  1. Ended up finding a MK3 tx200hc around my budget locally, picked it up this morning. Shoulders lovely and very impressed by the quality of it. Minimal twang compared to an untuned HW. Look forward to zeroing it this evening.
  2. Thanks Mark,to muddy the waters even further i've found a 97k for sale locally within budget. I might just stick with what I know and get a replacement 97, this one has a wooden stock (the old one was plastic tactical job that I never particularly liked). I spoke to the gunshop holding the FWB 124, it's one of the early ones with a plastic trigger - the plastic trigger puts me off a bit if im honest. I've seen you can get machined aluminium replacements, but theyre £60 a go. Thanks for your advice, I'll figure out what i'm going to go with next week.
  3. Thanks Phil, yes I remembered someone on here was an FWB fan. Cheers. Hope Mark gets well soon
  4. Evening gents, Been a while. I had my beloved 97kt stolen on New year's eve from my yard and I'm yet to replace it. Looks like I might be taking on a bit of light pest control work, with the company hiring me paying for the rifle or at least contributing towards one. I have a budget of 300-400 at a stretch. I've seen an old FWB 124 being sold locally, and also a hw77, but am torn between the two. I loved my hw 97kt, had it vortek tuned and was an absolute joy to shoot... But the fwbs are beautiful things... I'm unsure which to make an offer on and all the advice and help iv
  5. Freeads.co.uk seems to be generally cheaper than guntrader and gunstar, full of private sales (if you go the second hand route). Regularly see hw77's, 97's and tx200's on there at around your budget or slightly more with full kit included. Good luck.
  6. Tidy hound Jimmy, a mate that I work with has a young patterdale and it's a brilliant dog. Keen as mustard!
  7. Cheers Rez, it's been really fun and satisfying getting back in to shooting and i've learnt a hell of a lot from this forum - both reading old posts and asking new questions. There are some very helpful lads on here. As a result I feel like I know the 97 pretty well inside and out and have properly got the bug for shooting back! Looking forward to my now very overdue baby to be born, then I can look at getting my tickets (a deal I struck with the missus) All the best, Guy
  8. Evening all, When I was researching tuning kits for my 97 and stumbled across references to Vortek I noticed there wasn't a great deal of information out there online. The hunting life frequently appears when searching for air rifle or shooting queries on Google so I thought it was worth writing a short review of what I have found so far so that others that are interested have a bit more information. Firstly, I am not an air rifle expert (as people on the forum will know), I grew up shooting air rifles and shotguns on the north Welsh border but have returned to shooting only over the last fo
  9. knew tom wold come through for you Guy... he's the good bloke in the Leeds area you'll be like a pig in sh1t with the 97 when you know its on the money atb si Was already like a pig in sh1t after Jimmy recommended reducing the trigger pull weight! Total game changer. The kit is taking it to the next level I reckon, just been doing some plinking out the back and she is a different animal. Now I just need to work on my shooting! All the best, Guy
  10. Cheers mate, most kind, I may well give you a shout if I'm stuck. Ta, Guy
  11. Bloody hell, that's quite an increase from just seals! I notice the spring had quite a bit more preload than the factory fitted one and the piston seal was incredibly tight - couldn't pull it back out of the compression chamber so I sized it back a tiny bit. It's still nice and tight but I can pull it through the chamber now. I've had friends take rifles that were unknowingly hot to rfds and had some bad experiences, there fault for not checking and adjusting, but that's exactly what I want to avoid. I'm capable of collapsing a coil if needs be. Ta, Guy
  12. Afternoon lads, fitted a vortek pg2 kit to my 97kt this morning, having polished and fettled all the internals a couple of days ago. First impressions are very good, recoil has reduced significantly and zero spring noise, quiet as a mouse, just a pleasing thwack. Going to fire as many shots as I can through her this evening to bed it in. Now this may be a bit of an ask but do any forum members in or around Leeds have a chrono that I could test the power of the rifle on? I've been warned to check after using vortek, and with only one air rifle at the moment buying a chrono is fairly low on th
  13. Tidy Mark. I've got a load of wheat fields that I can work this year. Do you use purely static decoys or spike shot birds too? Cheers, Guy PS I've been admiring your FWBs for a while and am keeping my eye out in the usual places for when one comes up
  14. Jimmy is indeed a top man, always more than helpful and full of advice. The vortek kit for my 97kt will be in the post tomorrow. Can't wait! Lewis, Jimmy gave me the advice to adjust my trigger pull weight, a quarter turn to the left at a time until it is nice and crisp - this has been a game changer for me and I'm finally realising the true potential of the rifle. Changed my groups at 30 yards from just under an inch to half an inch. Shot a string of 30 shots yesterday and all but a few fit under a 5p coin. Today the group was even more consistent. If you look back over a few pages on the
  15. Originally from Shropshire but love Yorkshire and it's people so much that I describe myself as born again Yorkshire. Twas only when I've used it as a username that I thought about the religious connotations.
  16. Looks like you have found HW100 If you're talking about the one on the buy and sell section I missed it unfortunately bud.
  17. Ooft, exactly what I'm after but won't have the cash together for a few weeks. Based in Leeds
  18. Cheers for all the advice lads. £500 for the gun realistically, though I've seen quite a few package deals around the £600 - £650 mark with bottle and nice scopes. The 97 is a .177 and that's what I want for the PCP. Cheers for the offer Jayjay, I'll consider it but it will take me two or three weeks to get some cash together. Ta, Guy
  19. Aye, I saw your post about long range groups with your 110 Villaman, very impressive. Have you tried both rifles? What are the advantages of the 110 over 100? Shots per fill and price or other aspects? Cheers lads, Guy
  20. Evening all, In the last month I've been considering buying my first PCP air rifle. Reason being that at present I have plenty of time after work to go to my permissions and keep numbers of vermin down with my springer. The impending onset of fatherhood will mean that I will not be time rich any more and it's therefore important to produce a decent volume of pests shot in the limited windows of time that I'll have to keep the landowners happy (i'd be lying if I said I didn't fancy a new toy as well!). I will still be keeping my HW97 in the back of the truck as standard so as to get a couple o
