  1. I have an opportunity to buy one of these in .177. Does anybody have any experience or opinions they'd like to share? The gun in question is part of a deceased estate and hasn't been used for a while. It is missing the end cap and magazine and I'm not sure Armex still provides spares for these. Also interested in thoughts on a reasonable price. cheers
  2. Certainly better than 1 all.....
  3. Good read, but some of the facts are a bit different. The pigeons being shot came from the property they were shooting on. Also I wasn't worried about how close to the road they were. I'm pretty sure they had a hide in the hedge as the report was quite loud. What concerned me was they shot over the road, and a fairly well used road at that, not a narrow lane. Dual lanes in fact.
  4. Right, I haven't been back on this thread because I've been out for the evening and I only have 22 posts because I've only been a member for a short time. Second, because I question something that I think is dangerous and not strictly in accordance with the law at a time when shooting in general is coming under increased scrutiny does not make me an anti. It makes me concerned and willing to ask the question of a forum containing like-minded people. Third, the pigeon was hit above the highway - witnessed by myself and my wife. No question about it. They obviously followed it over the hedge and
  5. No, I don't know who owns it. It might be the owners shooting from the hedge along the roadside...in which case they'll probably tell me to sling my hook. Still, they are endangering a lot of unseen people through some fairly basic mistakes. Police report or not? Adverse attention or not?
  6. Walking home past some fields where someone is obviously pigeon shooting on the other side of the hedge. Two shot birds sitting on the road. As we passed by two shots rang out and a bird above our head and clearly above the road takes a hit. I yelled at the unseen shooters to stop shooting over the road. No response and a few minutes later more shots ring out. In two minds about what to do. They clearly SHOULDN'T be shooting at birds flying over the road. They also should make sure the trajectory of shot birds doesn't take them onto a road. What if the birds had hit a car, bike or wa
  7. I'd be very interested in seeing photos of your set up. I had access to many kgs of lead last year and was even gifted a home-made shot maker, but I think I was getting the temp wrong and the shot was all tear drop shaped. Ended up melting the lead (scrap flashing from a demolition) into ingots and selling it on eBay. If I could make shot I definitely would. Doesn't make much sense for 12 g, but the wife wants to shoot 20g and maybe even 410 so it would be worthwhile then. As you say, good lead is hard to come by. I'll hold on to any that comes my way from now on though as I should g
  8. Of course, the best place to live in the UK is in the South East - about 10,000 miles to the SE, but the SE nonetheless....
  9. A stock photo image of the Teign - to justify my confusion.....
  10. Close enough....The two look very much alike. All that mud I expect. Are you a Plymouth local?
  11. Brilliant. I'll check back in with them next time I'm in town. Does sound very simple. Now watch someone stuff it up..... Thanks again. Brad C
  12. Urgghhh! I wish this was straightforward..... I've sent a question to the butcher concerned and also to a localish game dealer. There is so much conflicting opinion and advice. Perhaps I'll stick with donating everything to the bird of prey centre and zoo. Thanks for keeping me honest on this.
  13. OK, so I checked with my butcher today and they will take them as long as they are fully prepared. They aren't permitted to do any butchering of game on their premises. So I'll just squeeze gut, skin, remove head and limbs and wash them. Check the liver and then deliver - see how clever that was. Not much money in them although they reckon some older folk will really go for them so demand might pick up. I'm going to swap them for some dog food and other bits and pieces.
  14. Thanks for the advice. They are certainly cheaper than BASC and offer higher cover. I don't expect the farmers from whom I request permission are going to care which company I go with for insurance?
  15. I've seen conflicting advice on some other forums and BASC guidance doesn't seem clear. I'll talk to local butchers to see if they are happy to take them. Did you dress the rabbits first? Perhaps if you do any processing it creates a problem?
  16. I'm sure this question has been asked and answered on this forum many times but I can't find any posts - I'm new (and Australian). What are the rules about selling excess kills (bunnies/pigeons) to game dealers or butchers/pubs? Do you need to be licensed to do it? I see the Gamekeepers Org runs a 1 day course for £120 dealing with the safe handling of game meat. Is this essential as they say it is. There are a few pubs around me that often have game on the menu and I'd like to offload any I can't eat. cheers
  17. They've offered me £10 off the standard price. I'm probably just going to go with airgun membership at this stage as I don't expect to do anything with the 12G.
  18. Cheers. I eventually found the template for the letter and waiver. Just sorting out my BASC membership and insurance - I'm a veteran and being a cheeky sod asking for a discount.... Let's see how I get on.
  19. I've noticed significant concern among users of a well known video hosting service with respect to the future of their channels and subsequent income streams. From what I understand this well know video hosting service is responding to backlash from the majority of users sickened or fed up by the amount of hunting and gun-related content being uploaded and made available. Some of these users have millions of subscribers and multiple-million views of their videos. I'm sure they are earning a nice wad of cash as well. I'm not certain if the well known video hosting service is just enf
  20. Ummmm, where exactly would I find the templates? Still feeling my way around the site and there is a lot to look at....
  21. I've been reloading some 12g cartridges for fun and definitely not the economics of it. As others have said the price for 12g cartridges is so low, or I should rephrase that, so low in comparison to buying the components for reloading, that it doesn't make any sense. I was lucky enough to be gifted a flour sack full of defective shells some time ago and was able to harvest many kgs of lead shot - predominantly 7.5. With this lead obtained for free it made sense and was bloody good fun. However my reloaders are sitting idle in the corner of the room now as my supplies have dwindled to one
  22. Hi all, My 'this is me' post as a newbie to this forum. I've had a lifelong interest in shooting and field sports without a ready outlet - Aussie ex-pat and the gun laws really stymied any plans to enjoy the sport. Now that I'm a dual-national and getting into the swing of country life here in the UK I figured it was time to put up or shut up. A bit about me - ex-military having served 27 years in the RAAF. Love to shoot and not ashamed to admit to it in public. Experience to date is paper and clay - military weapons and 12 gauge. Would happily shoot one of God's creatures for t
