  1. so your dogs about 6 months i didnt get my bitch till she was 9 months an by then she was keen to have a go ,so i just let her go for it...but i started running her with my mates dog who knew the score an was 4 y/o at the time an he helped her along no end.... if i were you i would try an get to know a few lads who have dogs an try an get out with them...you stay in yorkshire so it's not as if you are short of guys with working dogs..all the best
  2. just thought i would lighten the mood a bit...been reading the post about the unfortunate finger incident with the racoon whats some of the things that have made you laugh when out with the dogs?? me an my mate were walking up through school playing fields when we got to the other end we saw a local policeman who has made it his lifes ambition to catch anybody with a running/working dog doin somethin illegal..when he stopped us we protested our innocence an said we were just excercising the dogs off the leash when from out of knowhere my mates lurcher returns to dump a caught and very dead ra
  3. it's night's like that you'll always remember!!! shame about your finger though  sounds like you lads had a great night!!!!well done
  4. thanks very much juckler 123...as stated in a previous post it wont be till next year that i'm lookin for a pup (move house, build kennels etc all have to be done first )but i'll certainly keep you in mind ..thats a fine lookin dog you have , cheers chris....
  5. "The lad never mentioned whether he was lamping, ferreting or bushing his golf courses. " just moochin about..the groundsman are happy enough to let us get on with things.....we only frequent the golf course now an again...just to get the dogs some very fast runs...cheers chris...
  6. well done mate thats a crackin lookin dog ...same colour as my greyhound..
  7. i get panacur liquid off the vet with a syringe ..its easier to use than the tablets i find if like me you've got a dog who will eat anything apart from any sort of medicine
  8. Not sure I've read this right, are you saying your thinking of Collie crosses because A, your only interested in Rabbits? Which is fare enough. A good Collie cross will do you proud on the humble bunny and B because they won't have it in them to tackle Deer. I can assure that the do have the necessary minerals to take Deer as I'm sure many on this site will testify. If you don't mind me asking why are you not considering a 1/2 bred? 1/2 breds have plenty of pace to cope with rabbits, have more stamina than 3/4 breds and are generally much tougher physically. i know were you are
  9. cheers lads...thats a few good points to take on board..
  10. cheers sjm..won't be till next year though, but i'll let you know if i hear of anything goin...
  11. cheers magpie..think you might have picked me up wrong..its got nothing to do with havin the balls to take deer..my friend has a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie an its had quite a few...as well as charlie...it's ME who isn't interested in takin deer...just want a good rabbiting dog with a fair turn of pace..didn't know that about he 1/2 bred dogs..only ever seen 3/4 breds working..cheers...chris
  12. i know what you mean..they'll be running on the golf course to keep them fit(fast running ground) i run my greyhound on a golf course with her lurcher pup whos owned by my mate..the cemetary is a challenge for any dog,we've been running dogs in the same cemetary for years an i've found if they're taken there as pups they learn how to move quickly amongst obstacles its the open hillside that they will be running on mostly though...cheers chris
  13. a mixture of a golf course, cemetary and very hilly open grassland bordered with dense patches of woodland...was thinking of the collie as it is easy to train as you said because where i'm moving house to is over run with deer where i'll be running the dogs an i'm not interested in deer..just rabbits
  14. going to be buying in 2 pups next year an was thinking of going for a couple of 3/4 grey 1/4 collie pups...just wanted to know what people thought of this cross..if you have any experience i would be grateful for any info..i'm thinking of buying this cross solely for takin rabbits..(no deer or fox) chris
  15. any links to this strong stuff would be greatly appreciated cheers chris...
  16. facinating stuff.... seen a vid a while ago of a saluki coursing a reem..think it was shot in saudi..i'll try an post a link to it
  17. my staffy is called perry..hes the only dog i have ever known called by that name.. why not use that he's 11 y/o incase your interested
  18. some vets are nothin more than thieving b"$%^rds.....try an get your dog along to one who is either into working dogs themselves or who comes recommended from someone who works them an takes their dogs to them...ours ain't too bad..my dads terrier broke his back leg jumping over a wall an also tore his ligaments an damaged all his muscle,he had to get a titanium pin put in his leg ..cost us £489.00 which is a lot cheaper than we thought it would be....by the way the dog is a staffordshire bull an he made a full recovery except a wee touch of athritis in his leg..well he is 11 y/o....cheers
  19. i mix road work an running off the lead actually working which seems to keep her fit enough without the need for an actual fitness regime...an she also excercises off the lead with my mates dog as well on a golf course(fast running ground )
  20. me an my friends are running a mix of pure greyhounds straight cross grey/bedlington an 3/4 grey 1/4 bedlington...we'll ignore the pure hounds for now ,but the straight cross is absolute 100% on rabbits, foxes an has caught the occasional hare..hes takin to ferreting well(must be the beddy bit commin through)the 3/4 cross is the same as his sire but with a bit more leg an a bit more acceleration..hes still only a young dog an hasn't been hard tested but is catchin rabbits well...so this winter will see how hes goin to really shape up...there is pics of them in the other bedlington greyhound th
