I like woodcock and pigeon combined an easy way to get woodcock is to walk on the roads throgh forestry at dusk they fly by the road a lot they call this roading but the best bit is they give you a little whistle about a hundrd yards away from you as they see you giving you plenty of time to take em out they also croak as they fly directly over you

There used to be a group of travellers in nottinghamshire that we used to call on now and again that kept a strain of terriers for catching and retrieving hedgehogs black and tan and looked like yorkie crosses theese dogs bred true to type and were used for nothing else and their owners did eat hedgepigs ive sat by the fire and shared hedgehog with em and pigs trotters all baked in clay and when i asked if they gutted em before they baked em the old man sid said course we do.

Ive seen a lot of bedlington crosses over the years and apart from the fact that the dogs can be a bit deaf at times especially if theres a bitch about i think they are well capable the best of these were three quater greyhound a cross that their aught to be more of in my opinion

The sighthound blood gives the hunting ability ive seen greyhounds that were as good as most lurchers and as game i think kye is right exposure to watever you are hunting will make them proficient and if you daytime, lamp and ferret the dogs will soon do all three imo the worst thing to do with a lurcher is overtrain it to the point where it not do a thing without looking at you first they should have their own mind i dont overtrain as long as they carry jump and come when called that does me ive seen two dogs in my life that were living wild one for over two years and both these were pure grey

Anyone who has coursed their dogs hard at one time or another will have seen their dogs peeing blood or just stood their dribbling for ages i believe this is due to their kidneys banging when the dogs have this condition i feed em pearl barley in their food about two good handfulls every day just wondered if anyone knows any more about this ? do bitches suffer with this? as i have only everseen this in dogs

let it watch the other dog doing the job on the lamp but only if it can retrieve to hand let it watch 4 or 5 retrieves always showing her the bunny then try her on her own if she dont attempt to pick up then run her doubled up till she starts grabbing em she will soon click and at least when she does i bet she will be well soft mouthed sounds about spot on for her age some have trouble clicking and thats the way of it get her out especially now theres young uns about! Cracking looking bitch

I used to live in derbyshire and the farmer who`s land i lived on used to shoot em even if theyd been put back on the lead he never had any comebacks seen a few pets go that way but i could sympathise with him once went into a field where a rottie had killed 20 sheep then got itself caght in the sheep wire needless to say it got what it deserved its a tough thing when a dog gets into game it shouldnt trouble with sheep is the dogs can smell em from a distance but if your careful where you run[arable etc] no problem

Yeah they work like an air freshner and look the same i used to have a little box in the top of the kennels with holes drilled in so as the dogs didnt eat em an a good cover on the kennel door and 1 stood in the living room never had fleas since there designed to kill all walking and flying insects up to wasp size but as i said i think theyve been withdrawn from sale another firm did them but i cant remember the name at the mo but ive only got two left myself so ill be checking the garden suppliers out i should imagine theres loads of other firms doing these vets use em for ticks on snakes etc
-
soon be flea season wat do you lads use i used to use vapona fly killers not the sticky strips but the slow release chemical ones a vet put me onto them but said not to tell anyone as he made so much money on shampoos etc since using them i never had any problems with any pests trouble is i read a report that they have been taken off the market so im looking for something simmilar just in case

If your dog is biddable enough shouldnt be a problem especially a young un take the offender out on its own or youll soon have em all at it by all means use the electric collar myself if i couldnt do it verbally or with a nip to the ear i would either give it somone who dont mind taking the odd sheep along with the venison or i would give it a lead earing i think myself you have your work cut out as the dog really meant it as opposed to just harrasing it hope you get it sorted its a pain when youve spent time rearing and training. one lad i knew took his bitch muzzled to a crazy goat that live

Good post mate this is something everyone who works their dogs has problems with especially when running over sandy soil the sand gets under the dogs quicks and if their not cleaned properly they soon get sceptic the only answer i find is regular cleaning and regular exercise even if the dogs arent working and good nail care i found the best thing to do with the dogs feet is when you get in from exercise[.work] is first wash with warm soapy water i use a toothbrush to get under the quicks then i dip their feet in surgical spirits they hate this makes their tail stand on end if theres any cuts

I havent seen a lab cross for years there used to be a few about in the seventies one particular dog belonged to a mate of mines brother a threequater greyhound lab it was golden in colour with a brown nose 27 to the shoulder and built like a thick set greyhound this dog was a great lamper but he really excelled at daytime hares on the plough and well capable even on clay he also used him with the cracker at night for the pheasants he could work day or night seven days a week the only fault the dog had was running to anyone who appeared when out with him twice he was fetched back from one of
