  1. Good all round lurchers i,ve had several over the years and they are still one of my favourite crosses.
  2. yes i am north west and there are very few rabbits but lots of hares.
  3. Looks a handy little dog, have you any better pics.??
  4. clowns owning lurchers has been a problem since god was a lad and unfortunately there is not a lot you can do about that. Or is there.????????? maybe if people breeding a litter of pups where more selective in thier choice of prospective owners then perhaps there wouldnt be so many dogs that "didnt make the grade". I have owned lurchers for over 35 years and only breed when i need to replace my current working stock. I never sell pups, i prefer to give them to friends and associates who will give the pup every chance to prosper, some members on here have pups from my last litte
  5. If a dog does not make the grade required of it then it should be put down for the following reasons, (A) It saves the unfortunate dog the stress etc of being passed from home to home. ( It prevents unscrupulous individuals breeding from inferior stock thereby strengthening the lurcher gene pool as a whole. © It costs the same amount of money, time and effort to keep a good dog as it does to keep a bad one.
  6. nice little dog how is it bred.?
  7. i only live a mile or so of him ..his wake was in my local ...did you go .....????what cross are you running now ian you have a pm.!!!!!
  8. are you talking about RL....????if so hes had some decent stuff through his kennels ... thumbs.gif yes i am, he has had a few pups off me over the years.
  9. It all depends on the type of land you run them on. A recently deceased friend of mine who lived near to colne would not run them at night as it was just to easy, small fields, stone walls nowhere to go. Yet where i live they are very difficult, open country, sparse hedging, long slips all make it difficult which i like, its good sport and when the dog catches it has done well to achieve its aim. A dog must be very fast here, good on the turn with a good mouth with enough wind to keep at it. I have seen good fen dogs and good daytime single handed dogs run hares at night here and they couldnt
  10. Thanks chaps some good info there.
  11. The reflector may not stand the extra heat generated by a bulb with twice the output.
  12. there are some with filaments vertical and some horizontal do you know what the difference is.
  13. does any one know where to get proper replacement bulbs for a 240 blitz and a clulite lazerlite. there are different types available from different sources and i dont know which are the correct ones, Can anyone shed any light on the matter
  14. I wonder which rescue centre it will end up in Sadly i think its either a pet home or a one way trip to the vets.!!
  15. To be honest it sounds as though you have sickened the young dog and i very much doubt he will come round even after a lay off. Once a dog gets it into its head that it can pull up or not chase if it doesnt suit then the situation just gets worse usually.
  16. Hope it mends soon, pain in the a**e when things like that happen.
  17. she is bred out of the grandaughter of seagull and geoffs dog Duke.
  18. I decided to give one of my pups 1/2 hour with the lamp tonight so i took Daisy. She has only had one run previous and that was with her mother last fri night just to get her to know its ok to chase. Anyhow she ran two tonight and all but caught them then she ran a third and absolutely paralysed it, a nice big buck to. She is 91/2 months old. Daisy.
  19. depends on how they are bred and what they will be used for but remember most of the old (preban) match dogs where bred best to best regardless of what was in them.
  20. you know how she is bred so the chances are pretty much in my favour i would have thought.
  21. Duckwing, i know exactly what you mean rearing your own pups, i allways do the same but i just thought i would give the little bitch a try. Speaking of running your own pups on these are mine 91/2 months old i will be running them next winter.
  22. Well it would seem the general concensus is that the bull brings gameness, intelligence and stamina. I must have been unlucky in the one i had and the others i have seen. Duckwing, no i am not looking at this purely from a daytime, hare, big field scenario far from it. The field sizes where i live vary enormously from 2 or 3 acres to one which is 100 acres but most common are between 20 to 40. However i do need a very fast dog which can get there and do something with my chosen quarry before it dissapears, even with the lamp. Last year i did try another bull cross, she was bred 7/8 g
  23. i,ve used a blitz for the past 5 or 6 years with no problems at all.
