  2. quote name='barolo' post='597792' date='Jul 22 2008, 10:43 AM']i think it is good to know how your dogs are bred, and the fact that the name SMITH keeps coming up is because there is fellas out ther wanting to know about the history of their dogs, they are called working terrier enthusiasts. I bet you know the history of your chosen breed Lakeman. really???? ....enlighten me! with regard to my 'name', it's mick, 'lakeman' because there is al ready a mick on here. and if it's after a type, why 'black and tan'? i keep and work lakies and blacks/fell types... felltype had gone aswell.
  3. don't want to get into anyones argument, but............. as iv'e said before and as someone has mentioned on here, why are dogs of 25 years ago still held in such high regard? ''the emperors new clothes'' springs to mind. i'm not saying that they were not good dogs, but how many hundreds, if not thousands of dogs CLAIM to be Sparticus or Smithy bred??

  14. HH's are capable of being S.A.S birds (saturdays and sundays). like i say, far easier to control than a smaller bird. and, if you decide to take it further and are confident enough to cut his weight, get if fit and put the time in, you can have almost as much fun as with a gos'. in my opinion, a lot of HH's are flown a couple of ounces OVER weight. get them fit and sharp set (my last male flew at 1lb 5 3/4oz and was a rocket!!) and you will catch a wider range of quarry and have some great sport..
  15. kestrels , although a nice bird, servre no purpose as a falconry bird. and spa's are DEFFINATLY not a beginers bird.(your margin for error with weight control with a bird of 230 GRAMS is minimal compared to one of 1lb/2lb) start with a HH or similar. and learn as much as you can about husbandry first (the BFC have an apprenticeship scheme) . also look at doing a course at a local falconry center or travel if need be (LANTRA now do a falconry course). this is not a sport to go into blind. you should also look at what land you have access to and what your quarry species will be (and a game li

  21. IMO they are great little dogs.. not as 'hard' as some. but more than capable of killing their quarry as long as your prepared to dig, their fine....
