I like Speed Dip. It's easy to use, and as it says on the tin, it's a speedy way of protecting and improving traps. I must get a longer fence..........

I'm afraid I disagree with you there Mr TP. People shouldn't risk the health of themselves, their pets, and their children just to prove a point. If you'd seen the number of failed DIY treatments as me, I'm sure you'd agree. It doesn't just effect the home owner either. By the time people have tried (and usually failed) the infestation has often also started to effect neighbouring properties. Money is no excuse. All (bar two) local authorities offer free or subsidised treatments to residents - and there is also the Social Fund which exists to help people with this type of cri

To all you PEST CONTROLLERS !!!

Sob story???? Go back and read what I wrote: It's not me that's effected. It's the good guys who are just starting out (properly). As for my comments stopping others from posting - you are full of shite. Why do you think the likes of Moletrapper, Ditchshitter and many, many more no longer post on here? It's because this place is full of kids, wannabies, chancers and dickheads. You adding to that by posting insults just proves the case. If anyone wants to know how good this section used to be, just go back a fifty pages and look at some of the good stuff that used to -

Well Bobba, I think it's people like you that are ruining this forum. Lets get this right; this isn't someone doing a favour for a neighbour, he is asking what the 'going rate' is to do a commercial job. I'm protective of my profession. I know that upsets some 'wannabies' but after over twenty years in the game, I'm fed up with people thinking that pest control is just easy money. To survive in this day and age you have to be not only trained, but also qualified. That takes lots of dedication and money, and to have people undercut you, or take the easy jobs from under your nose g -
It takes more than a thick tosspot like you to excite me Topnotch. What's wrong with your keyboard?

I am not trying to cause offece, but honestly it seems like you have a problem with anyone who isnt a full time pest controller killing vermin. No offence taken, but just to clarify: I DO have a problem with people trying to make a quick buck out of a professional service I DO have a problem with people coming on here asking 'how much to catch moles' I DO have a problem with people fecking about with rats in their own home I DO have a problem with untrained, unqualified, uninsured people using toxic baits However, I DO NOT have any problem with people killing
-
You may be misunderstanding me. I am been paid as a waste management company to remove the waste not deal with the pest control. I was looking for an option to clear some rats first as a 'Free of charge' service. And how would you feel if I was to charge the customer a 'large sum' to do the pest control, and then offer to do the waste disposal for 'free'? It's all very well asking for help if you have a domestic problem, but this is a serious commercial infestation that could have a dramatic effect on local households, and is currently jeopardising the health and safety of your clie

Your BASC insurance WOULD NOT cover a commercial activity. An air weapon is a firearm in the eyes of the law. I suggest you get some professional help ASAP as you seem unable to understand the legalities of the work you are being paid to do.

I might be an arsehole, but at least I'm not a simpleton who can't post without using block capitals! The point is that this is a commercial job, for which the OP is being paid a 'large amount' (his words), and he is trying to offer a professional pest control service without using a professional (on the cheap). A good team of terriers may be a way forward, but this sounds like a serious infestation, that needs a serious survey. That can only be done by a properly trained professional - not a 'waste disposal' person, or some dick who just wants some sport with his or her terriers or g
-
Would your insurance policy cover you for using a firearm to control pests? Somehow I doubt it. Call in a professional pest control company - it sounds like they are paying a large sum for a professional job to be done, not for someone to have a bit of sport.

If you are offering a commercial service - even if it is a 'one off' you should have public liability insurance. Any 'free' insurance offered by organisations will not cover a commercial activity for 'reward'. As for pricing - well, it's well known on this forum that I won't discuss pricing with non-professionals who are just out to take food from the mouths of hard working pros. BUT, I will tell you that £180 is not too much for a mole clearance job. Think about how many visits it will take, and what the true cost of running a business is, and work it out for yourself. Stick to running your waste management company and call in professional pest controllers.

Carrots are indeed the preferred bait to use in rabbit cages. Cage trapping is an expensive way of catching a few bunnies, but it does have it's place.

Soak it in cheap cola overnight, and then give it a coat of 'Speed Dip'.

I've read somewhere that he went to hospital with mental health problems, and was turned away. In my opinion, all medical records should show if a patient has gun licenses, and medical staff should be duty bound to inform the police if a patient has stress/anxiety or is suffering from depression. You cannot legislate for people who suffer from mental health problems from time to time; at some point most people suffer, and the suspension of licenses for a period of time would be a good idea. Some license holders have criminal records for minor non-violent offences. I don't think a

Yes. The thought of any Tom, Dick or Harry being able to act as Judge, Jury and Executioner is quite frightening. While I'm against further firearm legislation, it does make sense that Doctors should be able to inform the authorities if a certificate holder is suffering from any kind of mental disorder. Lets not forget, these incidents are few and far between.

Latest news is that there are 12 dead, and 11 injured. The firearms used (a 12 bore and a .22 rifle) were both licensed to Derrick Bird. The Home secretary has made a measured and sensible statement, in which she has said that no 'knee jerk' changes to legislation will be made. Chris Williamson (moron) Labour MP for North Derbyshire is already calling for the banning of all private gun ownership. If you live in his constituency, email him today and tell him what an idiot he is. Am I the only one who is fed up with the media making such a fuss about the rifle having telescopic

Grain bait containing Foucoumafen? I thought that was only available in block formulations (Storm) ? What was the name of the product?

Human nature I suspect Blitz......... After Hungerford and Dunblane, which were both followed by draconian legislation that did nothing to prevent this type of tragedy, it's only natural that people think about any future laws. The fact is, we can all sit here saying 'RIP' etc, but the people directly effected are not likely to be on THL at the moment to read it. It's a tragedy, and as I stated in the other thread, you can't legislate for lunatics, and trying to cause trouble between shooters and everyone else isn't going to help.
-
Are you allowed to post airguns? I thought that all transactions had to be 'face to face'?
-
What a childish and stupid post. I'm sure that everyone wished to pass on their sympathy for those who are effected, and something like this happening is bound to stimulate some debate on the subject of firearm licensing, as can be seen on countless news channels and other internet sites. Why you are trying to show some sort of 'them and us' situation is beyond me. Plenty of shooting people also keep working dogs and fully support the right to hunt. You've now offended lots of shooting and hunting people with your outburst. If you are in mourning for friends or family, then get t

That looks like one hell of a good product! I think the pheasant/hen product will be more popular in the UK. Any idea of carriage costs to the UK, or a UK distributor? I'm very interested. PM if you like. PS - you'd be better off posting this in the 'Living off the land' section of the forum.

Creosote (the proper stuff) has been banned for sale or use by non-professional users. The replacement 'Creocote' is safer to use and available for anyone to buy.
-
While I agree that now is the time to think about the victims and their families, past experience shows that you cannot legislate for lunatics, and the knee jerk legislation brought in after other masacres hasn't saved any lives. The bottom line is that mad people don't need guns - you could easily kill or injure a large number of people with a car - not least because people don't panic when they see a car. The powers that be may choose to 'tweak' the gun laws, but sadly, it will not prevent this type of thing happening. I notice that the police are not saying whether this nutte
