  1. ? you mean cover my bitch with a collie greyhound? its just like i said have easy access to pure greyhound or 1/4 bull greyhound and i know they both good dogs Also know the saluki dogs are more popular with the coursing lads but mine does everything i have asked of her and i just like saluki blooded dogs never been to keen on collie looking dogs. i know looks arent important but if i kennel something i like i feel more chance of getting the best out of it. why dont you breed it to a good coursing dog mate. yeah have thought about it, its just getting in touch with the right people,

  3. any problems with her feet my mate had a bull greyhound saluki greyhound was fantastic looking bitch really keen but its feet smashed to pieces every time it ran. although live on the yorkshire wolds ground is flinty
  4. are both the sire and dam 1stcross dogs?
  5. you breed her yourself? how much bull and saluki she got in her?

  7. Any experience on this cross? Pros and cons? Is one dog breed dominatant over the others or do you often get heavy boned bulls and lighter more elasticy built saluki types in the same litter? Any pictures of your bull greyhound x saluki greyhound dogs would be great
  8. my bitch is 3/4saluki 1/4greyhound. I will use the pup mainly for rabbits on the lamp, out with the ferrets and general mooching about with the terriers. The thing is 3 of the pups are spoken for already, but i have 3 dogs already so only really got kennel space for one more so i want a cross that will appeal to others so thought the bull greyhound X saluki greyhound would be more of an all purpose hound?
  9. currently have a 3/4saluki greyhound bitch which is due to break in season soon, have easy access to 3good stud dogs (a 3/4greyhound 1/4 bull, very fast pure greyhound, a small working whippet) all which would add something valuable to the pups. Was just after your views on which way you would breed? at the moment think im leaning towards the bull x ( ive seen its parents and its grandparents original greyhound used was even at same track as mine so know about the breeding and that they all worked)
  10. nice dog, nottinghams not a bad track ran decent enough times reaching good grade
  11. getting started in greyhound racing is relatively easy if you want to put them round the flapping tracks, personally i would browse the classifieds for a young adult dog that is already schooled but may be not up to the owners requirements ie not open class, doesnt stay 4 bends etc. I dog like this can be picked up cheap and is more than adequte for graded sprints on the flaps. As for care and getting the dog ready for a race just keep it warm, feed it well and exercise it. With time and experience you will know the dogs ie what weight they run best at, how much exercise (had one top grade spr
  12. the westmead prefix is used by british breeder nick savva, westmead lines are massive with many different dogs in the breeding, do you know the specific westmead dog that is in your lurcher? but if not as a rule the westmead dogs are very good
  13. nice looking dog out of a well bred litter most of littermates raced top grade or on the open scene all over stayers distance should be a good bitch good luck
  14. thankyou sandymere and chalkwarren you are the only two who have actually understood my question and given intelligent answers. As for everybody else i never asked which is best greyhound or lurcher just enquired about there breeding record.
  15. thanks threbb you seem to be the only one getting the original question. As you said the average lurcher is bred then the offspring moved on and forgotten about, but what about the coursing dogs seems to be more knowledge of the dogs bloodline, some of the coursing threads on here talk of coursing strains?
  16. bit different to a quick mooch round the paddock looking for a rabbit or two!
  17. after four i wouldnt breed until its proved its worth and if breeding!!breed worker to worker we dont need any more bad ones out their Whats the oldest you would let a dog reach before its 1st litter?
  18. think you misunderstood or i didnt make myself clear. I know not all greyhounds turn out brillant but say you hae a top class dog that wins good quality opens quite often a bitch of the same breeding who only made it as a moderate grader will be bred from purely because she has good bloodlines. Was trying to ask if this happens in the lurcher world? say you had a topclass coursing dog from a long line of topclass animals but its sister never really made the grade would you still breed because she has a quality bloodline. I dont think you would?
  19. Nice looking greyhound? do you know what track she went round? or her racing name can find alot of valuable info out before you breed.
  20. I have had track greyhounds for a number of years and still keep a couple but only ever personally kennelled the one lurcher. Greyhounds and lurchers are both obviously bred with performance in mind 1st and looks 2nd, but why is it some greyhounds never make the track but are bred from purely on quality of bloodlines (and produce top offspring) but it is frowned upon in the lurcher world if you dont breed top worker to worker? Surely the old established bloodlines would produce no matter what? Ive heard some greyhound breeders say certain bitches would produce winners if crossed with a labra
  21. At what age would a dog or bitch be before you decide to breed? Couple of seasons work?
  22. markdog

    breeding?

Anybody remember caloona striker from a couple of yrs ago was a top staying dog, well i have his full litter brother (well bred from westmead line) and was thinking of putting him across a lurcher bitch. Know alot of peolpe pickup ex track bitches for breeding, but have any of you used a track sire for lurcher breeding? was is succesful
  23. Anybody heard of a 1st cross bull from few yrs ago called max think it was originally bred from gingers stock [bANNED TEXT] he was in wales, think the dog was from the east yorks area?
  24. so what should i look for in a whippet stud dog? what are the best racing bloodlines?
  25. Dont want the pups to be massive the bitch i have in mind is only 23" like the look of the dog posted on this topic. No not been to a race day but your advice would be to use a non pedigree racing stud. What kinda size is an average whippet dog? as for sooty sam bloodlines are these pedigree racers?
