel??? Been told that the heavy barrel deals with the heat better...? im blind here as i don't really know if this is the truth, can only trust gun dealers and your help on here!
  19. thanks for that mate, it's all new to me but the cz hmr sounds like the perfect rifle for me have you got a link for that trigger kit please?
  20. Hi people, am looking at buying a CZ .17 HMR 16'' barrel, heavey barrel. any views on if this is a good gun. will beusing it for pest control, small pest's. I hear it'll do 2550fps and is good upto 200yrds?? thanks
  21. Hello people, just joined the forum so thought i'd say hello. Am about to apply for a FAC as i've been using a .22 air rifle for pest control but this is not doing the job in question. I have a CZ varmint .17 HMR 16'' heavey barrel waiting for me to pay for and collect - when i get my FAC. Gun safe is bolted to the floor and small safe in bedroom for ammo and firing pin, refferences given to two people who know me and trust me, so awaiting the police to pay me a visit and hopefully i'm away!!!! regards
