  4. You from s wales no... sunny 'south east'
  5. i judged ''the cock o' the north'' two years back with J.P... what a nice propper old timer he is. can't speak for his dogs, but if he is anything to go by...
  6. shane.. another question springs to mind.... would you consider your old man as a good terrier man? and, if so, why would he keep a line he is dissatisfied with???
  7. ive seen many of a dog showing great promise when young then spew it. what do you do lakeman if you breed off a bitch of 2 1/2 then she spews it after she has the pups ??? test your dog to it fails ? the good ones dont fail - they die ! fortunatly that has not happened to me... so you would say EVERY one of your dogs has died at graft......impressive
  8. as long as they do what i want, when i want... i see NO reason to breed from a dog of 2 1/2 or 3. the best bitch i ever had died at 7 and i only bred of her once. if you have a dog showing great promise, why not ??? someone said ''........test your dog 'till it fails...'' if the dog fails does that mean not to breed from it or just that it has been pushed too far????
  9. yes lets see it. We all know that it is mostly showmen who keep these lines, and before you start my old man has had Ward/Middleton lines for yrs, and he is first to say that there is better working lines out there. He has had one or two not bad terriers on fox but no great digging ones from his Lakies, though they are of the type he likes, and he has tried to improve them work wise, is that not what its all about..(he also keeps a couple of pats as well wich he rates as better workers) dogs of 20 yrs ago Lakeman,, if you dont think it maters why post to another member on here that you w
  10. Every dog in every line is important ,dogs of 20 years are only as important as the dogs you have breed and tested and culled from them ,you can breed dogs down from the best in the world but if you dont test and cull them ruthlessly you will still end up with nothing ,its the dogs that are in your kennel today that matter ,to many still shouting about dogs of yesteryear and clinging on to NAMES for the £££££££££££. totally agree... sorry lads i think that my last comment was taken out of context. as long as you don't hold dogs that apear in your lines of yesteryear i
  11. the likes of middleton and a lot of 'old timers' DID have good diggin stuff years ago (not to say they have now??) which leads to onother thread on here... how important are dogs of 20 years ago in your lines??????? i.e Smithy, sparticus etc.. G.Ward... another one, got a bad name now for ''show dogs'', yet he has been there, seen it, done it. But not had a dog for 10 years now
  12. i agree in the most part with what you say, however i had a bitch a few years back, heart of a lion but small in stature. great fox bitch but struggled in bigger places.. i think you have to also take into account ths size of the earth. if it's a big rangey place and the dog has trouble bottling-up, it gives the quarry the advantage (i know they're old photo's but she's been dead 2 years now )
  13. took a bitch up to lincoln digging with a friend of mine, entered her in a 'big place'... after a very short time she bolted a fox (?) out. she had bullied it to the extent charlie thought.... ''fcuk this' and had it away. A vixen with cubs however is a different story. some quarry bolt, some stay firm. as long as your dog does its job then thats good enough in my eyes
  14. no worries mate.. off to the hospital today to see about op on my shouler
  15. for me, a bayer and stayer... not a fan of over hard dogs, particularly in this day and age. but i like a dog to sound and mix it when needed, but is not layed up sore for two weeks at a time those of you who remember 'Davie', hell of a dog in his day, but once a fortnight... (he's the red dog on the right)
  16. coming on nice kris... soon as i'm back to some kind of normality we'll have a look out. ring you later mate
  17. got to say though....if someone offered me £1,000 for one of mine, it'd have to go!!! and be honest, so would most on here.... i'm not slagging Brian off in any way, but he has sent dogs to the states (as have i) and over there their red fox is smaller than ours, therefore they require a smaller 'type' dog, so to that extent brian Is breeding for his market.. pocket fella!!!!!!!!!!! how you doing??????????? i'll give you a call
  18. goes back a fair way, back to rex(1), red judy and judy (border) but many generations ago.... as well as Middleton's Tanner, Ward's pipper and Ward's Vandal,.......... Tyson's Mocky is in there too
