I wouldn't say the cockeral would not em off lay if anything if he's treading em it should spur em on to lay.I know a lad who bought 60 pl pullets to sell the eggs at his gate he had em on kibbled maize and he hardley got a egg as soon as he put em on layers pellets they come flying out.

John if the younger 1's were bought 3 months ago and were pol then that means there still this years birds so they won't moult untill next year anyway i'd still try putting a egg in 1 of the nest boxes and if it disapears you at least know there laying all you have to do it find out whats taking em.I was always told to blow a egg out and fill it with creosote for egg eating hens 1 they don't like the taste and should stop em. 2 it stains the beak and you'll know who the egg eater is.

Labs its more like £350-400 for a PM down here then then want 3-4 days to grow the plates then sting you for antibioctics to put em on while you wait for a out come.Think thats why most of the time keepers hazard a guess at what they've got and end up going to the vets when its too late and there birds are dying like feck. What gets me how they push 1 drug 1 season whats the best on the market then the next season don't use that 1 ( what you've half a tub left over from) use this 1 its a lot better then the 1 you had last year.I'm afraid my conclusion is its all down to the money you pay em.

Never done it so i couldn't comment on something i don't no nothing about.

funny that a company rep selling there products would recommend using it whether it,s needed or no but as you say each to their own and I am pleased you had a good rearing season  I thought a sales rep would be pleased we was buying they product and using it if it was for prevention or cure.I was always told to use solulite's or electrolite's when using baycox because of the bitter taste of baycox it needs sweetening up so the birds especially partridges drink it but as we've discussed everybody got different views and methods on doing things. Also 2 different vets can give you 2 di

Does anybody know that were the only country not to have baycox licenced to use on cocci in dogs. The states and some of european countrys use baycox for treatment in puppy's and dogs.

When you say 'runs' do you mean outside on the grass mate? If so what age do you normally let them out? Mines dont see a bit of grass until 5 weeks, this year been more like 5 and a half weeks. I just dont see the point in putting them out early. All my birds are 7 weeks plus before they leave the field. They get bleach in there water all the time(keeps it clean) and they get a dose of Antibiotics at bitting time. Other than that they do really well.A couple of pens have have to be dosed this year with Baycox, no surprise with the weather...........never need to do it normally. But we always g

Theres 2 ways of looking at prevention we prevent medicate and had no problems whats ever this year. Its been that wet on our field that some poults never got into the run's untill 4 weeks old, I've also know of keepers who don't and this year had major problems and have threw alot more medication at there birds because there ill then we do as a prevention so as i said before it works for us also we don't have to end up using medication whats no longer licenced to keeper/game farms to use.
-
You do what ever works for you mate and the standard of birds what leave our rearing field are better then alot of people. With this year being a very testing year for some weve not had a ounce of cocci on the field or to wood so far so i'm sure that speaks volume's.We went to a talk at the vets we use at the start of the season and too there was a bayer rep there and they put it across prevention is always better then cure

This was a conclusion what the gcwt came up with about 4-5 years ago and stood by and recommended to follow.

Put a egg in 1 of the nest boxes if it disappears you'll know eggs are being taken

A little tip when once on wheat get a hand sprayer and put about a inch and half of pancur in the bottom and fill the rest with water as your filling you bag of wheat up out of the trailer or your spinner ar what ever you use and lightly spray the wheat not to much so it binds together and gets stuck in your spinner enough so its damp.Do so for 5-7 days and i've found thats as good as any thing. Also 1 litre to 250 litres of water in your header tank but keep giving it a stir 3-4 times aday also works very well.
