Morning, if money is really tight and you cant get professional help then keep up the frontline as that will kill any fleas that come into contact with the dogs and hoover properly and I mean properly every day making sure you empty the bag after every go. It will interrupt the lifecycle of the fleas. Depending on which fleas they are, and there are lots, they also will only be able to reproduce by feeding from their specific host ie dog fleas need a blood meal from a dog and a cat flea will need a blood feed from a cat etc. So if the dogs are frontined and the house is hoovered then in time t

Its a very grey area, endagering the public safety is a reason to remove a nest and eggs, if the nest is likely to cause damage to the property ie blocking guttering which could then cause a leak thats another good reason. But still tread carefully as we all know there are a lot of people likely to kick off if they see you do it. My neighbout uses a hosepipe to blast the nest, its quite effective ! The local authorities do not want the aggravation especially if they are in coastal locations, they would have to leave the rats all summer !

Thanks Guys, the varnish was a little bit chipped and a bit hazy so I have stripped it and oiled it, I think it looks great now and I am really pleased with it.

I have just bought a AYA Yeoman 12g O/U ejector special edition ( engraving ) in really good condition with 3 chokes is this a good buy. It is my first gun and it was about all I could afford right now. I just wondered what people thought. Thanks.

The story sort of goes that the original owner gave them to a friend due to a change in his circumstances a while ago in Kent and moved to Cornwall, for some reason the dogs were dumped in east sussex. The original owner is now fuming and will have to travel 300 or so miles !

I am sure it would have a lot of outstanding attributes as a working dog, strong,fearless,fast and big but not all of us if we are really honest are the best dog trainers with the time and patience that would be needed for these dogs, a lot of us incorporate our dogs in our daily lives as well as our working ones too, I have met Akitas and Akita crosses,. they are magnificent dogs but hard work and time consuming. In the right hands a fantastic tool, in the wrong hands a fantastic tool !

Thanks to anyone who looked re the shepherds, I managed to locate the original owner through the microchip and plenty of phone calls. He is coming up from cornwall to sussex for them. I know it does'nt always work but if you loose a dog having them chipped for a few quid can sometimes save you and your dog. Colin.

Just an off chance really, we found 2 huge bear like German Shepherds together in east sussex on monday one is black and tan and the other is all black. Looks like they have been working guards as they have no manners on a lead but friendly enough. At a guess they are 2 or 3 years old. They are in good health apart from a few cuts and grazes and well fed so I would imagine they have been well looked after which means someone may be missing them. Asking around they had been seen around for a few days.

In my house the wife is as scary as hell ! But I Have 2 dark brindle bull mastiffs and a doberman as well as the lurcher and border terrier. All family pets and workers but the 3 bigguns all look the part and luckily enough have never been put to the test. The bullys are big and quick and I dont think you would take the chance! But I have to say a well trained intelligent athletic Doberman is a dog to be reckoned with.

As terriers go I think they are an acquired taste, I have a 4 year old bitch and I think she is great. I am talking from experience and when she was young I thought as a worker she was not going to be great as all the ratters we went out with, jrt's etc seemed to be much more keen to get on with the job with my border mooching around behind them, and me getting a bit despondant ! But after a while she got more and more into it and she is now as keen as any. I have read and heard that they take a little longer than the mad brains but they think a little more. for me thats fine as she is excelle

I have a border a lurcher a dobe and 2 bullmastiffs and I have tried everything from cheap to very expensive dried foods and have had mixed results from all of them. A big problem being piles of s**t everywhere as their stomachs try to get rid of all the stuff that is not very natural for them to be eating, they also seem to get bored with dry food, Bakers has been banned in the States I think for its bonemeal and high salt content, it sells becauase it looks good. All mine eat and seem to love raw minced tripe that you can buy in 2kg bags from any pet shop or online with a low protein mixer, -
Try to steer clear of the big companies if you can they will rip you off ! If you need pest control most councils will treat free of charge, if you know they are in your garden stay up with an air rifle, much more satisfying.

I walk my 3 on farmland which the public are allowed to use, the problem is there are deer, hare and rabbit there too, my dobe has been in the local paper for chasing, deer my lurcher has had hares and the border flushes all three, do I run the risk of losing my dogs ?

I'm sure next time whatever or wherever you are shooting that will make you think safety. Most of my guns have had safety catches but my air arms s200 for some strange reason hasn't ! so I am extra careful. -
I will definitely miss DS, as a fairly new memeber his posts were the ones I first read and then looked for. A wealth of information and knowledge, and funny too ! I know that a lot of you long time members and I think DS as well, dont always like us new members but hopefully with time and experience we can be accepted. Good luck to DS wherever he is.

Hi all, I got my first lurcher 15 months ago, she's bedlington/whippet, bedlington/whippet/greyhound,she's a fantastic little bitch just under 22" at the shoulder, very quick and agile turning, we have only been on rabbit. She has just finished her second season and I would like to breed her next time. What dog do you think I should use as I dont want to spoil her. If I had my way I would use a saluki, would that be wise. P.s I dont know her breeding as I bought her from some guys in a van!!! Thanks.

As a PCO I was dealing with a rat problem on a ladies property, between visits last month I was told that the lady had died of Leptospirosis ! Apparently she had been in contact with contaminated water in the bird bath. Just goes to show that complacencyby PCO's can be dangerous. I will be wearing my gloves all the time now.
