  1. Hi, threw my mk 1 batteries away after todays outing thinking i had some spare, but i cant find them now and i cant remember the battery number to get some more. I bet you lot can help though !
  2. I use a Daschunt jrt cross. She's keen quiet and moves through thick bramble like a fish through water. Probably a hard cross to get hold of though.
  3. The best wat is to use frontline, the one for cats. Its easier to get hold of now as the pet suppliers who are registered as chemists can now supply. One drop per pound of animal is all you need and they are sorted for at least one month. I keep my ferrets sepperate overnight once treated so they dont lick it off each other. I'm not a fan of pulling them off ferrets as they are wriggly little buggers and the ticks often surround the eyes, also if you dont get the head out it WILL get infected. Just use frontline drops its clean easy and very effective.

  6. Thank god for that, i was getting depressed because i thought my permission was sh*t. Its comforting to know the rest of you are battling with bramble as well. Makes it a challenge though does'nt it, suppose it would be boring if it was too easy.
  7. I lost a mark 2 down a hole, how do you adapt them so they dont come off.
  8. Thanks for the advice, i'll give it a try.
  9. Most of my permission is covered with light bramble, the warrens usually consist of three to 10 holes max. I'm getting p***ed off with spending an hour pruning before i can lay my purse nets, so i think i would be better off with some type of long net. I have never used them before so could i have some advice on what type, and weight i would be best with and also how best to lay them out. thanks byrney.
  10. It must be great getting back into the ferreting after 10 years, and even better when you can pursue your favourite hobby and get your kids involved too. My daughters seven now and she can't wait to come along, she enjoys helping gut the bunnies but i think she lacks the patients to come out yet.
  11. Whats FFS mean. Patterjack is what some call a patterdale jack russel cross its not an official term.
  12. True her ears are like chihuahua but she is full Patterdale size and she is full terrier in every way. She has filled out a lot since this picture she is two now.
  13. Right here's a tough one for you, what cross is my dog. We got her at eight months old from our rescue centre and she was sold as a Patterdale. She obviously does have plenty of Patterdale in her but she's a little wiry in her build and her ears dont bend, also there is no white patch on her chest, we thought that she might be Patterjack but a jack's ears fold as well. Any ideas.
  14. I've tried the chop, I've tried necking but i prefer a preist. It kills first time and it can be done while the rabbits still tangled in the net.
  15. My mate brings one out, its a beltin bit of kit but its bloody loud.
  16. Does that mean they can catch kennel cough because my two bitches have a dose at the moment.
  17. I have got one now thanks.
  18. HI, i found it much easier. As i said i was using both my ferts simply because i had two. I also found that the first one was bolting a couple and then it went quiet and then sending the second for a go i was getting at least one more rabbit bolting. Thanks
  19. Hi, ive had some trouble with ticks myself. I did some research and was advised to use the frontline for kittens and to use one drop per pound of ferret. This was before you could by a pet shops so i ended up using the frontline for cats and it worked fine. Hope this helps.
  20. Hi fellow ferreters. I had my first outing of the season on some new permission last weekend. Last season was my first, and due to the lack of decent land and experience, it was a fairly dissapointing one, although i love getting out with the ferts its puts the icing on the cake when you bag a few. Last weekend was great though, the land i was on is a "pick your own" fruit farm and the rabbits are causing the owner a real problem. I managed to bag eight in three hours and learned a few good lessons. The first of these is that i would be much better off using a priest to despatch the rabbits
  21. HI thanks for the warm welcome, here is some pics of my team.
  22. a picture of yours would be cool mate :thumbs-up: Hi, i'm new to lurchers. I got this one last week from the rescue centre so i dont know how capable in the field she is but she is a belting dog intelligent, obedient and great with my young daughter.
  23. Hi, i,m Byrney. I have been ferreting with purse net for about one year now, but as on most of my permission the rabbits are well hidden under bramble i have just got myself a lurcher. She is from a rescue centre and appears to be mostly alsation greyhound. Dont know if she will work yet as its too early to take her out but time will tell. I have two albino jills also a patter jack cross and a daschunt jack russel cross. I have gained a small amount of permission so far but as always could do with a lot more, i'm sure this will come with time. Thanks Byrney.
