  1. Was hoping someone may be able to offer an opinion on the correct amount of excercise that a JRT pup (4 month old) should be receiveing? Currently the dog will have perhaps a short 5 - 10 minute walk early and late for his business followed by a longer (anywhere between) 1 - 3 hour walk in the afternoon. The longer walks can consist of constant walking or shorter distances allowing the dog to run around the woods on his own generally mooching his surroundings. He also gets to run around with the kids etc in the house/garden. The reason I ask is the pup will 9/10 always be tired after h
  2. My little Russell pup can't get enough rabbit at the minute, he loves the stuff. Even turns his nose up at his other food sometimes. Nice big portion of chicken went down well yesterday and other than that he likes minced beef. I tend to give a handfull of complete meal in now and again as a mixer as well as the odd egg or two. He is looking good for his age and the vet commented on his condition last week when we took him down for his advocate.
  3. Any idea on her forum name fella? This thread should come complete with tumbleweed....
  4. Tried posting this in the days out offered/wanted but no prefix available so can't post it up but... Lads, Was hoping I could get someone who could take me and my lad and our JRT out for a spot of ratting. Really looking for someone who could offer advice and some exposure for my pup, although I think he is a bit young yet. Generally point us in the right direction on ALL aspects of ratting, including care of the dog in case of bites etc. PM me and offers/advice please. All knowledge etc gladly received.
  5. Proper. Jenky told us before going out he never claimed to be some sort of expert but he would show us what he could. Well he showed us plenty alright, and my lad ending up getting involved in everything (really surprised me and left me more than a little proud - check out that avatar). Thing is he was never pushed or rushed into anything and the whole day was just class. Hope to have a lot more days/nights out soon lads.
  6. Just wanted to say a massive thanks to RapidJenky and his mate for a great day out yesterday. Being a complete novice to field/country sports and my boy taking a huge interest in them as late Jenky took us both out yesterday on his permissions and showed us more than a few pointers. Really cant praise them enough, proper genuine lads. My boy was buzzing (so was I) for ages after and had an awesome day out. Thanks bud, I owe you one.
  7. Coming on 15 weeks now... Some big changes in the little fella.
  8. Hello fella's. My boy has wanted to get into shooting for a while now, but I've tried to wait until an age where I deem him to be responsible enough to use a weapon properly. At the Raby castle show today he used several rifles and shot very well for a first timer. So we were looking at the possibility of getting him a rifle for xmas. Seeing as I dont have a clue....what would be a good starter rifle for him? He's ten coming up? Thanks for any advice.
  9. Those dogs were scary... Had an awesome day at the show today, loads of crackin' dogs there. Lurcher racing was great. My little lad wants a lurcher but the wife wont heck. She nearly caved in on seeing a blue wippet though. My little pup got a LOT of attention today which I didnt expect because of all the top class dogs there. A lot of people stopped us or came over to see him or just generally pointed him out. I was very proud indeed. He slept all the way home though and is still asleep now after his tea. Bless him he's only 14 weeks.
  10. Stunning animal. Used to have an EBT, very inteligent dog. Very protective as well. Saw this free to a good home on Facebook... EBT x Lurcher
  11. I'm heading down on Sunday with my pup. Be my first time at something like this as I'm a complete newb. Hope to meet a few good people down there and pick up some advice.
  12. Advocate is supposed to cover fleas as well as mange, worms, lung worm and other parasites. Did a bit research before using it on my pup and it gets some great feedback.
  13. It's not a jab it's a spot on type treatment that you rub between the shoulders on the base of the neck. Vet didn't mention renewal times but I'll ask this Friday as I'm down for pups second jab.
  14. Attack I paid £9 for the advocate. It was £2 dearer than pancur which is the other wormer our vet uses. Seemed worth the extra for the fact it's a multiple condition treatment.
  15. Too right. A lot of crap out there or stuff thats been crossed with god knows what. Designer dogs have a lot to answer for.
  16. Got my first Russell pup last Thursday, 10 weeks old and just settled in. He's a balshy little fella and is into everything. Has already started digging the garden. Very obediant and since we have had him and changed his diet he has lost a bit of his puppy belly. He's a pretty chunky little chap as well. He's bred from a couple of local farm/ratting dogs and is from a litter that was by far the best we saw. Proper pups, chunky and curious, bit of front on them and no fear.
  17. Thanks Mick thats good to hear, found some good feedback on a few forums for it now. Aparently ferrett owners like it as well Glad my little fella is gonna be covered and safe.
  18. Check out slingshotforum.com fella. Plenty of bids and advice on there.
  19. Just got my new pup last night and had him to the vets tonight for his first jab, worm and general check over. Vet recommended Advocate wormer which is a spot on type treatment which not only covers worms but fleas, mange, lung/heart worm and ear mites. After reading some of the worming warnings though I wanted to ask if anyone else has used this product and would they recommend it? Cheers in advance for any info.
  20. No. I use the forum as a resource of info which without I wouldn't of been savvy to. Things such as dog diet, selecting a terrier, history of breeds etc. As yet I have done zero hunting , although now I have my first terrier arriving tomorrow, ratting (yeah I know, not real sport) is something I'd love to be able to get into (any offers greatly accepted ). For the simple reason of using the dog for what is was intended to do. If the forum was closed or you needed verification I would lose a valuable resource. The info I've gained on BARF and medications for dogs etc wouldn't
