The only reason a HH doesnt "float my boat" is due to there main quarry being rabbit, as i said ive seen thousands of rabbits taken with a lurcher and my main interest is featherd quarry, hence why i am opting for a Gos, im wanting to fly it at featherd game.

i hear what you are saying mate, but my heart is not in a HH or a redtail, so i dont think it would be fair on the bird, i have some good mentors to call upon and i am willing to put a lot of time and effort into the bird, its not a decision i have taken lightly or come to quickly, but to get the best out of a gos you need to fly it regulary and have game to fly it at, i am willing and have both, i really dont want to get into a debate about it on a public forum but needless to say i have discussed it thouroughly with a lot of experianced falconers.

i sure am mate, i have though been flying my mates/mentors bird with him for the past 3 season and HH,s just dont float my boat, given the choice of starting out with a harris or nothing it would be the later, i run a lurcher and have taken hundereds of rabbits they just dont float my boat. I am part of a small syndicate who put down 500 phessies each year and have 3 flight ponds and live in an area overrun with rabbits so quarry isnt a problem/issue, myself and my mentor are also putting down 100 partdrige. im planning building some new mews/weathering in the next week or so and im looking for insparation and whats best, it will be housing a parent reared gos. It will have to be pest and pet proof so security is an issue. thanks in advance. TJ

also the most important thing in smoking fish is the pre smoke brine, basically cover it in salt for half an hour, this enables the smoke to penetrate the fish better.

Is it best to burn off the powder coating from the cabinet 1st mate.........will that not effect the flavour? it shouldnt do the one i have, i have never bothered doing it, you run it a few times and it gets coated in soot anyway so it doesnt effect it. plus if your doing a cold smoke on trout or salmon the temp is not so hot that it could burn/melt the paint, the cabinet i used is about 4 foot high and 3 foot wide.

the best ones are old metal filling cabinets, cut a hole in the roof for the smoke to get out of and that it, all you need is wood chips and a product to smoke. feckin brilliant idea buy a small gas canister to get the chips going, much easier than other methods. drill holes across the sides and thread wire through holes so you have a shelf or haging facillity, and you have a smoker for nowt. if smoke comes out of the doors then selotape them when shut.
