Farmer round our way got one, worst of all before he got it he got a demonstration from the company selling them, walked straight up to the burrow(now this was lifting with rabbits there is no way you wouldnt see 40-50 rabbits running around the warren) and blasted the feck out of it, in full knowledge it was occupied, now if the companies selling them are demonstrating them in this way, there is not a lot of hope that farmers will use them in the correct manner. Just like to add three weeks later i peg snared around this warren on the outlying runs and picked off 26, so i dont even think th

I know everyone is different but i realy dont like the look of the traps with the extra bits on top to help setting them, i have to set in amongst sheep and get a few kicked out, but with an extra bit sticking up it just makes the trap a bigger target so to speak, the ones i saw Chalkwarren post up originally didnt have those loops on them did they?. P.S Chalkwarren if im right and you are now changing to the looped ones, ill buy some of the others off you at a reasonable price

Rabbit flu?!?
nighttimenellie replied to ROB.BOB's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Didnt a farmer die from rabbit flu a couple of years back?, very rare for it to transfer to humans it said at the time, but it obviously does exist -
What digital camera
nighttimenellie replied to SNAP SHOT's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
A little bit of an obsession for me cameras, well dslr cameras, this is how id rate them Nikon d40, was an excellent camera in its day but its only 6 megapixels, and dslrs have moved on quite a bit for not too much more money, olympus are decent but the lenses are extortionate, higher end nikons d60, 70,(10 and 12 megapixels , 3 frames per second i think) are good cameras, as is the canon eos450d,(cant see the point in the eos 1000d, muche less of a camera for not alot less money)it has a cmos sensor which i found to be a bit rough in the first one i owned but got another from Jessops and it i -
Have been told in the past that where i live now Cumbria, is derived from the welsh language as in Cymbra (please excuse spelling) dont know how true that is but it sounds about right. Isnt the word England named after the Angols? as in angolland a germanic tribe? it would explain the queens heritage lol.

Congrats to Bruce, and unlucky to the other dog in the final(dont know its name sorry) -
The old saying you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear springs to mind, if your dogs shit or even average no amount of training or work will make it a good un,or as good as a natural talent, cant each intelligence, cant teach running style, cant teach a strike, cant teach stamina, but practice and experience which after all is all that work is, can improve on all of the qualities mentioned but and its a big but, only if the dog has them in the first place, so what exactly can an owner do?, give it plenty of work and thats that, if its in the dog it will do it if its not it wont, so ill s

To me Mark seems a right cockend, even though he speaks highly of me , but the last thing i would want is if he won for it to be taken down off the site, that just wouldnt be right, he seems to own a half decent dog and if it wins fair play to it, its not the dogs fault , and if you dont like him thats fair enough but the praise lies with the dog, as i am sure it will be that and not either owner that runs and catches the rabbits on the night, and at the end of it all its only a daft rabbiting competion, and appart from Tomo and marks heat, if you add up all the rabbits caught in every other

what a great topic, the blitz and striker are probably the best designed lamps around in my opinion but with the worst build quality, and the price is a joke for what you get. i dont know how they get away with it, but they are still not as good as the old colemans . I havent got a clue if this would work but if you need a gate light on the striker can you not turn the head untill its at its maximum spreadiness and the beam will be that diffused it will be like a small light, as long as its kept pointed at the ground it might work(i dont own one so someone will have to try this out .

There are to many variables in the competition, folk not running till they get a sitter, not counting runs because their dog didnt get on terms with rabbits, killing sheep and wanting it to count as 10 rabbits or something like that(only joking) but the comp does need sorting to make it fairer, why not make it first to 15 then time or misses dont realy matter as long as you get to 15 before your opponent(surely everyone can find 30 rabbits to have a go at or even first to 10, but not a time limit thing unless its limitless and you just run till the dogs have had enough which might even be fair

Hound dog whoever told you the breeding of your pup has got it wrong, on the sire side Jack does not appear, your pups grandsire was a dog called lad (Bulpa x greyhound) which makes your pups grandsire a half Minshaw , now lad went over another bitch with a bit of minshaw and a bit of deerhound and a bit of collie i think in her, and the pups were sold as 5/8th , 3/8ths minshaw(at the very most), now how do i know this?, well i have a dog from the same litter, on your dams side im sure she was saluki/grey, (or was she the result of Jackxsalukigrey? not sure) either way you either dont have wh

Do Moles Get "Trap Shy"?
nighttimenellie replied to Steve Albano's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
It wasnt that i was going to change traps more that a change in trap type might be usefull if you have missed one a couple of times with one type , a change to another might fool it(not the right term but i cant think how to put it) -
I have not laughed like that for years, yous can get your own feckin mince this time lol.

Do Moles Get "Trap Shy"?
nighttimenellie replied to Steve Albano's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
i havent got a clue if they can be trap shy, but i have had the odd one that once missed seems to be a bugger to catch, all of the above ideas all seem reasonable statements as to why they get missed, in my case its because im a fecking idiot, but i think its diferent in each case, the question i would like to ask is , if you proper mole lads think a change in type of trap say from HB to talpex or whatever might just get that stubborn mole, or is it just a case of doing it right in the first place. -
Traps from flatpack co. FBC. dont know if they are good bad or indiferent as i have no knowledge of any others but someone who knows more than i ever will said they are ok so thats good enough for me.

Bit busy this week with snares, so didnt think i would get a chance to put traps out, anyway had to lift snares earlier than expected as i lost four to a fox working the line, so i couldnt see the point in feeding it for free so lifted them, anyway on the way home the day before yesterday i went past the farm i had trapped on, and the farmer had chain dragged the field(he had mentioned that he was going to do it just before last weekend) so i stopped nipped over the wall and walked the field just out of curiosity to see how much had come back up(i had taken 13/14 moles out of this field) to my

We have mixie here and the rabbits are crawling with fleas, used to be the cold snaps would at least put a temporary hold to it all, but its bad round this way this year.
-
I must admit Chalkwarren, its not since i first saw a dog catch a rabbit that i have been hooked so strong, and just like then, im fecking hopeless at it, but will keep on keeping on. Do you think the talpex types are a more forgiving trap, as you fill them with soil and that must help to diguise the trap and the smell?
