And old friend.old man he's passed on now.used to do alot with apbt around the country.I'm not exercising my dogs any were near the condition that his dogs were in.feck a little trot on the bike they are having mun lol.
-
The 6 Mile jog by the side of the bike doesent take long at all to be honest neil.flat lanes the distance is soon covered. Then the dogs are in the yard in the day. And either up the woods up the road or over the estate fields were the lurcher and bushing terrier have an hour or 2 bushing. bitch border x jrt has gone under a few times but can be called back out. But the pat is kept on the lead as the keeper is keen on the gun apparently so I don't want him to ground with a keeper about.

Well the way I see it is the fox is fit as fit as he's gonna be trotting all night every night. When my dog is going under he's going to be as fit as I can get him I've then done my part getting him fit and strong in body and mind. It's up to him then. And I enjoy conditioning my dogs. But each to there own I suppose.

That's a good honest reply, exactly what should be said, they don't have to be an Olympic champion but it wouldn't harm either way. Most digs truth be known are over and done within half an hour to a couple of hours. If you get enough work they'll soon be fit and well to take everything in their stride. They should NEVER get to a state where they're morbidly obese, so I can't see what all the fuss is about, if it helps you sleep at night CRACK ON Well I've got 2 choices get out with the dogs getting them fit.Or sit on the couch watching that Jeremy kyle buggering them folk in hospital l

Well it seems I'm wasting my time exercising terriers then lol.

It's not the 70 and year olds I'd worry about, they've all day to spend on their yard or walking and talking to the dogs.. A lot of those boys are hardy men that take huge pride in their stock. They walked a few miles to school walked home and went hunting, walked out to hunt with hounds, followed on foot and walked home again. I've never seen one with 30 working dogs on their yard. But I don't go to many yards either. I'd worry more about the guys that have come into this with no background in hounds or hunting or keeping stock or even sport. Who've no idea what it is to be fit. They're

You don't have to believe a word I say jiggy. But I've never been 1 for lying. I threw a well paid job in 3yrs 3 weeks ago. Due to the wife struggling with our 2 disabled kids. So I've got plenty of time for the dogs in the daytime or night. One day I will have to go back to work. And I will be wishing I wasn't working. 8 to 10 miles a day I was walking the dogs they were free running when I was living in Wales up the mountain over heather ground forestry etc. Every single day no matter the weather. On very rainy days I would stick to the forestry roads for a little shelter. And wish

I wonder how many dogs have walked through lack of fitness if the dog is blowing out of his arse.he surely will lack heart once the dog is exhausted.. Had plenty them quit and it wasn't through lack of fitness let me tell ya. And I'v seen enough dug were the most exercise they got was the amount of work they got They had plenty heart. So fitness doesent matter much do you think Chesney.I'm not after an argument just interested in how you rate the dogs being fit.against unfit.
-
I haven't mentioned a treadmill. What if someone has 10 terriers in the kennels. At a push could walk 4 a time so that's all day spent walking the dogs. I think a push bike or treadmill would be a great help if you've got a good few dogs on the yard.

But surely being over fit is better than under fit 100% of the time.
-
I do let them free run when out on walks etc.But find that the bike does help a fair bit. Getting the heart rate up and maintaining it for a while. Just seems to be not much mentioned on fitness etc.

I'm sure I've read or seen that on tv before jiggy about the thinner branch's.Have you seen many pine Martins about mate.
-
Can't be watching that beheading video. I remember a mate put a vhs tape on yrs ago full of that kind of stuff. They threw a guy in a shallow hole and all lined up walking past him throwing big boulders at his head. Don't like watching that kind of stuff.
-
You are lucky to see the reds mate.I'm coming to the conclusion now that I've probably never seen a red now in the flesh. As socks was brought up in the next valley to me and he didn't see any as a kid.
-
Getting terriers fit isn't really a topic that's mentioned at all on here. And neither is diet.i haven't bought a tin of dog food for over 20yrs only raw diet the dogs get I'm biking my bull x 6 Miles a day on country lanes. I hardly turn a pedal he pulls me there and back. The terrier is also biked 6 miles a day. Then 2 Mile walk in the evening. I've allways enjoyed getting the dogs fit. And can't wait for the temp to start dropping in August to really get the fitness levels up. What's your methods of getting your terriers fit. For the coming season. I know there's lads out there who

Looking good mate. He's up on the leg.

I think it was lolo was up in Anglesey showing the reds mate. Amazing colour on them. Shame the greys took over. There's some good populations about the place by the sounds of it though. Is there many forestry blocks up on the mountains fuji.
-
And I think you are a few yrs older than me socks. It must of been greys I seen as a kid then. Can remeber the empty hazel nut shells with a neat hole. On top of some tree stumps.and as a kid couldn't get my head around how they done it lol.
-
I'm 41 I'm not 100% the memory is a bit foggy thinking back that far. I'm not sure releasing the reds will be any good with the greys still about I.might be wrong though mate.
-
I'm sure 30yrs ago I used to see them regular in the little woods in s.wales in the village.i was only 10yr old then.but I'm not 100% certain. Would the reds have been around your own woods 30yrs ago. Or have the greys been over here alot longer than 30yrs. And driven the reds out.

Sorry to hear that FD.nowt wrong with shedding a tear for a dog. We've all done that.no matter how hard a man we think we are. She's done you proud over the years by the sounds of it. All the best king...
