My Hunting Set Up For This Year...pic Heavy Warning
Ted Newgent replied to Ted Newgent's topic in Big Game Hunting
yes i sure will continue. deer season next plus the added bonus of pigs which currently are scarce in this area at the moment. then its coyote hunting all through the winter (ecaller, snow cammo and -25c weather) plus me trekking through frozen swamps tracking pigs. also got a friend coming down for late elk season so i will be with him again,so pics from that hunt too. i am now into my 10th year over here. hunting and fishing is amazing here.you have a serious amount of freedom with the outdoor life. fishing license is $30 for the year and you can fish any piece of water you see. b -

here we go!!! after all the tomphuckerey tuesday between landowners and damn truck hunters i headed off into private land that surrounds a piece of secluded wildlife lands.hardly anyone goes there cause its foot access only and the private landowners only allow certain hunters to travel thru their land. 30 min walk i i get to the field to spot the elk herd feeding. bingo!! so a stalked the elk about 100yds to be within 150yd range. its now gone 5pm.i am tired and not really upto taking the shot. so i left there. wednesday i return,12.30pm i head back into the field and hunker -

ok this turned sour pretty quick my mate who owns the land adjourning the other farmers land went down to see him last night. basically he doesnt want me n mate in there with this set up and we have to move it. so my mate told him dont bother driving through his land to get to yours etc etc both families have had agreements about access to each others land.thats gone now. camera and card returned. looking now for another spot -

yeah well its hunting season and it brings out the idiots.you really dont appreciate hunting in the UK til you get over here. atleast back at home once you get permission to land you are normally the only one on there, not the case over here. had some shitty luck today, where i have the tree stand and cam which pics i have been posting, the landowner adjoining this land took it upon himself to steal my cam, slice the ratchet straps to the barrel and tree stand. here in sask we have 'wildlife lands' which anyone can hunt over(there is certain rules) my set up was on this land,he has taken -

ok day two finished unsuccessful too many moose hunters driving around causing mayhem. i located another herd of elk but it was passed legal shooting time and on 'no hunting' land after a bit of calling around i have located the land owner and off to knock on his door. fingers crossed he gives me the ok,i usually come out trumps and they dont expect and englishman to be asking for permission lol.being english do have its advantages. i changed the card out on the cam and this little chap has made an appearance -

ok i am going to go into a full RANT mode i will explain something first about hunting in sask, canada. if land is NOT posted 'no hunting or trespassing' you can legally go on there and hunt. you do not have to ask the landowner but its polite to do so. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSoooooooooooooooo if you see a sign saying 'no hunting or trespassing' this means you cant even put a toe on there. BUT if the landowner gives you permission you are good to go. pretty easy concept to understand, well you think it is.......... i get onto my mates land at 6am,legal shooting is 7am.his land is posted no h -

I'll see if our local man will let me post a picture of his set up. He's out in all weather shooting and trapping. Yotes mainly but anything else that's in season. I'm not sure what local pelt prices run as it isn't really my thing and there's the $50 bounty on them so I'll find a lot dumped while I'm out with the dogs. Lower jaw and ears missing. I'd love to see the pics if you can get them they never get old! I'm curious now though, do you read Fur-Fish-Game? it wont be til around december/jan time before i call there i will be posting to here until begining of march next year -

Funny you should mention that, only this morning I was wondering if coyote could be hunted cheap(ish). No idea what the crack is but I could happily spend a week chasing them with my quarterbore for the skins and skulls. Yes, you can. My state has a $50 bounty on them if you turn in the ears and the lower jaw. If you shoot six a week... well it can be a very lucrative setup. I get them in my yard and they'll run down the street at least 4 times a week yipping. its open season all year round for yotes here. for residents only. you can shoot yotes without a fur license but if you -

ok i will my mate changed out the cards yesterday. just 11pics on the cam of a doe and fawn. i set up another cam for an experiment which has failed miserably. last year i dumped the carcasses of 40 geese in a treeline(i take all the meat off the birds and freeze it) i went back two days later and not one bird was there.so we was thinking the wild boars were taking them. we know they use the treeline as a trail form a to b. so this year i stuck birds down and a camera.......zero pigs but there is other critters on there. i will get the pics of my mate and post em up -

i changed the SD card last weekend and the normal elk had trotted by(not posting the pics as its a repeat of the above) no deer and still no fckn wild boars. this unbelievable since the temps are now hovering around 0c most nights. a friend who is around 8 miles south of me has 20-30 boars coming in and absolutely nailing his bait pile, which he has down for deer. he is having to bait every two days to make sure the deer have food. 7 days time and i am out for my cow elk.starting to get sleepless nights LOL -
i was skipping through here looking at surplus stuff and the boots are pretty cheap http://www.ex-mod-textiles.com/shop/footwear.html not sure how they are though. i was after a shirt and pants

it was a sad day, this schitt never ends. we in canada are now going to be subject to changes (big or small) to our firearm laws. the liberals election promise was sweeping changes and this incident has now inflamed the rather loud anti gun orgs in getting the safety minister to get off his arse and do something. the rcmp are massively against legal gun ownership,so you just know how this will end up. just this week a petition was submitted to try and atleast get the government to look into legalising sound mods, this wont happen now. the usually gansta gun crime is through the roof
