It all depends on the type of land you run them on. A recently deceased friend of mine who lived near to colne would not run them at night as it was just to easy, small fields, stone walls nowhere to go. Yet where i live they are very difficult, open country, sparse hedging, long slips all make it difficult which i like, its good sport and when the dog catches it has done well to achieve its aim. A dog must be very fast here, good on the turn with a good mouth with enough wind to keep at it. I have seen good fen dogs and good daytime single handed dogs run hares at night here and they couldnt
