Sterry 0
hi there lads and lass. Right, i've never had or seen running dog working, but i really would like to. at the moment im just thinking whether or not it would be practical and fair to keep a long dog (something like a beddlington X whippet), so im asking you guys and "gals" the ins and outs of working a running dog, like what diet it needs, how long and difficult it is to train one and what sort of permission you need (and anything other would be really helpful too as i doubt i would ever think of something). Hopefully i should be driving by the end of the year and i have ferrets so should be rabbits for me to run it at. but as i said im just weighing everything up at the moment and all advice will be much apprieciated. And excercise wont be a problem as i have pointer X which gets an awful lot of runs. despite him not being the best dog (far from it) it is bloomin' fit cheer Joe. Sterry 0
anyone got more???? Quote Link to post
Guest flapper
nip gets all his good dogs off me. regret selling the whippet but he doesnt care Quote Link to post
Guest flapper
depends on what type of land you are running, if its a bit of bushing and lamping a whippet or bedlington x whippet would suit you i think Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
Sorry to be soo nieve....but what it bushing.... i presume its walking up rabbit out of bushes??? also my permision is mainly smallish feilds or along or just in side woodland (its open woods if you knoe what i mean i.e not thick with trees/shrubs) their are a few drainage ditches as well which sometimes hold them. all i want it for is ferreting, bit of lamping and bit of day time walkin up. Sterry 0
permission isnt a problem, between me and my uncle we got well. in excess of 7000acres (not all with bunnies but most do) Quote Link to post
