I was out Sunday and had 2 separate digs a 0.5 and 0.6 the week or so before that a 6ft dig I wasn't expecting at all, that's just how it goes.

Good on you Glyn, I dig on my own 90% of the time and on the odd occasion I wish I had a hand, I've been off work all week and have got more great land to hunt myself, no 10footers either ? and I'll be digging it the weekend. ?

I gave up overthinking and analysing terrier work years ago simply because one day your digging to ur dog you've bred thinking its a goodun then your 5 feet down you look up and it's staring down at you?????? I stick to the basics now and what the dogs have taught me over the years ( which is more than any dogman has ).

There's comes a point when you say to urself they've done their apprenticeship and it's time for business, I've a marker and they are measured by the mistakes they make, after the first mistake then I call them chances, I don't know how u describe it dd, harsh maybe but I know what u mean by learn and mature I call that apprenticeship.

After having a dig wth another terrierman a month ago we were discussing how many chances do you give a dog before your resigned to the fact they ain't gunna make the grade, we both said the same thing funnily enough.

It's in any dog whatever breed to naturally rag things, a little encouragement as pups does no harm I think, a few rats and a bit of bushing will get any late starters going, but only as pups once they know the score I stop. The best dogs I've had wouldn't look at anything dead no matter how much encouragement you gave them.

Have to agree with Glyn when he says a terrier knows how deep to ground it is (roughly), an experienced terrier is all about itself and sod the owner haha when I try to grab my terrier they put their tail under there arse so u can't grab them or tuck their legs in tight, (I'm not coming out, is what there thinking).
