I think the main reason for using a little bit of 'self moderation' when you are posting is NOT the antis, and it's NOT the hunters; it's the 'don't knows' and the 'don't cares'. There is a significant number of people out there who don't really give a damn about hunting at the moment. It's just not that important to them. The problem is that our opponents are well organised, and experienced in getting their point across to these people. Just imagine what use they can make with some of the statements and pictures posted on here? If they turn just one of those 'swing voters' over to the

do you use petrol or parafin in the speed dip, and how much do you use? i used the amount of petrol it says on the box, and i`m thinking it got a bit too thin? Most of the yanks use Coleman fluid, which is supposed to be the mutts nuts. I use petrol, following the instructions on the can. You often need to do more than one 'coat' to get them really dark. As Chalky says, boiling in oak bark is also very good.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Fenn traps placed properly in the entrance to burrows are a very effective form of rabbit control.

Speed Dip will dye the traps and help them work faster. Pegs are available, I would contact JohnB if I were you

I'm looking forward to that PM.

Now that I very much doubt. But there we are, anyone can talk on the internet and hint at rubbish. Why not PM me some details about these people who are supposed to know me and my work?? It's all very well coming on here and suggesting that anyone can learn to be a moletrapper just by using google (and I expect that some may be able to do just that), but you've not been at it long yourself, have you? When was it you first started? May 2009? Not even a full season under your belt, and here you are telling everyone who easy it is. And just in case anyone is in any doubt about you
-
Here we go. Same old crap from you then..... You know a few blokes who 'know me well'??????????? Perhaps you could tell me what that is supposed to mean??? Is it a veiled threat of some sort????? Drop me a PM if you like. I'd love to know who these people who know me are, and why I should be worried.

What's the point? Well, if you only did it as a way to buy professional use rodenticides, then I suppose it must be expensive. However, if you did it to demonstrate to your customers that you have a basic knowledge of pest management, and therefore, can offer them a better service than the average wally in pest control, then it's quite cheap. It's also a way of demonstrating your legal obligation to make sure that you are 'competent', so that you can get insurance, and protect yourself from the courts. I understand that it is frustrating that so many 'professional use' baits ar

lol @ Chalky.... As has already been said, the pro trappers are getting a little tired of all the wannabie mole millionaires that keep popping up, so please forgive any reluctance on our part to show you how to take the crust of stale bread from our mouths...... BUT........... I will tell you that if a mole backfills a trap, it's usually for a reason. Think about it.

Gassing rabbits in local area
Matt replied to little nell's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
You are unlikely to find the carcasses of gassed rabbits as they die underground, it's more likely to be RHD or Myxi that is killing them, or even, possibly, someone shooting them. I don't think there is a huge danger from rabbits that have died as a result of Phosphine gassing, but I would keep your dog on a lead and try and avoid any treated areas. What part of the plain is it? Drop me a PM if you prefer. -
united we stand....................and you know what happens when we dont!
Matt replied to fishfish's topic in General Talk
I'd happily put up with that every day of the rest of my life if it stops scum from stealing dogs. I own my micro-chipped dogs, and I've nothing to hide. -

Interesting that no-one on here is commenting on the dog thief issue. If all dogs were identifiable and registered to owners, then surely no-one would steal them? -
No, the old BPCA Diploma Part 2 is now known as 'Advanced Technician'. You can't sit the exam until you have passed the RSPH level 2. The BPCA Diploma Part 1 (Also known as Certificate in Pest Control), and the RSH have been superseded by the RSPH level 2 exam, which is much harder. Passing exams and getting qualified is very important, but it won't make anyone a pest controller.

I'm guessing that the reason for the requirement to microchip is so that the insurance requirement can be enforced. Imagine if every dog in the country could be traced to it's rightful owner? How would all the dog thieves manage then? As for the insurance itself; if everyone had to have it, the competition would be fierce. I'm guessing that people are thinking that the prices would be similar to those charged for veterinary care; which is not the case. I can't see it costing more that £25-£30 for third party liability insurance, and I'm sorry, but if you can't afford that, then yo -
If you go and get a job with one of the national companies, they will train you, put you through the exam, and give you work experience. Going it alone, and doing the one week intensive course is OK, but it's a lot to take in. What happens if you fail the exam (only 60% pass first time)? The other option is to contact the BPCA and ask when the next Warwick course is. There are exam dates throughout the year, but without training and experience you are very unlikely to pass. Killgerm are not the only training provider out there..... Also note that the RSPH level 2 is an 'entry

What effect do you think that micro chipping would have on the number of dogs stolen? -

I'm going to cause a row now, because I think that third party insurance would be a good thing for dog owners. How many times have we seen threads on here about 'my dog attacked by another dog', and who picks up the bill? Usually the responsible dog owner.... There is also the issue of damage to stock by irresponsible dog owners animals. If everyone was insured, then potentially less dogs would be shot because the owner of the stock would know that he could recover damages from the insurance companies. Third party insurance doesn't have to cost a lot, although I understand that s -
Most proficient snarers would have 100 snares set and working before you've even unloaded the 100 cages from the (7 1/2 tonner) van, and those snares will have a much higher percentage catch rate in a much shorter time than the cages. Added to that, 100 cages represent a considerable capital outlay, and are easy victims for thieves and vandals. Cages have their uses, but snares are usually much more efficient when used by competent professionals.

New American mole trap on the market
Matt replied to Steve Albano's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Bell were busy telling me how you just 'push them in', but failed to explain how you get one out without digging when they have a mole in them!! As Glenn says, we have the best trap in the world (the Duffus), and I just can't see a market for these things; especially at five times the price and weight of a decent trap that has the potential to catch two moles at a time. Designed for the DIY market - unlikely to be of any use to professional trappers IMHO. -

I think I'm out of favour with Bell after my very rude comments about this monstrosity at Pestech last year. At around £15 each, they are not cheap either. Get ready to see dozens tossed to one side on garden jobs............. -
Any pest Species that is Caught Must be Humanely Destroyed.(Rat,Rabbit,Fox,Mink,Squirrel Etc)They Cannot be Released At All. Absolute crap, sorry. It is an offence to release certain 'alien' species (like North American Mink, Grey Squirrels etc) but it is NOT illegal to release pest species. If you are so sure that it is, perhaps you would like to tell us all exactly what legislation it is that you are referring to?

There is no market for skins in the UK, more's the pity....... Dead quarry that are inedible should be disposed of properly. Until the new regulations came into force preventing the burial of fallen stock, I used to have several farmers with 'dead pits'. The best one was a concrete ring with a manhole lid on the top.

Wrong. There are very few circumstances in which a dog can be shot. See previous posts.
-
There must be more to this than meets the eye, especially given the recent posts by the OP. The law is clear on this; a dog may only be shot (by a licensed and authorised person) if it is in the act of worrying livestock, and only then as a last resort. The police can also shoot dogs if they pose a significant risk to the safety of the public, and are dangerously out of control. No individual is allowed to shoot a dog unless it is within the law as above. If they do, they are committing the offence of criminal damage, and also firearm offences - both of which are serious. If y
