Just having the crack mate, but seriously though, I can't believe the Welsh accepted that name, especially if they knew that it basically meant "foreigner/stranger" to the Anglo Saxons. Brits/Britons would have been more fitting.

I kind of agree about Christianity, I'm not really religious at all but I can acknowledge the unity it brings. Britain is now more secular than it has ever been and for national identity this is a terrible thing IMO.

Well that is factually incorrect, the Angles and the Saxons didn't originate in the British Isles.

AJ is known as a British HW champion, not a Nigerian HW champion. But at some point, if you're English your ancestors did just that, they weren't born here, the Celts were here before us. How can we label ourselves as Brits then? Where is the dividing line?

The British Isles have got a deep and rich history, but it's seldom been united & peaceful. Many of the Scots & Welsh would scoff at the suggestion of calling them British, it's not as clear cut as we think.

Interesting start. So according to your logic, people like Frank Bruno, Nigel Benn, Linford Christie could never be classed as British? Even the most ardent of patriots have sang the national anthem whilst celebrating people like these individuals.

I know any chance of a sensible discussion on this matters is about as possible as rocking horse shit but here goes. In people's opinion, what makes us British? Is it ethnicity, culture, geography? What defines us as British, or if you want to get in to finer detail, English?

I don't share your optimism, Farage is a shill and a hypocrite. It's a little ironic, Farage spends a lot of his time Muslim bashing and trying to get the anti-Muslim vote but he's happy to take their backhanders. As for the chairman, I agree, he's just another rich banker, a grifter, just like Farage.
