I did the same as above but put mine in the airing cupboard, After a week it was rock hard so I gave it a soak and a scrub to soften it up, Its still going strong after about 18 months

He's got a point I think, There should be more help and advice for a bloke moving to a new area. At least he wants to know a good reliable vet before anything happens rather than leaving it till the damage is done

How big are the sets? Maybe a few more Ferrets would make them bolt harder, Are you stood infront of the holes? Rabbits would be reluctent to bolt if you are? Noise? This would also make them reluctant. to bolt?
