OK, what's your HMR? For light 223 for field foxing use, there are a great many contenders. The main ones, summarised: CZ 527 American - Good rifle, recently introduced synthetic version. Somewhat old technology but generally very accurate. Detachable magazine and would fit the bill nicely, although I always seem to dismiss them for some reason... Can be ordered ready screwcut in 1/2" UNF Browning A Bolt - Good rifle, sensible price (Ditch, I dunno how much that one was you saw, I found em for 500 squid not so long ago which was about right next to the others). Haven't shot one but

Any chance you could please post a picture? I can't see anything that looks hopeful but I want to make sure I'm not being thick! Cheers muchly

I bought a Lightforce 170, meant to be with the dimmer, for which I paid additional cash and not insignificant amount... I know some folks on here have the one with the dimmer - is it an add-on, or integral to the lamp. I.e. if I use this with the on/off before I get the dimmer sorted, can I just get the dimmer sent out separately and then tack it on, or do I need to send the whole lot back? Cheers muchly

If I lived in a sensibly-sized house then I would go that route, it's my preferred choice. Since I don't, I'm a bit stuck... Mounts on rifle, just need to test it now...

Silly question which I'm surprised nobody has asked you yet... what are you shooting with the 223? BTW it's not an 'upgrade' - they are different tools for different jobs. I have plenty of times when the 223 is too much gun and if I was stuck with it I would have hardly any safe shots. HMR is a useful tool because it's relatively flat and packs enough punch to get the job done. BUT it breaks up on anything so it's great for relatively urban use. 223 is much more powerful and will go much further, as well as being considerably louder. So ... keep the HMR AND get 223 :-) Recommendati

SOUND MODERATORS LEGAL SAFE KEEPING?
Mr_Logic replied to JOE BLOCKY's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hmmm... I'm not sure I agree with this. It is definitely arguable that you should lock it up as it's on-ticket. BUT ... air rifle silencers obviously don't. Now, all my moderators are down as unmarked, unnumbered. So, who's to say which goes with which rifle? My mods often do more than one, and anything 1/2 UNF does go on the air rifle as well. To my mind, the moderator becomes section 1 when used on your rifle, and as such the entry on your ticket merely means you've bought one. It's a massive grey area AFAIK, and since I don't have space for the moderators, they live on a shelf above. Th -
Just to get this off my chest
Mr_Logic replied to whippeter94's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Nah, you can have an FAC at 14 but you can't have an air rifle till you're 18... Go figure. Anyway, whippeter/guevara/etc please just f*** off, we're fed up with you, you really are a gobby little tw*t. Chavs like you need to be shipped off somewhere to learn some respect for other people. -
Cool Sounds promising. I have a set on my 10/22, unbeknownst to me, so I will test the theory this evening...

Moderators... well, ASE Jet-Z or the Atec range. Had a look at them at CLA, and they are much smaller and a bit lighter than a Predator8. Bit more money but worth it.

I've got a cabinet full of guns now However, with all the scopes they don't fit very well and it's a nightmare carefully positioning them all to get them in the cabinet. I've removed the scope from my Howa (needs to be improved - I went to the Zeiss stand at the CLA and Richter Optik just don't cut it!!), and straight away it fits brilliantly. This got me thinking - Weaver mounts should in theory return a perfect zero every time because they return to the same point on the base every time, by virtue of the cross bar. So, in theory, I can get quick release rings and weaver bases for al

It's perfectly fair and reasonable. I have 1200 hold, 1000 buy on my ticket for 223 so 300/200 is absolutely fine. Trappa, you should look at getting that increased, 100 rounds is sod all and means you can't guarantee supply. I get through 100 in a day at Bisley, and since I shoot rabbits with the 223 as well, a fair old few in the field as well.

I have one sat on my gun cabinet doing f*** all... It's missing one bit that keeps the bottom plate on, but I have found sticky tape does a very good job indeed. Where are you located?

Simple explainaition..... Bullet leaves barrel rotating and gasses leap out of the barrel causing muzzle flip (commonly upwards) or twisting the barrel, a correctly made and fitted muzzle break directs blast gasses out evenly, up down, sideways to prevent/reduce this flip effect and make the shot more accurate. Also tends to reduce muzzle flash, not as well as a flash guard, and can actually look incredible at night..but so do most rifles/shotguns...just let go a 12g at night and it will look like a flame thrower!! The muzzle break really showed it's worth shortly after the introduction

My Falcon is optically superior to the MTC. It has bigger turrets which don't lock but which do give repeatable adjustments and can be reset. The MTC's reticle is less cluttered, personally I think it's better than the MP20 I have in the Falcon. BUT, Falcon's low light performance is streets ahead, and I can actually use maximum magnification. For me, Falcon over MTC, apart from if I were to get the Mamba, with its low-profile turrets.

I think this is a very emotive issue, mainly because if you stop and think of the consequences and how you'd feel, it's quite scary. So we tend to make a strong point about it so as to avoid all uncertainty. Don't they say that true psychopaths tend to be coldly calm in such situations? IIRC, then I'll take a bit of emotion!

It is a perfectly legal calibre, bolt actions are available for it. Like everything except .22RF, .50 cal semi auto rifles are Section 5.

I don't buy that, not one bit. hornady is a reputable manufacturer. That said, have you tried another make to see if there is a difference? I've had a similar problem with Barnaul, and it's continued since I used Barnaul in my Remington. I will be cleaning things this eve, hopefully all will then be well as I've seen it happen before with that cheap stuff. Shouldn't be happening with Hornady though.

Sorry mate, I missed the original post if there was one. What's the gun and what's the problem with it?

THE golden rule - if you can't definitely identify the target, DO NOT fire. I adhere to that even when my gut and instincts and everything tell me it's a fox, if I can't see head or ears - something - that marks it 100% as charlie, then it can escape. I NEVER, EVER want to have to explain to someone why I shot their cat/dog/horse/husband, tbh I'm not sure I could do that. In terms of identification for a stalk. Well, it's mostly gut feel so the more you do it, the more you learn. Basic guidelines Fox = orange eyes, occasionally green depending on the angle. Tends to blink. Also ve

Falcon 4.5-18x56. Mine has reliable adjustments and good optics. MTC has pretty good optics too but the adjustments on mine weren't great. The Falcon is 200 from opticswarehouse and allows you to zero for the 22, make a note of it, and then zero for the HMR.
-
I can't comment on the Sweet 17, but I had a look through their 8-32 x44 the other day and I wasn't impressed. My Nikko has better optics. For the money, I'd go Nikko or Hawke. However, I'd spend more money on better optics, without as much magnification. What will you use the 32x for?
-
Falcons do come illuminated for an extra 20 quid from Opticswarehouse, mine has red or green.
-
Agreed. Not being funny, but who wants a cheap copy of a cheap rifle?! CZs aren't that much to start with - £250 buys you a brand.new one - and they're high quality, though basic, rifles. Stick with the real thing.
-
MTC are OK, I've just got a Falcon Optics 4.5-18x56 which is as good or better than the MTC in terms of optics and repeatability of adjustments. You could try the Falcon 7.5x50 for an air rifle - plenty of magnification for rabbiting at those ranges, mil dot ret, repeatable adjustments and good optics.
