Never seen one in the UK before. Used to see loads of them in the south of France when I lived there. Apparently a fairly recent arrival over here.

First one I ever seen, been reading up on them, seems the mild winters have helped them spread and they are heading north.

I saw my first one near Lee-On-The-Solent during the late 90s but then didn't see any for several years. Last year and the year before my son and I found several in a field near me but none in the same field this year but then he spotted a single one a few days ago while we were returning from a local walk.

I once saw one of these spiders having a crazy battle with a praying mantis that had fallen into its web. The spider won. They are big enough to tackle large grasshoppers.
