  9. canon or sigma ? is there much difference , cheers
  10. Your tunnel traps would not work well in Ilkley, Steeton/silsden, Keighley, Skipton and local surrounding areas. However my traps work in most situations within these areas and have worked well for a good number of years. Happy trapping in leeds. some things just slip by folks
  11. You are everything i hate about this pest control forum. A Stuck up snob looking down your nose at people who you think are less informed than yourself or "non-professionals" as you like to call them , really in the grand scale of things he's not going to go out of his way to join some group so he can be coverd for the 5mins it will take to do this job, dispite what you think. Pest control is not a hard job, getting a squirrel out of some old womans loft or setting a few mole traps, try pest controling 60,000 acers of grouse moor, its a lot diffrent from your 9 - 5 (if that) ploding around a f
  12. so , how much should i charge for a mole job?
  13. you lads need to get yourselves a job were a landy is provided
  14. dunno the answer to your question , but a bit of advice, make sure the roof and walls are well insulated as this can make a huge difference to your heating oil usage
  15. cracking little book , i bought i a good few years ago
  16. i have never bin a fan of brass wire for rat or squirrel snares as i have heard of as much as 1 in 5 snapped snares which i find unacceptable ,i used to use pike trace wire , 45-60 lb breaking strain , good to use and bad to see only ever had 1 snare snapped and that was pegged to the ground rather than on a beam or leaning log
  17. you can have all the power in the world, but it wont do any good if most of it is used to throw the animal off of the trap,OTC is right when he said the clutch type trap may be the way forwards,i think if this trap was beefed up,and tweaked a bit ,it might come up to scratch, failing that ,whats wrong [other than price ]of the soft catch leg hold trap. i don,t think blighty will ever allow leg/foot hold traps for any animal especially rabbits as i would think a rabbits foot isnt anything like strong enuff to take a foothold without breaking it, most foothold trap users in the states aim t
  18. seems this thread has fizzeled out a bit , so what would improve a fenn or what design would be suitable for rabbit trapping? i would like to see a stronger spring on the fenns and also the top of the flat kill bar (the bit where the thumb ring is)would be better with either a bit welded on the edge or bent round so its similar shape to the round wire side , difficult to explain , any more ideas ?
  19. i know what you mean , but like you said , if i didn,t do my job year round , then the boss will employ someone that will its always bin pest control to me , i have killed summer rabbits even on unpaid permission , not just to keep the permission , but also to stop the landowner wanting others on to do the job i wouldn,t or couldn,t
  20. dunno about the mk 4 , but the mk 6 sample i was sent to try out was not very good at all, when the trap was sprung , there was a fair gap between the trap jaws which in my view was not acceptable , this was about 2 years ago , so maybe its bin improved since
  21. still not a fenn fan then peggy , lol i have to say , i think duckwing has hit the nail right on the head, the tunnel size and trap position is a huge part of getting things right, also the trap covering can make or break a well set trap , like i have said many times before , its the small details that matter, i do think the mk 6 could be stronger with little trouble and it would certainly help with dispatching quicker ,however if an arse end catch is made ,it don,t matter how strong the spring is i use both mk6 and 116 just about every week and get a good kill rate in both , but neither
  22. i totally agree with duckwing , i could do with 7 months of the year off
  23. side opening larsens are good for magpies and crows thats an interesting 4 bird catcher you have, i see theres a maggie in one of the catchers , i have trapped many hundreds of crows and maggies and have caught crows using a maggie decoy bird , but never had a maggie come into a crow decoy, do you get this often ?
  24. not quite true , a good few years ago now , i trapped over 3000 rats on 2 neighbouring farms in less than a year, 1 an out door unit(reasonably tidy) the other was intensive indoor unit(absolute shit hole), i also shot at night with air rifle , not sure what i killed but 40 wasn,t uncommon per night , posion wasn,t working due to the high protein pig food all over the place, both farms were under control in less than a year and could then be kept under control using posion in the right place I'm not gonna argue but in 10 weeks in 2008 i killed 4256 rats from a battery hen farm using, baitin
