Tiercel 6,986
If you knew about pack behaviour then you would understand that if you are the alpha male you are incharge of your pack,my dogs snap at other dogs, but if i tell them to stop, they stop, or are made to stop. Also as an Alpha, the rest of the pack take their cue from you. If you are aggressive they will be aggressive. If you are calm they will be calm. That is assuming that you do have a pack structure with your dogs and within that structure you actually are the Alpha male. TC
dirtwinger 235
One of my mates in Albuqueruqe has a vet clinic and has problems with loose dogs, he has his own solution to the problem. He gets idiots walking into the clinic with pits and the like off the leash into a crowded waiting room full of cats and dogs. he tells them to get the dog on a leash and under control or he will. If the still wont control the dog he hits it with pepper spray, if the owner kicks up a stink he sprays them too! He says that since he started doing that he gets very few arseholes coming in the clinic. all the best Dirtwinger
kristian 9
Had a similar incedent last week. I'm walking my dog on the lead when a guy comes the other way with a collie off the lead and he says "is your dog ok with other dogs" and i tell him "no not really, especially with yours barking in my dogs face".! so he looks at me and turns round, his dog is still off the lead and calls it. The fecking thing carrys on barking at my dog and i'm doing my best to keep my dog off it. i can see the guy starting to go round the corner calling his dog and i'm thinking wtf. This collie was only a young dog and i was tempted to let my dog get hold of it but it was the owners fault not the dog. Next time i see him and i'm not wrestling with my dog to keep it from malling his i'm going to give him a peice of my mind
StephOC 6
Got bitten by a big red dog last summer - was taking the farm dog out for a stroll - in the fields belonging to the farm - and this big rhodesian ridgeback or similar comes up from nowhere growling - I saw the top of a woman's head in the field, shouted her to get her dog under control, she called him, he didn't listen and I ended up on the floor, holding onto farm dog, trying to kick S**T out of other one - one boot landed square on it and it finally went back to the woman - and get this - she didn't even ask if I was OK, just walked off. And I was proper shocked, took a few mins later for me to see the blood on my dog's leg and my hand. There are some places where I think its accepted as fine to let all dogs run off lead. But if I see someone walk into the park, or up ahead on a track with their dog on a lead, mine is too. If another dog comes at Toby when I'm out, and is being agressive, I'll shout to the owners, get my dog behind me and then kick the dog, if its close enough to reach with your foot, it shouldn't be there, and I'm there to protect my dog. Admittedly, I've only done this 3 times, as Toby is a friendly drip, and even really, mean dogs are normally fine with him. The most anoying thing for me is when I'm training or working him, and folk let their dogs chase after him, bark and try to play with him... it happens quite a lot. CI HIR 13
I live on a smallholding and for some weeks noticed a big fat chocolate labrador coming down the driveway on a regular basis(off lead and usupervised). The lab became more nosy every day staying around longer and really pissing my beasts off, despite me shouting at him to f--k off.The next day I`d just finished feeding my dogs when I heard loud screaming noises coming from my chickens. To my horror I saw the fat lab terrorizing some of my chickens.Enough is enough I thought as I let out my beddy greyhound/wheaten greyhound who torpedoed the lab instantly.Ten minutes later I was still struggling to get my dog to let go of the lab`s head, eventually I did.Funny I haven`t seen the lab since, and my chickens are happy again. Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
Mine go on the lead if I see other people walking towards me with dogs. Most people around here now know that the labx is ok as long as dogs leave here alone, alsationx- depends on dog, slukix- reacons shes ok. We have one women with oversized nasty yorky type x, always lets it run upto mine- snapping growling- told her more than once to get the bl**dy thing on a lead & away from me. Last week I was bout 40ft away & she didnt put it on lead- it flew across field starts snapping & snarling. Alsation x bounced on it & flattended it with front feet, he then went to lok for his ball- Sluki decides shes had enough, grabbed it & shook it before throwing it. Told owner to get hold of it- got hold of all mine. Did ask if it was ok & told her that had she had it on a lead none of the incident would have happened. I know my dogs dont always do what I want them to- if there's any doubt they will behave- leads go on- simple as. I cant do with the hassle & most people appreciate you keeping dogs on a lead if they are a pain in the arse. With three to control its a losing battle if something kicks off & at least two of them will do serious damage.
