What dogs you use ferreting

Wondered what dogs you use when ferreting, I have 2 patterdales but no good while ferreting, the go balistic when the rabbits bolt but are awesome marking dogs and never miss a rabit in a set but just want to dig and go to ground.

When we go out normally we take my mates collie, you wouldnt believe it if you didnt see it work. its the business and quiet too.

we use bedlingtons to mark up my mate uses a russel i i always take 2 lurchers with us too whippet x greys

Either a terrier or a lurcher depending on which one I want to take with me.

i have a bedlington good little marking dog.

Lurcher.....half cross ACD.

 

One of the best marking Dogs i have ever seen was a German Shepard/Labrador.....he had a nose on him like a Bloodhound.

Had a very strange way of marking though......he used to cock his leg and piss.

The best dog i've ever seen for marking was my old border terrier, a few lads off the forum seen him in action too. He could mark a rabbit in a hole from a fair distance away and I could just send him into a wood and walk down the outside of it watching him, when he started tiptoeing round the holes or stood still you could wander over and net up. I use a springer spaniel he marks like you won't belive, he'll also sit and cover a hole for bolters and will get stuck in and dig when I let him. Took a walk today and he caught a big fat one

4 dugs over the last 20+ year

My 1st lurcher Theo,I had the time and enthusiasm with this one and he repayed me ,I didn,t bother much with nets and he became very good at snatching them up,live to hand

Penny,never entered her untill she was 5 yrs old,pleasantly surprised,she just pins them in the nets and doesn,t grip,wish I had entered her earlier though

No barking, scratching, whining, head down the hole or fuss just good solid marks when there is something at home.

Some nice looking dogs there lads, lots of different breeds too, it just shows that with good training and breeding they take to it well.
