  1. There is mate, I was at it a few weeks ago, a proper show with proper dogs and men, had a cracking day out! Hope you were there, if not make sure you are next year, you won't regret it! Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. SS - You make a good point about why people travel all the way and spend so much money if the outcome has already been decided. Earlier in the thread Beck raised a good point when out of 60 qualifying shows only 23 dogs turned up, that tells its own story. I for one actually liked the winning dog, I can't of course vouch for its working ability, but if we
  2. SS many people knew the result weeks ago. the judge & the winner are mates and were together before the show. It was so obvious, there was no need for the charade, should've just picked his winner & got it over with quickly. There were at least 6 better dogs that never got a look in, & the few workers among 'em were ignored. At supposedly big finals you'd think the organisers would make sure it can't happen. Should have a bent show for the show people & a real show for working dogs & people.
  3. SS, was recommended No3 steel in Keens last week for geese in 2 & 3/4" 32g (all they had I think, said there's little difference!). Is it wiser to go 3" or 3 & 1/2" magnums?? Only thing that puts me off is £20+ per box!! You get to a point where you have to make your own value judgement as to height, speed, wind, distance, type of duck/goose! There is not a BEST cartridge, there are several very adequate cartridges depending on the circumstances Punt Gun????? Yeh agree with that Deker & that comes with experience, but what would a reasonable allrounder be? If t
  4. Mate, nice to hear a sensible attitude, but don't wait till next year. Try & get out with an experienced friend. I'm in a similar position to you, new to wildfowling, so I go with the seasoned lads & watch/learn. Left at 2am last Saturday, drove 3 hours, walked over a mile & sat up to my knees in mud for another 8 hours without even having a shot Worse still my more experienced mate suggested a move & within 10 mins a flight of about 15 Canadas came over exactly above where we had been and 2 other shooters had 3 of them!! But I know when I shoot my first Canada it'll all h

  6. How can he be proven as a worker at his age.£££££££££££££££££££££££ ITS BLINDING YOU. Right idea bruv but it says proven stud NOT proven worker. Ps Scrappy if he's miniature then he aint a JR!! half chihuaha more like.

  8. Then why did you get so many dogs boy bach?? How about a few pics, got a mate who's looking for a young bitch.
  9. Depends on the weather mate, if its dry, the land is flat & I wear trainers I'm a fair match for 'em but in wet conditions they leave me standing cos I have to wear wellies!
  10. Personally I don't bother with the dogs mate. They're so easy on the lamp I chase 'em myself, its more sporting! -keeps you fit too!
  11. Riggers, its personal choice mate, 16" or 20" whichever you prefer the look of. Most seem to go with the shorter barrel because even with the mod added its still easier to handle from a vehicle. I've got a .22 american with a 16" barrel & its really light & manoevreable. I've also got a hmr with a 20" (I think!) varmint barrel & its surprisingly heavy but its solid to shoot with & looks better sat in the custom stock than the 16" barrel would. let me know if you want some pics & I'll email 'em to you.
  12. Good thread SJ, pity there's a few numptys with stupid comments gotta spoil it(like coneycatcher99 maybe? dickhead!)

  20. Might seem a daft question to most but since all my dogs have been kept outside in kennels for years I've forgotten! I would like to know the best way to house train my new lurcher pup,as I have managed to persuade the Mrs he would make a good house dog! Any advice would be appreciated.
