oh thats really sad, why have they closed it? elf n safety? I,ve spent great times up there, old Trevor the Porter, in his white coat got me a few New Forrest ponies years ago.I once travelled home with a kid goat on my lap, one that escaped being turned into curry I haven't been for a few years, but I used to pop in if I was in the working in the area dressed in a shirt & tie.It used to freak some out as they thought I was someone official spying on them. They used to siddle up and start asking random q's.They only relaxed if I talked to a few people I know there. its a shame its gon

I am always in awe of these men who went through such horror in the war, then came home and became parents and grandparents and never let on or moaned about post traumatic stress disorder and compensation.Well at least mine didn't he was a great man who didn't really talk much about the war. I don't think people like Simonmans Grandad are appreciated or considered enough for what they endured. thanks for posting that

American Miniature Horse Stallion
Bagpuss replied to Netter's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Maybe he should breed proper horses and not man made pointless creatures like that.If its worth that much money he should keep it in the house. Shouldn't he have taken notice when the other 11 were killed?? Rant over -
Getting Started With Shotguns
Bagpuss replied to Funky_monks's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I got my shotgun licence last year,I secured my cabinet to the wall in a corner hidden by a wardrobe. I had only fired a shotgun once but the firearms officer was more concerned with me having a sensible attitude and that I had permission where I could use it. Basicaly it is almost everyones right to have one so cover all the issues and they can't really say NO. -
had a go at making my first larsen trap!
Bagpuss replied to bigbulls's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
The Keeper on the shoot next to my permision had a supprise when he checked his Larson trap on sunday morning, he had a big fox in his.I couldn't tell who was more pissed off the magpie or the fox? -
As I was driving up to the Enfield a10 junction on the M25 this morning, on the opposite side I saw a munty happily picking his way between the young trees on the bank down to the motorway. Now this wasn't at dawn but 8 oclock mid rush hour. It did not seem at all concerned. Have you seen something that made you smile lately?

Elma, Please keep us updated, you've got me wanting one now. have you found any issues with them yet? My only down side is it will have to fit through my garden gate as I haven't got a garage. I will have to measure the gate.... Bagpuss

Who has done most to publicise the Countryside to the masses?
Bagpuss replied to The Sporting Agent's topic in General Talk
yes Jack Hargreaves was the one, I was transfixed as a kid,his programes were brilliant. However today the only way it seems to be acceptable to show country sports and rural life is if its based around getting quality food: ie Pot kiln with Mike Robinson,Wild Gourmates, Hugh FW and even Jamie has shown lamping and shooting. But apart from that route its not PC enough for the tv. As for that Johnny Kingdom its about as interesting as Cbeebies. -
Hi Gunner, Is it just lurchers or terriers also? and who is stopping dog owners? Bagpuss

I have been looking forward to my first Clay Pigeon lesson this afternoon at Broomhills in Markyate.Got there all excited with my new cartridge bag and Shotty.Only to be told the place was shut and the police had tapped the gate off.Apparently a body had been found in thier fields I know its a horrible thing to have happened, but I couldn't help feeling sorry for myself as it was the first sunny day for ages and I really didn't want to be a crap shot next w/end when I go clay shooting with friends. Can anyone recomend somewhere for lessons in the Herts area?

I have used both the Baikel 20g and the Mossberg 12g , from the Hushpower range. Both were quiet. I found the Mossberg too unwieldy as I am fairly short and it was like carrying round a scaffold pole.I ended up going for a Laporte moderated shotgun as it was normal size and an O/U. Bagpuss

Arter Par boiling the potatoes and roughing them up a little , my Nan used to shake a little flour over them before putting them in HOT fat. They were the crunchiest fluffiest roast potatoes ever!!! Goose fat is best but only special occasions as its probably gonna give me a heart attack as is everything else I like

I am awaiting a visit for my Shotgun Cert, but am getting really impatient. I was visiting the Gun shop at a country store this week and they had a Silenced o/u 12g by a company called LaPorte. It looked so much better than the Mossberg Hushpower I am intending getting. It was lighter and Shorter which was a bonus. However it was twice the price second hand. I am really tempted but can't find any info on them. Are they a good gun? and are they as quiet as a Hushpower? All advise gratefully accepted
