It was a lovely chase that ended with the humane dispatch of a wounded fox.That is a cracking lurcher you have there plenty more work for him in the coming season and you and him will always be made to feel welcome .

what do ou use now then patterdales? I like a good dog of any breeding but the right strain/type/line of patterdale or border suits me personaly the best.

I like reading back copys of edrd always full of intresting info and observations on most types of hunting dogs but especialy lurchers and terriers

My 1st terrier was a Lakeland X Russel it was a good all round dog bushing ferreting bolting foxes or mixing it and killing some if they didnt bolt but now looking back over a number of terriers I would have to say I would prefer to rely on the better line pure bred types than on a cross jmho

There dogs,animals,not machines they deserve to be given a chance or 2.No 2 earths are the same it is very unlikely that a terrier will regularly meet foxes in exactly the same conditions and it is quite unlikely that every fox big or small will act exactly the same as other foxes the terrier has met.So it needs to learn .How many driving lessons did you have to pass your test and even then did you pass it 1st time. Maybe a silly comparison but Ive seen to many slow starters turn into good working dogs to give up to soon.Ime not saying you should go on forever but one dig just isnt enough to

Bull x greyhound seen quite a few they have the size weight and gameness to get the job done.Right or wrong I always liked to have a bullx on a dig versatile enough to stop bolters and mark occupied earths and to be honest they would make the diggers lives and the terriers lives a lot easier at the end of a dig.To me they were another asset to the digging team politics and laws come and go but like others who have answered this thread my appreciation for game dogs is here for good. Metal pipes will hold foxes, if as already stated positioned correctly.reading some o fthe above posts I wonder how much work a terrier would get if all earths have to pass there health and safety assesment lol, every earth is potentialy dangerous to a terrier, live with it ,its one of the reasons they deserve admiration jmho

Next time you see a badger dead on the road, if its in reasonable condition, have a good look at it feel its coat and skin feel the weight of it inspect the front legs feet and claws have a good look at its powerfull neck strong head and feel its jaw then make your own mind up.

What a bunch of dicks by the sounds of it these pups are the real deal and by the photos you can see that no expense has been spared on the rearing a well bred terrier is worth its weight in gold.

Used to post pics under kane or postie she is from the same blood as the black dog in those threads,will get ratkilla to get some pics of the bitch next time out as for the locator lurcher almost all dogs that get out a bit soon learn the score.

Ime not to keen on summer time hunting a bit of bushing to keep the dogs fit is just about excusable but the killing of foxes outside of the winter months just doesnt turn me on and i think its just to easy, to conveniant even to use the excuse of pest control.having said that myself and ratkilla chose to look over some new permission early one evening last week,he had his proven lurcher and a handy terrier with him,me i had my patt bitch that was not showing a great deal of promise though her nose seemed to immprove along with her confidence with every walk and she had started to assosciate r

The most immportant thing is does the lakeland kill foxes regularly to ground if he does that then breed from him you cant ask for much more if he aint killing foxes regularly to ground then find a stud that is.Undershot lol bit of fault to rossette hunters lol.

Amongst the bolting baying type a bitch is at an advantage but when you are wanting to dig to or kill foxes a bitch is up against it i expect the bitches in this thread that do well as game bitches are probably up a bit in size,game doggie bitches there the ones to breed from JMHO.In the rough and tumble size does definatly matter.
