  1. Nice one AG. I like seeing pictures of normal fish just caught for a bit of sport. I am reading Terry Hearns book at the moment Still Searching, and the number of blanks those boys put in to prove the fishing has tailed off is more than I do in a year. As for fish hurling themselves onto the hook at commercials, it may happen at some but not the ones I have been to. Try fishing the Roman Lake at Furnace and see how you do. Anyway shame the post got hijacked there you go. p.s. wish all were as diligent with the unhooking mat...
  2. I will have one please pm me the paypal details. thanks Mart
  3. What worked for me, was a trick I learnt from an old book. Obviously easier with Kit but will work with an adult doesn't sound like she is doing loads of damage. When she bites, gently but firmly push your hand towards her whilst holding her in place. Basically push towards her without her being able to get away. When she squirms to get away hold it for a couple of seconds and then let her go. Immediately offer her the chance to do it again, hopefully she won't but if she does repeat. This combined with all the postive advice you have had should sort it, I found whistling when I w
  4. River was very high, few knocks on the worms but nothing landed. Could have been small stuff. Mate caught 4lb chub in morning before I arrived. Roll on the start of the new season. On a positive, it was still great to be out, bats swooping about etc.
  5. dug up a load of worms this afternoon. Going to test the worm/flooded water theory. will post any decent pics
  6. I've just finished digging the garden in the rain started as it turned dusk finished in pitch black. I want to plant some veg this weekend, couldn't go in to get my coat as I knew I wouldn't come out again.
  7. How did he take pictures that good at night? I used to struggle taking pictures of cars and bikes racing - even though you know where they are going to go. Apart from his skill it must be a great camera he uses
  8. Re. handling etc. the more you play with them when they are small the better. If they nip you when young, gently press your knuckle or whatever they have hold of into their mouth until they start to struggle to get away. On a positive note, whistle exactly the same way every time you go to feed them. When they are out and you do that whistle they will come running.
  9. This is a site I use for software of all types, you can filter the results to just give you those that are free. One of these may well do you job http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?t...leSize=&ca=
  10. If you think this is bad, I posted on Border Terrier World in their working section. They nearly had kittens at the thought of discussing working your terrier on the net, but still had the working section. I cannot understand it. Anyhow, I'm sure we will get there one way or the other, she seems convinced that she's a deerhound at the moment - a bit game for a dog that weighs 6.5 kg.
  11. Considering how much it cost in raw materials to build my mates shed that looks a bargain to me.
  12. I really want to take my dog fishing more, problem is, she is addicted to halibut pellets. Wish the barbel ate them as quickly
  13. Not been out much due to finding/renovating and moving into new house. Going to have a last afternoon on the Mole freelining on Fri though. Going to get out much more after June 16 though.
  14. I know this sounds a bit daft but could the dog be allergic to something. At about 6 months my border bitch kept on getting bald patches on her legs and vomiting her food. Changing food stopped the vomiting but didn't get rid of the bald patches. After about 9 months of different foods we had her tested at the vet and turns out she is allergic to wheat and rice which is in loads of dog food. I know it is a long shot and you definitely wouldn't choose to pay for the test, but maybe a change from dry food to wet/raw would do a job.
  15. reading this thread makes me think I will never make the right contacts. I simply want to do a bit of ratting and rabbiting with my border, but do not have any mates who work dogs. I can understand people being cautious, but it is a bit depressing. I will keep reading the posts though, its great to see the dogs work
  16. Nice looking fish and good to see pictures of fish on a wet unhooking mat. What tactics were you using?? Wet Nets
  17. I've got an 18 month old border from a gamekeeper in Shropshire. He kept two of her sisters to work so she should be ok. I live in North Hampshire. Does anyone get out around here?
  18. Thanks I got her from a Gamekeeper in Shropshire, he kept one of her sisters so I am pretty sure she should be up for work. So far all she has killed is a rabbit she caught. Problem is I don't really have the contacts to get her the work. Shame you are up in Northumberland, bit of a trek Anyway thats why I joined the site so hopefully I will find someone to help us out. Look forward to seeing the pictures of your dogs.
  19. Hi there, I have just joined the forum and wanted to say hello, I grew up in Leicestershire in semi rural area, and have always been interested in field sports but not as involved as I would like. I had ferrets for a while, but the guys I knew who were experienced seemed to spend more time talking about it in the pub than actually getting out. I now live in Hampshire and have a 1 1/2 year old border from working stock which I am keen to work. I am also a keen fisherman., Look forward to taking part.
