What is classed as too powerful?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Knowing that the legal limit for an air rifle is 12ft-lb, where would you stand in the eyes of the law if an air rifle was 12 point somthing such as say 12.1 - 12.7?

What kind of things could be done to slightly reduce the power, such as pellet weights etc?

Thanks,

Danny.

Dont quote me on this but i thought that if the gun is capable of doing over 12ftlbs then you need an FAC, so even if you used different pellets to get the gun below 12ftlbs, the gun would still be capable of being ovewr the limit.

so other than that cut the spring down if its a springer or take it to the gunsmiths to lower the limit

as for the how far over it is, i think its not worth the risk as it is a firearms so they are bound to act upon it.

danny what would happen

you would be nicked and you would be in court

plus having ur gun taken from you

most guns pre anti tamper are easy enough to work on

so get a chrono just to be safe

it also depends on the police force in question.

some test with bisley magnums !!!!!!!!!

remember .....its your responsibility for your own gun. 12ft/lbs is 12 ft/lbs. 12.0000000000000001 is over yes?

cheers

Without an fac i think it is more a preference of taste.

Under 12ft/lb you'll end up with some nice home cooked rabbit stew, mmmmmmm :drink:

Over 12ft/lb you'll end up with some stodgy cold prison grub

You decide what you prefer. :hmm:

My air rifle hasnt been tampered with and is like new. I brought this topic up as a friend of mine was concerned that his air rifle (spring) could be just over the limit. I have read into the law etc however what I read just stated 12ft-lb, which is why I asked on here wether this was inclusive of 12.somthing or upto 12 full stop. Which thanks to helpfull replies I now know.

Thanks again for the productive replies,

Danny.
